TELEPHONE ECU HARNESS EARPHONE HANGER CLIP Customer Information: The information in this installation instruction is intended for use only by skilled technicians who have the proper tools, equipment, and training to correctly and safely add equipment to your vehicle. These procedures should not be attempted by “do-it-yourselfers.” CONTROL UNIT 1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the frequencies for the preset buttons. 2. Remove the center console panel. A/T Model: M/T Model: • Loosen the locknut, and remove the shift knob by turning it counterclockwise. Pull up on the parking brake lever to prevent the vehicle from moving. • Move the shift lever into Neutral. Remove the locknut. • Gently pry up on the center console panel to release the eight clips. • Unplug the two seat heater connectors (if equipped), and remove the center console panel. • • SHIFT KNOB CLIPS (8) CENTER CONSOLE PANEL LOCKNUT 2031021S • Gently pry up on the center console panel to release the eight clips. • Unplug the two seat heater connectors (if equipped), and remove the center console panel. CLIPS (8) 2031040S SEAT HEATER CONNECTOR (if equipped) CENTER CONSOLE PANEL 4. Open the pocket lid. Pull the pocket out toward you to release the four clips, unplug the illumination bulb, and remove the pocket. Take care not to damage the illumination bulb. Remove the four self-tapping screws. 8. SELF-TAPPING SCREW (Reuse.) Remove the passenger’s instrument side trim: • Open the glove box. • Release the one clip on the right side by pushing it from the back of the passenger’s instrument side trim. • Wrap the end of the flat-tip screwdriver with a shop towel, then pull the passenger’s instrument side trim out toward you to release the other five clips, and remove the passenger’s instrument side trim. CLIP SELF-TAPPING SCREW (Reuse.) Push this clip from the back of the passenger’s instrument side trim. COIN POCKET HOLDER CLIPS (6) SHOP TOWEL VEHICLE CONNECTOR 2N03011S 6. Gently pull out the coin pocket holder to release the clip, unplug the vehicle connector, and remove the coin pocket holder. 7. Remove the rear console. SCREWDRIVER • Open the lid, and remove the rear console mat from inside the rear console. • Remove the two screws and the four selftapping screws, and unplug the connector and harness clip (if equipped). PASSENGER’S INSTRUMENT GLOVE BOX SIDE TRIM 9. SELF-TAPPING SCREWS (4) 2031071S Using a hook tool, pull out the clip closest to the steering column as shown. HOSE REAR CONSOLE MAT VEHICLE CONNECTOR LID HOOK TOOL REAR CONSOLE Pull out. CLIPS (3) 3123011B SCREWS (2) DRIVER’S INSTRUMENT SIDE TRIM 2N01030Y HARNESS CLIP (if equipped) 4 of 15 CONNECTOR (if equipped) 10. Pull out on the driver’s instrument side trim to release the other two clips, and unplug the vehicle connector and the hose. Remove the side trim. Remove the audio-HVAC display module: • Remove the three self-tapping screws and the two screws. • Pull out the audio-HVAC display module to release the six retaining clips and two tabs. • Unplug all of the connectors. • Unclip the four harness retaining clips. 20-PIN CONNECTOR Without Navigation System: RETAINING CLIPS (6) AUDIO-HVAC DISPLAY MODULE TAB 20-PIN CONNECTOR SELF-TAPPING SCREWS (3) SCREWS (2) © 2003 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. 3307010Y BII 24809 (0307) 5 of 15 13. Remove the dashboard lower cover (one selftapping screw and three retaining clips). Installing the Microphone Cord 15. Lower the steering wheel tilt lever. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers (two selftapping screws and eight clips). Gently push in the six retaining tabs, and carefully separate the two steering column covers. Pull down the three clips in the dashboard under cover, and remove the dashboard under cover by releasing the two tabs. Mark the upper steering cover using a pushpin. CENTER OF THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER MARK WITH A PUSHPIN 20. Using isopropyl alcohol, clean the area where the EPT seals will attach. Using scissors, cut one EPT seal as shown. Attach 1/8 of the EPT seal to the hole where the cable will attach. Retain the other half of the EPT seal. EPT SEAL Use1/8. DRILL 1/8 EPT SEAL DRILL BIT CENTER 2N21020B 17. While wearing eye protection, drill a 9 mm hole through the mark. First drill with a 3 mm bit, then finish with a 9 mm bit. Remove all burrs. 18. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, clean the bonding surface of the upper steering cover where the microphone will attach. 2N01120Y 21. Using isopropyl alcohol, clean the area where the EPT seals will attach. 22. Attach 1/8 of the EPT seal to the hole from inside of the upper steering column cover where the cable will attach. ADHESIVE BACKING MICROPHONE Clean with isopropyl alcohol. 1/8 OF EPT SEAL UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER RUBBER HALF OF EPT SEAL DRILL HOLE INSIDE OF THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER CENTER OF THE UPPER STEERING COLUMN COVER MICROPHONE CABLE HALF OF EPT SEAL EPT SEAL 2N01110Y 2N01130Y 19. Remove the adhesive backing from the microphone, and attach it to the surface of the upper steering column cover. Route the microphone cable through the hole. © 2003 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. 23. Using scissors, cut one EPT seal in half. Attach the cable to the inside of the upper steering column cover with the two halves of the EPT seal. BII 24809 (0307) 7 of 15 24. Position the upper steering column cover above the steering column, and route the microphone cable to the right of the column. 27. Reinstall the lower steering column cover. 28. Make sure the microphone cable doesn’t interfere with or get pinched by the cover and the steering wheel tilt mechanism. Route the microphone cable through the dashboard along the vehicle harness. 2N01190Y MICROPHONE CABLE VEHICLE HARNESS SCREW (reused) SELF-TAPPING SCREW (reused) 29. Route the end of the microphone cable as shown, then secure the cable to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. AUDIO-HVAC DISPLAY MODULE WIRE TIE WIRE TIE VEHICLE HARNESS 2N21040B 26. Secure the microphone cable to the vehicle harness with two wire ties. Adjust the length of the microphone cable so that approximately 130 mm of cable is behind the vehicle harness clip. MICROPHONE CABLE 32. Route the white/black wire of the telephone harness along the vehicle harness toward the vehicle 20-pin connector (for the radio tuner). 33. Plug the white/black wire terminal into the vehicle 20-pin connector, and gently pull the wire to make sure is seated into the connector. VEHICLE HARNESS CLIP (Measure the cord length from the vehicle harness clip.) TERMINAL LOCK Release and lock. Firmly push the terminal into the connector until it clicks into position. CONNECTOR LOCK (facing up) VEHICLE 20-PIN CONNECTOR WHITE/ BLACK WIRE BRACKET (Route the microphone cord outside the bracket.) 130 mm View from the wire harness 2N21050B Installing the Telephone Harness TELEPHONE HARNESS WHITE/BLACK WIRE TERMINAL POSITION 31. Remove the amplifier unit (two nuts), then unplug the vehicle amplifier connectors. WIRE TIE VEHICLE AMPLIFIER CONNECTOR VEHICLE AMPLIFIER CONNECTOR (2) NUTS (2) TELEPHONE HARNESS 3207010B 34. Secure the white/black wire of the telephone harness to the vehicle harness with two wire ties in the areas shown. AMPLIFIER UNIT 3206010B © 2003 American Honda Motor Co., Inc - All Rights Reserved. BII 24809 (0307) 9 of 15 35. Connect the vehicle amplifier 20-pin connector disconnected in step 31 to the 20-pin connector of the telephone harness. 36. Plug the telephone harness 20-pin connector and the vehicle amplifier connector into the amplifier unit. Installing The Control Unit 40. If equipped, move the vehicle harness out of the way. Using a felt-tip pen and a tape measure, measure and mark the floor carpet. Cut the marked lines with a utility knife. Make a slit on each marked line. VEHICLE AMPLIFIER CONNECTOR MARK (Make a slit for wire tie installation.) 10 mm 20-PIN CONNECTOR NUTS (2) (reused) UTILITY KNIFE 10 mm FLOOR CARPET 20-PIN CONNECTOR MOVE 3207050B AMPLIFIER UNIT 60 mm TELEPHONE HARNESS VEHICLE HARNESS (if equipped) 2N21090B 37. Reinstall the amplifier unit with the two nuts. 38. Route the remaining telephone harness toward the rear as shown. Make a loop in the microphone cable, and secure the microphone cable and the telephone harness to the vehicle harness with two wire ties in the areas shown. 41. Using diagonal cutters, cut the parking brake switch wire clip, and discard it. PARKING BRAKE SWITCH WIRE CLIP (Discard.) 39. Secure the telephone harness and the microphone cable with one wire tie near the vehicle harness clips. WIRE TIE LONG WIRE TIE WIRE TIE VEHICLE HARNESS MICROPHONE CABLE (Make a loop in the microphone cable in here.) FLOOR CARPET HOLE SLIT TELEPHONE HARNESS 42. Route the wire tie through the slit in the carpet, and secure the control unit with the wire tie as shown. Route the long wire tie through the carpet hole, and secure the control unit and parking brake switch wire with the long wire tie as shown. WIRE TIE WIRE TIE 43. Installing the Modular Jack and Control Unit 46. Measure and mark the rear console as shown. 44. Remove the rear console lid (two screws). TAPE MEASURE (Start measure at this edge.) SCREW (Reuse.) REAR CONSOLE LID REAR CONSOLE 2220062K MARK 45. BII 24809 (0307) 11 of 15 47. Mark the panel using a pushpin. While wearing eye protection, drill two 3 mm holes and one 20 mm hole using a 3 mm drill bit and 20 mm hole saw. Remove all burrs from the edges of the holes. MARK (pushpin hole) 51. Reinstall the bracket with the two screws. SCREWS (reused) MARK (pushpin hole) 3 mm DRILL BIT PUSHPINS MARK 20 mm HOLE SAW (pushpin hole) 2530020K BRACKET 48. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, clean the bonding surface inside the console box. Route the modular jack cable through the 20 mm hole, and install the grommet on the cable. 2304062K 52. Using scissors, cut one cushion tape in half. Using isopropyl alcohol, clean the area where the cushion tape will attach. Attach the modular cable to the panel and to the bracket with the two halves of the cushion tape in the areas shown. Wrap the cable with the remaining half of the EPT seal (cut in step 20) in the area shown. GROMMET Clean the panel with isopropyl alcohol. ADHESIVE BACKING CUSHION TAPE MODULAR JACK CONSOLE BOX PANEL HALF OF CUSHION TAPE BRACKET 20 mm HOLE 3 x 8 mm SELFTAPPING SCREWS (Do not overtighten.) MODULAR JACK EARPHONE CABLE JACK Clean the panel and bracket with isopropyl alcohol. 2530030K REMAINING HALF OF EPT SEAL 49. Remove the adhesive backing from the modular jack, and attach the modular jack, aligning the 3 mm holes with the holes in the modular tabs. Install and tighten the two 3 x 8 mm self-tapping screws. Do not overtighten the two self-tapping screws. 2N28010B 50. Plug the earphone jack into the modular jack. Reinstall the rear cover with the two self-tapping screws removed in step 45. Installing the Earphone SELF-TAPPING SCREW (reused) 56. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, clean the bonding surface of the rear console storage area. Remove the adhesive backing from the earphone hanger clip, and attach the earphone hanger clip to the rear console storage area. ADHESIVE BACKING FORWARD CENTER 30 mm 2305042K REAR COVER 54. Place the rear console above the control unit. Plug the modular cable connector into the control unit. EARPHONE HANGER CLIP Clean the area with isopropyl alcohol. 2530040K BRACKET 57. Place the earphone on the earphone hanger clip, and plug the earphone cable jack into the modular jack. MODULAR JACK CONTROL UNIT CUSHION TAPE 2N28021B EARPHONE EARPHONE HANGER CLIP Clean the bracket MODULAR with isopropyl CABLE CONNECTOR alcohol. 55. Using isopropyl alcohol on a shop towel, clean the bonding surfaces on the bracket. Attach one cushion tape to the edge of the bracket as shown. Lay the telephone cable on the tray as shown, and connect the telephone cable connector to the cellular phone. CELLULAR PHONE (Supplied by your customer.) TRAY TELEPHONE CABLE CONNECTOR MODULAR CABLE (Place it under the floor carpet.) 2N28030B 2606010K 61. Reconnect the telephone harness connector, the vehicle connectors, and the antenna lead. Reinstall the audio-HVAC-display-module. 59. Plug the telephone cable connector into the telephone modular connector. Hook the telephone cable to the tray hooks as shown, and lower the tray. Check that all wire harnesses are routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 63. Reinstall all removed parts. 64. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery. 65. Test the driver's window AUTO function. 56. Enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system (if equipped), then reset the customer’s radio station presets. 57.
