Accessory Application SPORT SUSPENSION 2007 TL BII 33631 INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS Issue Date AUG 2006 PARTS LIST NOTE: Right front damper assembly Left front damper assembly • Make sure the tires are inflated to the specified air pressure. • These instructions show the left damper assembly being installed; the same procedure applies to installing the right damper assembly. • These dampers are designed to be used exclusively with this model and should not be used with other models. • The dampers for the left and right sides are different. Be sure to note the "L" and "R" markings on the dampers for the proper installation. • Observe the procedure and safety notes and precautions described in the applicable Service Manual. Remove the right side engine compartment cover (gently pull up to release the three pins and one clip). Release the front clip from the left rear engine compartment cover, gently pull up to release the one clip along the strut tower bar, and the one clip attached to the right rear engine compartment cover. Lift up to remove the pin, and remove the left rear engine compartment cover. Removing the Front Damper 4. With the vehicle on a rack, remove all four wheels. 5. Remove the strut tower bar (three nuts on each side, and remove the two bracket bolts). NUTS (3) STRUT TOWER BAR FRONT CLIP LEFT REAR ENGINE COVER NUTS (3) PIN CLIP STRUT TOWER BAR 3. CLIP Release the two front clips from the right rear engine compartment cover, and gently pull up to release the three clips along the strut tower bar. Lift up to remove the pin, and remove the right rear engine compartment cover. 6. Remove the damper fork through bolt, and remove the damper fork pinch bolt. Remove the damper fork assembly. Remove the flange nuts from the top of the damper, and remove the damper assembly. 9. FLANGE NUT Install the damper fork over the driveshaft, and onto the lower arm. Install the damper in the damper fork so the aligning tab is aligned with the slot in the damper fork. DAMPER DAMPER ALIGNING TAB DAMPER FORK DAMPER FORK PINCH BOLT 43 N·m (32 lb-ft) DAMPER FORK FLANGE NUT 64 N·m (47 lb-ft) Installing the New Front Damper 8. Install the damper assembly with the aligning tab facing the inside of the vehicle. Loosely install the flange nuts. FLANGE NUT 50 N·m (37 lb-ft) DAMPER FORK THROUGH BOLT 10. Loosely install the damper fork pinch bolt to the damper fork. 11. Install the damper fork through bolt with nut, but do not tighten the bolt yet. 12. Place a floor jack under the lower arm, and load the suspension with the weight of the vehicle. Torque the flange nuts on the top of the damper to 50 N·m (37 lb-ft). 13. Torque the damper fork pinch bolt to 43 N·m (32 lb-ft) and torque the damper fork flange nut to 64 N·m (47 lb-ft). 14. Repeat steps 6 through 13 to install the damper assembly on the other side of the vehicle. DAMPER ALIGNING TAB © 2006 American Honda Motor Co., Inc. - All Rights Reserved. BII 33631 (0608) 3 of 7 15. With the vehicle on the ground, reinstall the strut tower bar. Torque the nuts that secure the strut tower bar to 22 N·m (16 lb-ft). Reinstall the two bracket bolts Removing the Rear Damper 17. Remove the rear seat cushion (one bolt, and pull the seat hook knobs to release the seat cushion). NUTS (3) 22 N·m (16 lb-ft) CENTER SEAT BELT (Remove the belt form the center belt guide.) STRUT TOWER BAR REAR SEAT-BACK LOWER BOLT (Remove.) NUTS (3) 22 N·m (16 lb-ft) UPPER BOLT (Loosen.) SEAT CUSHION BOLT LOWER BOLT (Remove.) BRACKET BOLT SEAT CUSHION 16. Reinstall the engine compartment covers in the reverse order of removal. SEAT HOOK KNOB 18. Remove the two lower seat-back bolts, and loosen the upper bolts. Remove the rear seat-back. 19. Pull the left C-pillar cap out until it stops, and remove the left rear door opening trim around the C-pillar trim. Remove the left C-pillar trim (five clips). Remove the right C-pillar trim the same way. C-PILLAR CAP (Pull out.) In the trunk area, lift the rear shelf to release the eight clips, then pull the rear shelf towards the front of the vehicle. 22. Remove the flange nut from the stabilizer link. Hold the stabilizer link with a hex wrench when removing the nut. Disconnect the stabilizer link from the bracket. CLIP STABILIZER LINK REAR SHELF FLANGE BOLT STABILIZER LINK BRACKET FLANGE NUT 21. Remove the two flange nuts from the top of the rear damper. HEX WRENCH KNUCKLE DAMPER FLANGE NUT 23. Remove the flange bolt from the knuckle. 24. Lower the rear suspension, and remove the damper assembly. Installing the New Rear Damper NOTE: The rear dampers are marked "L" for the left side, and "R" for the right side. DAMPER 25. Lower the rear suspension, and install the damper assembly. Loosely install the damper flange nuts to the top of the damper. Connect the stabilizer link to the bracket, and loosely install the flange nut. FLANGE BOLT 30. Reinstall the rear shelf, both C-pillar trims, the rear seat-back, and the rear seat cushion. 31. Reinstall the wheels and torque the wheel nuts to 108 N·m (80 lb-ft.). 32. Check the wheel alignment (toe) and adjust as necessary. STABILIZER LINK Front FLANGE NUT HEX WRENCH Rear Camber Neg 0° 30' ± 30' Neg -1° 00' ± 30' Caster 3° 17' ± 45° N/A Toe-in 0 mm ± 2 mm 2 mm ± 2 mm Headlight Aiming Adjustment 33. Adjust the headlight aiming as described in the Service Manual. Also adjust the fog light aiming if the vehicle you are working on is equipped with fog lights. Installing the A-Spec Emblem 27. Place a floor jack under the rear suspension to load it with the vehicle's weight. FLANGE BOLT FLANGE NUT 34. Using the lower right corner of the trunk lid as a guide, temporareily position the A-spec emblem on the trunk lid 32.5 mm (1 ¼ inches) from the bottom, and 32.5 mm (1 ¼ inches) from the side. 35. Using a shop towel dampened with isopropyl alcohol, clean the body surface where the exterior emblem will attach. 32.5 MM HEX WRENCH A - S PEC 32.5 mm TRUNK LID EDGE FLOOR JACK 28. Torque the two flange nuts on the top of the damper to 50 N·m (37 lb-ft), torque the knuckle flange bolt to 59 N·m (43 lb-ft), and torque the stabilizer upper flange nut to 39 N·m (29 lb-ft). Be sure to hold the stablizer link with a hex wrench when tightening the stabilizer link nut. 29. Repeat steps 21 through 28 to install the damper assembly on the other side. 6 of 7 36. Remove the adhesive backing from the emblem, and position the emblem on the trunk lid, 32.5 mm (1 1/4 in) from the bottom, and 32.5 mm (1 1/4 in) from the right edge of the trunk lid. 37 Firmly press the emblem into position and hold it for 30 seconds. 38.
