1078963 – ROK 400W HALOGEN PIR FLOODLIGHT INSTALLATION INSTRUCTIONS GENERAL Please read these instructions prior to installation and retain them for future reference. If in doubt, we recommend that you consult a qualified electrician. Our products must not be modified. If any modification is made it will invalidate the warranty and may render the product unsafe. SAFETY Before commencing installation or maintenance, the electricity supply must be isolated. We recommend that the circuit fuse is withdrawn to prevent accidental switching on whilst work is in progress. Do not install this product whilst it is raining, or in damp conditions. This product contains glass parts. Care must be taken when fitting or handling these parts to prevent injury or damage. The glass is a Safety Shield and must be replaced if cracked or broken, this symbol will be labelled on the fitting. Replace cracked or broken glass IMPORTANT NOTES ON CABLING & FUSING Light fittings should be connected to a 5-amp circuit and for outside installation should be protected by an RCD. The wiring spur to an outside light fitting must be fused with a 3-amp fuse. This product is only suitable for connection to 220 / 240V, 50 Hz supply and in accordance with current I.E.E. Wiring Regulations and any applicable Building Regulations (Part P). Please note particularly any cable type usually double insulated 2 or 3-core cable of type H05RN-F 1.0mm2 (not supplied) and installation requirements including underground cable runs. INSTALATION LOCATION • For best results, fix the Floodlight on a solid surface, 1.8 – 2.5 metres above the ground. (8MTR COVERAGE) • Always mount more than 1 metre from any surface which will be illuminated and may overheat if closer. 1.0 m This symbol will be on the fitting: • • • • • • Also avoid reflective surfaces or behind glass at any distance, these will cause the spotlight to switch on and off repeatedly. Avoid aiming the motion sensor at pools, heating vents or objects that may change temperature rapidly. Try to avoid pointing the unit at trees or shrubs or where the motion of pets may be detected. Prior to mounting, keep in mind that the motion sensor is most sensitive to the motion, which is across the detection field and less sensitive to the motion, which moves directly towards the detector. The sensor angle may be lowered to avoid triggering by pedestrians on, say, a nearby pavement. The lamp should be horizontal, any appreciable deviation will result in shortened lamp life and possible overheating of the fitting. ASSEMBLY & WIRING INSTRUCTIONS Ensure supply has been switched off and isolated at the fuse box. 1. Remove the adjustable bracket by unscrewing the hexagonal bolts at each end. 2. After choosing the desired location for the fitting, use the bracket as a template to mark the position of the drill holes. Drill with a suitable drill bit and plug the mounting holes with suitable wall plugs. Take care not to foul any mains cables or pipes below the surface while drilling, fix the bracket to the wall. 3. Fit the Floodlight back onto the bracket and run the cable to the location. Remove the cover of the junction box, retaining screws. Loosen the cable gland and feed the cable in under the anchor strap. 4. Connect the supply cable to the terminal block, into the marked positions. Ensure that Live (Brown) is opposite Live, Neutral (Blue) is opposite Neutral and Earth (Yellow & Green) is opposite Earth (see diagram). This fitting must be Earthed! Ensure all incoming Earth wires are secured in the Earth terminal block and the screw is tight. Ensure there are no strands of wire protruding from the terminal blocks and the wire insulation is overlapped by the plastic body of the terminal block. 5. Re-fit the cable anchorage strap and tighten so the cable is secure. Tighten the cable gland nut to compress the seal and to ensure it is water-tight. Re-fit the cover of the junction box tightening the screws sufficiently to ensure a watertight seal. BULB INSTALLATION & REPLACEMENT 1. Unscrew the lens frame retaining screw at the top of the floodlight and hinge the frame forwards and down. 2. Insert bulb: 400 watt R7s Linear Halogen Bulb 118mm (supplied). Hold the bulb by clean soft dry cloth, do not touch the bulb glass with bare fingers as this will shorten bulb life. It may be cleaned with a soft cloth moistened with alcohol. 3. Always ensure the product is switched off and that the unit is cool before bulb replacement. 4. To replace with new bulb, just remove the old bulb by pushing to the left or right slightly, then pullout. 5. Close the lens frame ensuring the seal is in place and tighten the retaining screw. LIGHT SETTINGS The Flood Light is fitted with three setting dials (SENS – SENSITIVITY; TIME; LUX – LIGHT LEVEL). These adjust the performance and use of the fitting: TESTING AND SETTING YOUR FLOODLIGHT Turn the TIME dial to Minimum (fully anticlockwise) and the SENS - SENSITIVITY dial to maximum (fully clockwise). Also turn the LUX - LIGHT LEVEL to maximum (fully clockwise) so the movement detector will respond even in daylight. Adjust the direction and angle of your Floodlight so movement is detected at the correct place, the light should turn on for a few seconds allowing frequent adjustments without having to wait for the light to re-set. LIGHT LEVEL This is a ‘dusk till dawn’ mode. The sensor will allow the movement detector to turn the light on when it gets dark enough and to inhibit it in daylight. SENSITIVITY The range at which movement is detected may be adjusted by this control using the Testing settings on TIME and LIGHT LEVEL. The PIR will activate the light once movement is detected at the desired range. TIME This dial controls how long the light will remain on once activated. It will operate from 5 Seconds to 6 Minutes, approximately. Turning the dial fully clockwise will set the unit to it longest time setting and fully anti-clockwise to it’s shortest setting. RANGE ADJUSTMENT The PIR sensor is situated on a moveable joint. The sensor range can be adjusted by moving the PIR both vertically and horizontally. TROUBLE SHOOTING Flicker: Floodlight fitted in a restricted area. PIR not working: Sensitivity too low. Floodlight not functioning: Relocate Floodlight i.e stray light causing the unit to flicker. Increase sensitivity Check bulb / wiring / fuse INITIALISATION Please note that when first connected there may be an initialisation time when the light will be on. Turn all the dials fully clockwise when the light will stay on for 20 minutes to 1 hour. Do not adjust the dials or walk in the detection zone during this period. After this initialisation the light will go off, then adjust as required at dusk see section: TESTING AND SETTING YOUR FLOODLIGHT. SKU No. 1078963
