Quick Guide to Your TV
Startup The steps below will get your TV connected and ready for watching. For more details, see the page numbers listed.
1. Hook up Your TV Details are in the Connections Section starting on page 22. Hook up any antennas, cables or other equipment to your TV before you follow the steps below.
2. Plug in the TV Plug the cord into the outlet, matching the wide and the small end of the plug with the outlet.
3. Obtain a Master Remote.

7. Set the Time A. Press MENU until the Alarm menu is selected. This menu is green. B. Press CHANNEL down to highlight the clock. C. Press – to set the hour. D. Press + to set the minutes. E. Press DISPLAY or CLEAR to remove the menu from the screen.
8. Use the Clone Box If several TVs need to be programmed with the same menu settings, an optional clone box can be used to copy all of the menu settings from the TV into other TVs to reduce installation time. Refer to the clone box owner's manual for operating instructions. 3
Quick Guide to Your TV
Remotes One master setup remote and an optional remote are available from your dealer. The description of the remote buttons and how they work are on pages 6 and 7 respectively. Only the Master Setup Remote is described throughout the manual for operating the TV and setting up the TV's features.

Optional User Remote The optional remote (CRK10D1) is used by the viewer for basic operating functions. It is designed so the viewer cannot alter features in the Adjust and Setup menus. The Clock, Alarm, Sleep, Radio, and Closed Captioning features are accessed with the buttons on the remote.

Using Your TV and Remote
Remote Buttons for Master Remote
(CRK10A1)
1. Power Button POWER Turns the TV on or off.
2. TV Buttons DISPLAY Shows displays on the screen. Clears menus from the screen. MUTE Turns the TV sound off and on. PREV CH (Previous Channel) Changes back and forth between two channels. Select a channel and then select another. Press PREV CHAN to switch between the two channels. VOL –/+ (Volume or) Raises and lowers sound. Moves left and right on a menu line. See Menu Basics on page 5. Changes a feature setting. CHAN (Channel up or down) Scans up and down through channels in the TV’s memory. Moves up and down menus. See Menu Basics on page 5. CLEAR Clears menus and displays from the screen.

MENU Brings menus to the screen and moves from menu to menu. RESET Returns the picture to the original settings.

Number Buttons (0-9) Selects any channel number. Two numbers must be pressed for each channel. Press 0 and 6 for channel 6. For three digit channels, press and hold 1 until 1- appears on the screen. Then press the other two numbers. INPUT (Not used in setup) Switches between TV and VCR signal. If VCR is attached through antenna/cable connector, signal is received on channel 03. SKIP (Commercial Skip) (Not used in setup) Allows scanning of other channels during commercials. Each press adds 30 seconds. TV switches back to original channel when time runs out.

Picture Settings (Master Remote only) Follow the steps below to change the picture on the screen to your personal setting. The chart at the bottom of the page explains your options.

Sound Settings: Stereo and Tone (Master Remote only) Follow these steps to adjust the Stereo or Tone of your TV. The chart below explains your options.
XS Stereo An Innovative Method for Providing Stereo Sound Effect The sound delivered by your television is XS Stereo. This patented process suppresses noise, restores the dynamic range and electronically expands the stereo signal to create a more spacious sound effect.

Listening to the FM Radio (Master Remote only) Turning on the radio should be the last adjustment during initial setup. If the FM Radio is turned on in the middle of the initial setup, it removes the Adjust and Setup menus from the TV screen and no additional adjustments can be made to these menus. This TV includes a built-in FM radio that can be controlled with or without the remote. The radio uses signal-seek tuning to automatically seek and tune the next active station. You can program up to nine of your favorite stations into memory when using the remote. See page 11 for details. The radio can be also be used with the sleep timer or alarm clock. See pages 16-17 for details.
1. Turn on the Radio A. Press MENU repeatedly to select the Controls Menu. This menu is yellow. B. Press CHANNEL down to highlight FM Radio. C. Press + repeatedly to select Auto Tune, Manual Tune, or Off. Selection of Auto Tune or Manual Tune turns off Adjust and Setup Menus. Select Auto Tune if you want the radio to search and stop at the next available station. Select Manual Tune if you want to step through the stations one at a time. D. Press DISPLAY or CLEAR to remove the menu from the screen.

2. Change the Stations In the Auto Tune position, press CHANNEL up to automatically scan and stop on the next higher station. Press CHANNEL down to automatically scan and stop on the next lower station. In the Manual Tune position, press CHANNEL up or down to step through each station, one at a time. This is used when the radio signal is not strong to stop on the station during automatic tuning.
3. Stop Search A. Press CHANNEL up or down to search for a station. B. Press the opposite CHANNEL button from the one that was pressed to stop on the next station. 10

Radio Station
Programming FM Radio Stations into Memory (Master Remote only) Nine radio stations can be programmed into the TV's memory so they can be quickly selected. The number buttons 1 through 9 can be programmed to automatically select the stations.
1. Select the Radio Station A. Place the FM Radio feature under the Controls menu in the Manual Tune position. B. Press CHANNEL up or down to step through the radio stations one at a time to select the station.

2. Store the Station A. Press 0. “Press 1 - 9 to store” will appear on the screen. B. Press any number 1-9. The radio station is now programmed. When you press the number, the FM radio will automatically tune to the station programmed. C. Repeat items 1 and 2 to program additional stations.
Tuning the National Weather Service Two National Weather Service stations are located between the highest and lowest end of the radio scale (between 107.9 and 88.1).

A. Select Manual Tune in the FM Radio menu. B. Press CHANNEL up or down to step through each frequency one at a time. NWS A and NWS B will appear on the screen to let you know you are listening to National Weather Service stations.

Placing Channels in Memory (Master Remote Only) Only channels 2–13 appear in the TV’s memory when you first turn it on. The channels available in your area must be programmed into the TV's memory when you hook up your TV. Up to three separate channel scan lists (A, B, and C) can be stored in the TV's memory. CHANNEL up or down scans through the channels in the selected list. The stored lists can be turned off to show one channel in memory. You may want to add or delete a few channels if some stations have weak signals or were off the air when the TV was programmed. Refer to the Add or Delete Channels section below.
1. Select the Channel List A. Hook up an antenna, cable or components before you begin these steps or you will not be able to add channels into memory. B. Press MENU repeatedly to select the Setup Menu. This menu is white. C. Press CHANNEL down to highlight Channel List. D. Press + repeatedly to select either the channel list you want to program or Disabled to keep the TV tuned to only one channel.

Selecting a Language (Master Remote only) The on-screen displays in this TV can be displayed in two languages: English and Spanish. When you select a language, some of the displays will be shown on the screen in your preferred language. The items in the Controls and Alarm menus can be shown in Spanish or English. Menu items in Adjust and Setup can only be shown in English.

Naming the Channels (Labeling) (Master Remote only) You can name at least 20 channels with eight characters in each name. Full appears beside Label when the memory is used up. Fixed appears when a channel number cannot be named. Below are the characters that can be used in a name.

Watching Closed Captioning (Master Remote only) Closed captioning displays the sound of a program as words on the TV screen. It is useful for the deaf, hearing impaired, or anyone who wants to watch a program without sound. If you have turned Closed Captioning on and it does not appear on the screen, it is not available on the channel you are watching. Closed Captioning is not available on all programs or at all times. The closed captioning modes are CC1, CC2, CC3, and CC4. CC1 carries a primary language in your area. CC3 carries an alternate service, such as a secondary language translation or simplified English. CC2 or CC4 carry closed captioning but not necessarily in the same time frame as the sound from the program. Several second delays are typical for CC2 and CC4 settings. The T1, T2, T3, and T4 text modes typically consist of program information, local activities, etc. These Text Modes may not be available in all areas.

Setting the Sleep Timer (Master Remote only) You can set your TV to turn itself off. If you’re watching TV or listening to the FM radio at night and fall asleep, the TV will turn off for you.
1. Set Sleep Timer A. Press MENU to select the Controls menu and highlight Sleep Timer. This menu is yellow. B. Press + to enter the amount of time you want to watch TV before it shuts off. Each press equals 15 minutes. C. Press – to subtract time from the sleep timer. D. Press DISPLAY or CLEAR to remove the menu from the screen.

Setting the Alarm Clock (Master Remote only) The TV can be set to turn on and/or off each day similar to an alarm clock. It can be set to turn on to a specific TV channel or FM radio station at a designated time. Once the Alarm turns on, it will automatically turn off after one hour. Setting the Alarm is a one-time event, the Alarm is automatically disabled after the event. Also, it is automatically disabled if TV Power is set to Always or if the Clock features are set to disabled in the Setup Menu.

TV Power The TV Power feature allows the TV to remain on unless the TV power is interrupted with a set-top cable converter or the AC cord is unplugged. A. Press MENU to select the Setup menu. Setup Menu (Master Remote Only) Maximum Volume Level Maximum Volume sets the limit of the volume level and cannot be set lower than the Initial Volume. Volume Hold The TV's volume level will remain at a constant level when this feature is enabled. 1 ANT/CABLE IN Connector Used to attach either a home antenna or cable system to your TV.
2 OUT TO ANT/CABLE, FM IN, TV IN Connectors Used to attach an FM antenna and/or home antenna or cable system to your TV. If these connections are used, you must connect the OUT TO ANT/CABLE connector to the ANT/CABLE IN using an RF jumper cable to route the signals to the TV.
3 MASTER DISABLE AND INTERNAL SPEAKER OFF/ON Switch Used to make the TV inoperable or used to turn the internal speakers of the TV on or off.
4 THEFT ALARM Connector Used to connect a compatible alarm system. The pre-existing termination value at this jack is 2700 ohms.
5 EXTERNAL SPEAKER Jack Used to connect an external speaker. Sound then comes through the TV's internal speakers and the external speaker that was attached.
6 REMOTE Interface Connector Used to connect an optional wired remote control. Several types of wired remotes are available. Other remotes use the adapter plug that came packed with the TV. Used to link compatible external devices which allow for monitoring and changing the status and operation of the TV. The connector is a six-pin telephone-type.

Trouble Checks You may have problems that can be fixed with a few minor adjustments. Look for the type of problem you are having below and then try the suggestions to get your TV going again. For warranty information see page 28.

Plug TV in. Plug something else into the outlet to make sure it is working. Make sure batteries in the remote are not dead. Aim the remote at the TV and press TV•FM. Make sure batteries are placed in the remote the right way. See batteries on page 2. Unplug TV for a few minutes and then turn it on again.
TV will not turn off
Check to see if the TV Power feature has been set to Always. Set this to Switched. See page 19.
No picture, no sound but TV has power

Remote lockup
Remove batteries and hold down one or more buttons for several seconds to drain the microprocessor inside the remote and reset it. Re-install the batteries and try remote again.

You should not use cleaners such as Windex® with vinegar, Lenox® Furniture Polish spray, Heinz® Cleaning Vinegar, or disinfectant cleaners to clean your TV cabinet.
