10M AUTO REWIND HOSE REEL – Professional Series INSTRUCTION MANUAL WARNING: DO NOT EXTEND YOUR REEL PAST 10 METRES. THIS ACTION VOIDS THE WARRANTY AND CAUSES IRREPAIRABLE DAMAGE. See “Introduction” on how to manage this. 1. BEFORE USE • • • Please read these instructions carefully Do not attempt to open the cover. Only specialized personnel who have been trained in hose reel repairs should attempt to remove the outer casing. This hose is not suitable to be used as a drinking water hose. 2. INTRODUCTION This high quality hose reel is manufactured from a range of quality materials, including a powerful spring mechanism that is designed to retract the hose automatically. To ensure the longevity and reliable operation of your reel, please review the following: • Do not extend your hose reel beyond the 10m limit. • Always walk the hose reel in during retracting and do not allow the hose to retract at high speed unassisted. Damage to the hose reel due to the above will not be covered by warranty. The length of the hose contained in the reel is 10m. One of the few things that can cause serious damage to the hose reel is if the hose is over-extended - past 10 metres. We recommend that you mark the hose prominently (with some bright coloured electrical tape for example) between 9 and 10m, but more importantly, identify the garden, shrub or tree that is at the 10 metre limit. You can then extend the reel with confidence to this point. Damage caused by over extension of the hose is not covered by the warranty. The reel is equipped with a retracting mechanism that locks the hose in place at a desired length for your watering needs, and then layers the hose back on to the hose reel automatically when you are finished. Under no circumstances should you let go of the hose. Always hold it firmly and walk back to the reel until it is fully retracted. Walking the hose in prevents the hose retracting at a high speed reducing the risk of causing injury to any person standing nearby, and preventing damage to the hose and hose reel itself. Damage caused to the hose reel due to letting go of the hose and allowing it to retract at high speed is not covered by the warranty. 1 Fig.1 and Fig.2 show a picture of the unit and the recommended mounting position respectively. Fig.2 Fig.1 Fig.3 3. INSTALLATION The hose reel needs to be secured to a wall or post (using the mounting bracket). . 1 When securing the hose reel to a wall or a post, mount it within reaching distance of the tap (for the short hose – reel to tap connection), and ensure that there is sufficient room to allow the reel to pivot 180°. The most common orientation favored in securing the hose reel to a wall or post is to mount the reel vertically as shown in Fig.2. NOTE: Ensure that the mounting bracket is secured flat against the wall or post during installation. If the hose reel needs to be mounted further from the tap, an extra length of hose can be added using a Hoselink Hose Joiner Set (Product Code: 2410). 2. It is recommended that the bracket be secured to the wall 0.8m above the ground (Fig. 2) 3. Remove the top and bottom covers of the bracket prior to mounting by undoing the 4 screws. 4. The mounting bracket has 4 holes by which to secure it to the wall or post, and the necessary masonry bolts are enclosed together with four ring washers (Fig.4). We recommend using the bracket as a template to mark the holes prior to drilling. Use a spirit level to ensure the holes are vertically aligned. (Fig.3, unit: mm) 5. The masonry bolts (provided) should be used to mount the bracket, ensuring that each bolt is used in conjunction with the spring washer and padding (see Fig.4) 6. When the bracket is secured firmly to the wall or post, the reel should be mounted on the bracket in order of the instructions illustrated in Fig.5. Replace and secure the bottom cover to the bracket with 2 of the screws (arrow①), carefully mount the reel on to the bracket (arrow②), and then replace and secure the top cover to the bracket with the 2 remaining 2 screws (arrow③). Fig 4 Fig.4 Fig.5 4. USING THE HOSE REEL Extend the hose to the desired length - the hose will lock automatically as soon as you stop pulling. To disable the lock simply extend the hose further and the lock will be released automatically. Note: when the lock is released the hose reel will be in ‘retract’ mode and will retract the entire length of hose without locking again. To lock the hose again, simply halt retraction and then extend the hose to the new desired length – again the lock will be activated automatically when you stop pulling. Warning • Under no circumstances should you let go of the hose. Always hold it firmly and walk back to the reel until it is fully retracted. • When the hose is extended to such a length that the warning indicator can be seen (approx 1 meter from the end of the hose), do not pull the hose with any excessive force as this can damage the internal connection to the reel. • Do not try to force the direction of which the hose is retracting. Instead, allow the self layering mechanism to feed the hose slowly on to the reel automatically. 5. CARE AND MAINTENANCE This hose reel contains a high-quality hose that has been rigorously pressure tested by Hoselink. In order to keep it in optimum shape we recommend you follow these guidelines: 1. After use turn off the tap and release the water pressure prior to retracting the hose. 2. Do not leave the hose reel exposed to very high or very low temperatures for prolonged periods of time. High temperatures can damage the hose causing it to split, and low temperatures can cause the hose to lose flexibility making it difficult to retract. 3 3. Do not use any chemicals or substances with this hose such as acetone, white spirits, lactic acid etc. Use of these chemicals will invalidate the warranty. 4. Do not submerge the reel into water to clean it. Keep the hose clean by wiping with a damp cloth when fully extended. 5. Mount the reel in a sheltered and shaded location in order to prolong the life expectancy and to ensure a maximum period of trouble-free service. 6. When not in use for extended periods it is best to store the hose reel in a garage or shed. 6. TROUBLESHOOTING The most common malfunction is that the hose cannot be retracted automatically after fully extending the hose. This may happen if the locking mechanism gets stuck in the locking state or if the hose has been extended beyond the warning mark. There are two ways to solve this: 1. Hold the hose at the yellow warning mark, and with one hand on top of the reel, pull the hose with a short, sharp jerking motion until the hose retracts. 2. Lay the hose reel with its right side down, and then pull on the hose until it retracts. (Fig. 6) Fig. 6 7. SPECIFICATIONS Model Hose leng th 10M (33.3 FT) Hose material P VC P ressure Hose I.D.
