™ SmartStruxure Lite Solution application notes AN016 – External Antenna Usage Get Control. Get Efficient. Get Value TM 2 AN016 – External Antenna Usage Introduction & Context This application note describes how to use the external antennae with SmartStruxure™ Lite products. Directly on the product: When a SmartStruxure™ Lite product is not installed in an enclosure/panel, above ceiling or inside an IT closet, the antennae can be mounted directly on the unit. The left side SMA antenna connector is for the ZigBee antenna (pink color-code). The right side SMA antenna connector is for the enOcean antenna (Green striped antenna for 315MHz; Gray striped antenna for 868MHz). Using the antenna extension cable: When a SmartStruxure™ Lite product is installed in an enclosure/panel, above ceiling or inside an IT closet, the antennae must be mounted outside such obstacles to ensure maximum range of the wireless signals (enOcean and ZigBee). In such cases, antenna extension cables should be used. Keep in mind that a longer cable will introduce more attenuation and reduce the wireless range. Tip 2 The extension cables sold by Schneider Electric include an extended threaded area and extra nut, allowing easy mounting of the antennae outside an enclosure or wall/ceiling.   Figure 3: Antenna end of the cable has extended threaded area and extra nut for easy mounting  Tip 3 When mounting the antennae, always place them so they will be clear of obstacles. For example, in the below picture, the antennae were mounted beneath the VAV enclosure so that communication with other wireless devices is not blocked. Alternatively, mounting the antennae on the side of the VAV would not be recommended. Figure 4: Always place the antennae to minimize obstruction to other wireless devices  Schneider Electric Tel. When the antennae are located directly on the controller, orient the antennae 90º with the base plate of the controller (as shown on figure 1) which acts as the reference ground plane. When using an extension cord, mount the antennae on a flat surface and orient them perpendicular to that surface (as shown on figure 4). It is also recommended that the mounting surface be flat and made of a conductive material. Schneider Electric Tel. Americas: North Andover, MA 1-800-225-0962 Tel.
