Uninstall: Assists in removing all installed MFP server software programs. About Version: Displays the version of each utility included in the MFP server software programs. Installing MFP Drivers/Utilities Once the installation is completed, the MFP Manager screen will display. MFP Manager will automatically find any MFP servers and the connected MFPs in the network and present them in the “MFP Server List” field. NOTE: Before you start to install a selection from the MFP server list, check your computer’s MFP installation status: • If you’ve yet to install the MFP drivers/utilities, refer to the next section (Initial Installation of...). • If you’ve already installed the MFP drivers/utilities, skip the next section and go to the subsequent section (Previous Installation of...) Initial Installation of the MFP Drivers/Utilities Before the installation, read the manual of the multi-function printer. Some MFPs require that you install the drivers/utilities before connecting to your computer; some require that you connect the MFP to your computer during the installation. The image below (from HP’s All-InOne Series manual) is an example of a screen displayed during the installation of an MFP. To connect a multi-function printer to your computer through the MFP server (just as you’ve directly connected the MFP to your computer using a USB cable), follow the steps below. 10 1. Select the multi-function printer you want to install from the MFP server list and click “Connect.” 2. Windows will detect the new hardware and prompt you to install the MFP drivers. When the system finishes its series of prompts, the drivers are all installed. If the system can’t find the MFP driver, insert the installation CD of the MFP and go to the main menu to find drivers on the CD. Note: If the MFP you have connected is a composite device, the system will install the driver for a composite device. If/when the warning screen displays, click “Continue Anyway.” When the system finishes its series of prompts, the drivers are all installed. If the system can’t find the MFP driver, insert the MFP’s installation CD and go to the main menu to find drivers on the CD. 3. Once the MFP installation is complete, you’ll see the MFP has been added to the Printers and Faxes window. 11 Previous Installation of MFP Drivers/Utilities To bundle with MFP drivers/utilities already installed on the MFP Server, follow the steps below. 1. 3. Once the MFP installation is complete, you’ll see that a copy of the MFP has been added to the Printers and Faxes window. NOTE: The new copy of the MFP is bundled to the MFP server. Use the MFP to share print, scan, card reader and fax functions through the network. 12 Using the Multi-Function Printer After you’ve followed the Install wizard through to the finish of the MFP installation, the MFP is now connected to your computer and you can start sharing print, scan, card reader or fax functions provided by the MFP. NOTE: Any time you finish using the MFP, click “Disconnect” to release it; otherwise, others can’t use it. NOTE: It’s recommended that you enable Idle Timeout. The MFP server will auto-release your connection to the MFP after a designated idle time so the MFP won’t be occupied too long and others can use it more frequently. Refer to the user manual for more information. Share Print The MFP will be added to the “Printers and Faxes” window after it’s installed. Once you’ve connected to the MFP by clicking “Connect” in MFP Manager, the MFP server will auto-create the connection between the MFP and your computer. You can then print documents using the normal procedure. NOTE: If you’ve sent a printing job to the MFP while the it’s being connected to by another user, you may be prompted that the device is not found or the document has failed to print. Resend the printing job when the MFP is idle or isn’t being connected to. 13 Share Scan Most MFPs feature a scan utility for pictures or documents. Below are examples of HP 1600 and Windows XP scanning utilities. Share Card Reader If the MFP supports a card reader function, you can read the files from the plugged-in card reader through the MFP server. 14 Fax a File If the MFP supports a fax function, you can fax files from your computer. As an example, the steps and screens below demonstrate faxing through an HP Officejet 5600 Series MFP. 1. After the MFP is installed, the fax device will be added to Printers and Faxes. Click “Connect” in MFP Manager to connect to the MFP so you can fax a file through the MFP server to the fax device. 2. In Microsoft Office (or another similar program), select “Print” from the File menu. 3. On the Print screen, select the fax device and then click “Print.” 4. On the Send Fax screen, configure the file settings and enter the fax number, then click “Send Fax.” 15 INTELLINET NETWORK SOLUTIONS™ offers a complete line of active and passive networking products.
