READ ALL INSTRUCTIONS BEFORE USING YOUR SLOW COOKER. To avoid any risk of electrical shock, do not immerse the cord or base into water or other liquids. Close supervision is necessary when using this appliance near children or the infirm. The use of accessory attachments not recommended or sold by the appliance manufacturer may cause injuries. Unplug the unit when you are finished using it, before cleaning, or before putting on or taking off parts. Do not let the power cord hang over the edge of a table or counter. Do not let it touch any hot surfaces. The glass lid and ceramic pot are fragile. Handle them with care. Do not let the cord to this device hang down where a child can reach it. Do not operate this appliance if the cord or plug is damaged or if it malfunctions. If there is any damage of any sort, send the unit to the nearest authorized service center for examination, repair or adjustment. (ONLY technicians should open up the unit.) Do not switch on the cooker if the ceramic pot is empty. Do not power on this device if it is upside down or lying on its side. This appliance is for household use only. Do not use outdoors or for commercial purposes. Never leave your slow cooker plugged into a power socket when it is not in use. Never touch the outer enclosure of the slow cooker while it is operating or before it cools. Use the handles or knobs. Do not touch hot surfaces. Use oven gloves or a cloth when removing the lid or handling hot containers. Only use this appliance for its intended use. Allow the lid and ceramic pot to cool before immersing in water. Never cook directly in the base unit. Use the ceramic pot. Extreme caution must be used when moving this appliance when it contains hot food, or other hot liquids. Do not use the ceramic pot or the glass lid if they are cracked or chipped.

A Quick Look at Your Device
Using the Control Knob to Set Temperature The control knob on the slow cooker offers low, high and warm temperature settings for cooking. These settings allow you to adapt the cooking time to your convenience. The WARM setting is the standard setting for slow cooking, giving you an average of 6-8 hours cooking time. If you wish to extend the cooking period, you can use the LOW setting and if you wish to shorten the cooking period you can use the HIGH setting.

Remove all labels and tags from your slow cooker. Wash the ceramic pot and the glass lid in hot, soapy water. Use a sponge or a dish cloth to rinse thoroughly and dry.
IMPORTANT NOTES: -To avoid any risk of electrical shock, do not immerse the cord or base into water or other liquids. -During initial use you may notice a slight odor due to the burning off of manufacturing residues. This is completely normal and will disappear after a few uses.

Place the base on a dry, level, heat resistant surface. Do not use it on the floor or close to any ledges where it can fall. Place your ingredients into the ceramic pot, and then place the ceramic pot into the base. Cover with the glass lid. If you need to pre-cook or brown foods prior to slow cooking, you must do this in a pan. Do not try to brown or pre-cook food in the slow cooker. With the control knob set to the OFF position, plug the unit into a standard household power outlet. Set the heat control to LOW, HIGH or WARM and cook for the recommended time given in your recipe. When you are finished cooking, set the heat control switch to the OFF position, and unplug the power cable from the wall outlet. Remove the ceramic pot using oven gloves.
CAUTION: BE CAREFUL NOT TO TOUCH THE BASE IMMEDIATELY AFTER COOKING AS IT WILL REMAIN HOT.
About Slow Cooking Slow cooking has always been the best way to prepare a nutritious hot meal with minimum preparation while maximizing free time away from the kitchen. Traditionally slow cooking has centered on soups and casseroles but with the included ceramic pot you can also produce most modern family meals and dinner party dishes. This pot is convenient to use, and also looks good enough to take straight to the table for serving. (Always place the pot on a heat proof mat or surface). This method of cooking is ideal for preparing tougher cuts of meat, giving them the long, gentle simmering that ensures that they become tender and full of flavor.
IMPORTANT Your slow cooker works by building up heat and maintaining an even temperature. To get the best cooking results, do not remove the lid while cooking. This will allow heat to escape, and your meal will then take longer to cook. The glass lid allows you to monitor the cooking progress without interrupting cooking.
Suitable Foods for Slow Cooking Most foods are suited to slow cooking methods; however there are a few guidelines that need to be followed. · Make sure all frozen ingredients are well thawed out. · Cut root vegetable into small, even pieces, as they take longer to cook than meat. They should be gently sautéed for 2-3 minutes before slow cooking. Ensure that root vegetables are always placed at the bottom of the pot and all ingredients are immersed in the appropriate cooking liquid. · Trim all excess fat from meat before cooking, since the slow cooking method does not allow fat to evaporate. · If adapting an existing recipe from conventional cooking, you may need to cut down on the amount of liquid used. Liquid will not evaporate from the slow cooker to the same extent as with conventional cooking. · Never leave uncooked food at room temperature in the slow cooker. · Do not use the slow cooker to reheat food. · Uncooked red beans must be soaked and boiled for at least 10 minutes to remove toxins before use in a slow cooker. · Insert a meat thermometer into joints of roasts, hams, or whole chickens to ensure they are cooked to the desired temperature.
Do’s and Don’ts of Slow Cooking · Do not put the ceramic pot or its glass lid in an oven, freezer, or microwave or on a gas/electrical stove. · Don’t pre-heat before adding ingredients. · Do not subject the ceramic pot to sudden changes in temperature. Adding cold water to a very hot pot could cause it to crack. · Do not allow the pot to stand in water for a long time (You can leave water in the pot to soak). There is an area on the base of the ceramic pot that has to remain unglazed for manufacturing purposes. This unglazed area is porous, and therefore will soak up water, this should be avoided. · Do not switch the cooker on when the ceramic pot is empty or out of the base.
Tips for Slow Cooking · The slow cooker must be at least half full for best results. · The slow cooking process lets your food retain moisture. If you wish to reduce the amount of moisture that your food retains, remove the lid after cooking, turn the control knob to LOW and allow your food to simmer for 30 to 45 minutes. · The lid does not create a sealed fit. Don’t remove it unnecessarily as the built up heat will escape. Each time you remove the lid allow for 10 minutes of extra cooking time. · When cooking soups, leave 2 inches of space between the top of the ceramic pot and the food’s surface to allow for simmering. · Many recipes demand all day cooking. If you do not have time to prepare food that morning prepare it the night before and store the food in a covered container in your refrigerator. Transfer the food to the ceramic pot and add boiling liquid/gravy. Select the setting LOW, HIGH or WARM. · Most meat and vegetable recipes require 8-10 hours on LOW, 4-6 hours on HIGH or 5-7 hours on WARM. · Do not use frozen meat or poultry unless it is thoroughly thawed out first. · Some ingredients are not suitable for slow cooking. Pasta, seafood, milk, and cream should be added towards the end of the cooking time. Many things can affect how quickly a recipe will cook, such as water and fat content, initial temperature of the food and the size of the food. · Food can be cooked quicker by cutting it into small pieces. A degree of ‘trial and error’ will be required to fully optimize the potential of your slow cooker. · Vegetables usually take longer to cook than meat, so try and arrange vegetables in the lower half of the pot. · After food is cooked turn off your slow cooker, but leave it covered with the lid still on. There will be enough heat in the ceramic pot to keep the food warm for 30 minutes. If need to keep your food warm for a longer period of time, switch to the LOW setting.
· All food should be covered with a liquid, gravy or sauce. In a separate pan or jug prepare your liquid, gravy or sauce and use it to completely cover the food in the ceramic pot. · Pre-brown meat and onions in a pan to seal in the juices. This will also reduce the fat content if separated before adding to the ceramic pot. This is not necessary if time is limited, but it will improve the flavor. · When cooking joints of meat, ham, and poultry the size and shape of the joint is important. Try to keep the joint in the lower 2/3 of the pot and fully cover with water or liquid. If necessary, cut in two pieces. Joint weight should be kept within the maximum limit.
