System overview Up to 10 cordless tools can be controlled using one TMEB-COM installation. The number of tools which can be controlled from TMEB-200, depends on installed software. Each node in the network requires an IP address. The IP settings and WLAN settings in the tools are programmed via the infrared interface. Programming and setup are described in the TMEB-200 / TMEB-COM programming manual.

Installation Different installations are required depending on the specific application and location of use. The following chapters describe the basic procedure.
3.1
General notes The 17BPW... and 47BAW... series tools operate in the license-free 2.4 GHz ISM band. Use of this band is permitted in most countries. The tools operate in what is known as World Mode, meaning that channels 1 to 11 (2.412 – 2.462 GHz) are used according to IEEE 802.11b. Thus it may be operated in most European countries, the USA and Canada.
CAUTION! • •
It is mandatory that national, state and local codes and standards be followed. Before exchanging components or supplementary equipment, isolate the power supply.
The operating range of the wireless transmission can vary considerably depending on the installation location of the access point. Observe the following points during installation:
3.2
1.
Set up the access point as close to the centre of the tools used as possible. Generally speaking, the following applies: the higher you position the access point, the better the reception will be.
2.
You will have the best range if there is a clear line of sight between the access point and tool. If possible, no walls or ceilings should be in between. If this is unavoidable, the signal should cross the wall or ceiling at as steep an angle as possible. Position the access point so that the signal can go directly through a wall or ceiling.
3.
Maintain a minimum clearance of 3 – 6 m (9’ 10.11” – 19’ 8.22”) from devices that generate high-frequency interference, such as microwaves.
WLAN network conforming to IEEE 802.11b/g standard Tools of the 17BPW… and 47BAW… series can communicate with a wireless network according to the IEEE 802.11b standard. The tools can be integrated into an existing wireless network or a local network with an access point can be set up. The IP settings and WLAN settings in the tool must be programmed via the infrared interface. Programming and setup are described in the TMEB-200 / TMEB-COM programming manual.

3.2.1
Local network without switch For small installations with no more than one TMEB-200 / TMEB-COM installation, the access point can be connected directly to the TMEB or PC. If the TMEB-200 is used, the access point must be set up using an additional PC/notebook. If a PC with TMEB-COM is used, the access point can also be set up using this PC. When setting up the access point, please use the respective user manual. The basic setup for the DWL-3200AP Access Point (order no. 961323) is described in the Appendix. Programming the communication with the tools is described in the programming manual of the TMEB-200 / TMEB-COM. When the DWL-3200AP Access Point (order no. 961323) is used, a standard or crossover Ethernet cable can be used for the connection. The network settings of the access point and TMEB-200 / TMEB-COM can be selected as desired. However, it is necessary for the IP address and subnet mask of the PC or notebook to be in the same range as those of the access point.

Cell planning for access point Data transmission according to the IEEE 802.11b standard uses 22 MHz. Therefore, only the 3 independent channels 1, 6 and 11 are available. To minimize interference between different radio cells that share the same radio channel, it is necessary to physically separate them. Note that for multistory buildings, it is necessary to consider both higher and lower floors. The following overview shows the basic channel assignment. Area of use of the tools Channel 11
Channel 1
Channel 6
Idealized radio cells
The physical circumference of a radio cell depends primarily on the access point used, the antennas and the type of construction in the surrounding area. The limit of a radio cell is reached when the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) falls below 15 dB. If the ratio falls below this value, a new radio cell should be started. The SNR value of the current position can be displayed on the tool in the Radio settings menu. The typical circumference of a radio cell in a building is up to 50 m (164’ 0.5”). For the tool to be able to connect to different access points automatically, the SSID and encryption must be configured identically at the corresponding access points. Note If wide-area coverage with controlled emission from multiple access points is required, corresponding planning and evaluation must be carried out for the specific case.

Change the IP address and the subnet mask in the network settings of the PC or notebook. Without network administration, it is necessary for the IP address and subnet mask of the PC/ notebook to be in the same range as those of the access point. Enter the same subnet mask for both IP addresses and use the same first three numbers for the IP addresses on both the controller and base station. E.g.:IP address PC/notebook: 192.168.0.xxx IP address access point: 192.168.0.xxx Subnet mask: 255.255.255.0 Reset the access point to the default settings. To do so, press the button on the back of the access point for at least 10 seconds. The default IP address is 192.168.0.50. The default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.

Troubleshooting
Problem
Possible cause
Action
WLAN data communication between controller and tool No WLAN communication between controller and tool.
WLAN communication partly interrupted.
16
IP address of tool is not entered correctly on the controller.
¾
Check in the Communication/Tool screen of the controller that the IP address of the tool is entered in the RF Tool IP field. The IP address of the tool is displayed on the tool in the WLAN RF settings submenu. Note: If the settings are changed, it is necessary to press Accept in order to apply the settings.
Tool is not configured with correct WLAN parameter values.
¾
Configure the WLAN settings of the tool in the Communication/Tool screen of the controller via infrared communication.
WLAN network settings of the controller and the access point differ.
¾
In the Communication/Tool screen of the controller, check that the settings of the access point match the wireless network settings (Network name, Security, Network key).
MAC address filter of the access point is active.
¾
Add the MAC address of the tool to the address list of the access point. The MAC address of the tool is displayed on the corresponding label above the battery, and in the WLAN RF settings submenu.
A firewall blocks port 4001.
¾
Reconfigure the firewall so that the specific IP/ MAC address of the tool can use port 4001.
RF channel of the access point is set to 12 or 13.
¾
Change the channel setting of the access point to a channel between 1 and 11.
Tool is already assigned to a different controller.
¾
Check whether any other controller has already established a connection to this tool. That means another controller use same IP address.
Distance between access point and tool is too great.
¾
Check the signal strength in the WLAN RF settings submenu of the tool. For stable communication, the first value (N) should be greater than 15. If the value is less than 15, move the access point closer to the tool.
Tool is also assigned to a different controller.
¾
Check whether this tool (IP address) is assigned to any other controller. If so, delete the assignment on the other controller. A tool can only be assigned to one controller.
Too much traffic on the wireless network.
¾
Reduce traffic on the wireless network. Deactivate torque plot data transmission.

Setting up the DWL-3200AP Access Point A detailed description of the access point is included in the scope of delivery and online help of the access point. As an additional reference, the basic operating steps are described here.
6.1.1
Accessing the access point via web browser The access point is programmed and set up using a web browser such as Internet Explorer. This requires a PC or notebook. As an alternative to access via web browser, the D-Link AirPremier AP Manager program on the provided CD can be used. 1.
Connect the access point to the PC or notebook using an Ethernet cable (standard or crossover). Alternatively, you can use an Ethernet switch to which all devices are connected.
2.
Launch the web browser. In the Internet Options under Connections, disable the proxy server in the LAN settings or, as an exception, enter the IP address of the access point. If the access point's IP address is unknown, it must be reset to the default settings. To do so, press the button on the back of the access point for at least 10 seconds. The default IP address is 192.168.0.50. The default subnet mask is 255.255.255.0.
3.
In the address bar of the web browser, enter http:// and the IP address of the access point and press . It is necessary for the IP address and subnet mask of the PC or notebook to be in the same range as those of the access point. The PC/notebook must then have an IP address in the range 192.168.0.xxx. If necessary, change the IP address and subnet mask in the network settings of the PC or notebook.
