DUTIES OF THE TELEMATIC CENTRE MANAGER1 1 The Telematic Centre Manager is responsible for the general maintenance of the Telematic Centre. 2 The Telematic Centre Manager or his or her representative shall be at the Telematic Centre and log in on the system at least 30 (thirty) minutes prior to the broadcast and thereafter at the commencement of each broadcast session that may follow later on that day. 3 The Telematic Centre Manager shall test all relevant equipment prior to broadcasting and will take the following steps before contacting the studio manager for assistance: 3.1 If there is no picture and sound, check the following: a) if the equipment (decoder & data projector) is switched on; b) if all the cables are connected; c) if the projector is connected to the right input (AV). If no picture and sound are received after (a), (b) & (c) are checked, proceed to switch off the decoder for at least 40 seconds and then on again. Green light On/Off Switch Figure 1: Front of Decoder 3.2 If the following message appears on the screen No signal, check the following: a) if the decoder is switched on (green light indicator); b) if the cable from the decoder to the TV or projector is connected. If (a) & (b) are checked, but the message No signal still appears: Switch off the decoder for at least 40 seconds and then on again (Signal loss could occur during heavy rain). 3.3 If there is a frozen picture, switch off the decoder for at least 40 seconds and then on again. 1 Staff member responsible for the management of the Telematic classroom 1 LNB/Antenna socket Power socket SCART Socket Figure 2: Back of Decoder without connections The Scart connector plugs into the Scart socket on the decoder. Avoid removing the Scart connector from the decoder. Please note that the switch on the Scart connector must always be switched to OUTPUT. The red and white audio cables connect to the corresponding coloured sockets, while the video cable to the data projector connects to the yellow socket. White and red connectors for audio output to amplifier Figure 3: Scart connector 2 Yellow connector for Video output to data projector Cable from antenna Audio out Audio in from decoder Video out Scart connector Connectors for speakers Figure 4: Back of Decoder and amplifier with connections 3.4 If there is no sound or poor sound, check the following: a) if the volume is turned up at the decoder (use remote control) and amplifier (also TV if used); b) if all the cables are correctly connected. 4 The Telematic Centre Manager shall immediately report faulty equipment or any logistical, technical or administrative problems related to satellite broadcasts directly to the designated employee of the Vodacom or the studio manager in Stellenbosch. 5 The Telematic Centre Manager and students shall not attempt to connect or disconnect any other /additional apparatus to the system that is not part of the Telematic Centre equipment. 6 The Telematic Centre Manager shall not switch off the decoder between broadcasts. 7 The Telematic Centre Manager shall inform the learners that the telematic sessions are interactive and that they may use computers or cell phones to login and to ask for help or to make a comment during the sessions (detail of the procedures will be provided during the first broadcast).
