16/24 Port Fast Ethernet Web-Smart Switch user manual Models 523790 & 523806 INT-523790/523806-UM-0407-02 introduction Thank you for purchasing the INTELLINET NETWORK SOLUTIONS™ 16-Port (Model 523790) or 24-Port (Model 523806) Fast Ethernet Web-Smart Switch. This device is designed for growing businesses that want control over their network without the cost and complexity of a full Layer 2/Layer 3 management implementation. This high-performing switch features a non-blocking wire-speed architecture for maximum data throughput. All RJ-45 ports automatically negotiate to the highest speed and support Auto Uplink technology to make the right link. In addition, an intuitive, Web-browser interface offers the simple Smart Switch management, making it a snap to monitor switch performance, configure ports, even set up port trunks, VLANs and traffic prioritization. INTRODUCTION  setup/installation Front Panel The RJ-45 connectors on the front panel of the Fast Ethernet Web-Smart Switch (16 for Model 523790, shown below; 24 for Model 523806, with a similar layout) are for connecting to servers, workstations or other network components. The device features a corresponding number of 10/100 Mbps switching ports that sense the speed and automatically negotiate full/ half duplex mode, allowing you make both 10Base-T and 100Base-TX connections. The corresponding port is operating at 100 Mbps. The corresponding port is operating at 10 Mbps. The corresponding port is ready for connection/operation. The corresponding port is transmitting data. The image at right is an example of how a network can be configured using the Fast Ethernet Web-Smart Switch in combination with servers, individual workstations and other devices. Additionally, any port on the Fast Ethernet Web-Smart Switch can serve as an uplink port connected with another hub or switch in order to expand and share the same function, as shown in the image below. Rear Panel The On/Off switch and the AC connection are located on the rear panel of the Fast Ethernet Web-Smart Switch, as shown at right.  SETUP/INSTALLATION configuration 1. Use a twisted pair cable to connect the Fast Ethernet Web-Smart Switch to your PC, then turn on power to the switch. 2. Set your PC’s IP INTELLINET NETWORK SOLUTIONS Fast Ethern to 192.168.2.xx. 3. Open your Web browser, then go to the 192.168.2.1 site to display the login screen (right). Enter a username and password (the factory defaults are “admin” for both). Click “OK” to continue to the Fast Ethernet Web Smart Switch’s home page. (Fast Ethernet Web-Smart Switch) The home page (welcome screen) presents the configuration menu options for the Web-Smart Switch settings in the left-hand column, as shown at right: Administrator, Port Management, VLAN Setting, Trunk Setting, QoS Setting, MAC Address Configuration and Logout. NOTE: Screen images for the 24-port model are identical to those shown for the 16-port model. CONFIGURATION  Administrator Authentication To change the password — or create a new username/ password — fill in the appropriate fields, then click “Update.” Restart the switch to effect any change that you have made on the screen. System IP Configuration To change the IP address, fill in the appropriate field(s), then click “Update.” Once the message “Setting process OK!” appears, restart the switch to effect any change that you have made. System Status This screen displays the switch’s MAC address and system firmware version. Load Default Setting To load the factory default settings, click “Load.” Once “Setting process OK!” appears, restart the switch to effect any changes. All switch settings now revert to initial factory defaults. Remember, the switch’s IP address once again becomes 192.168.2.1; the user ID and password both become “admin.”  CONFIGURATION Firmware Update To update with new firmware, follow the instructions on this screen. Port Management Port Configuration Port No. lets you select the port number you want to configure from the drop-down menu. Link Capability lets you set the selected port in either Auto-Nego(tiation) mode or Force mode (100M or 10M). Duplex lets you designate the selected port as full or half duplex. Tx & Rx lets you enable or disable the selected port. Pause and Backpressure give you an enable/disable option. Port Mirroring This screen lets you mirror traffic from a source port to a destination port for analysis. Select the destination port (1–16 or 1-24) from the drop-down menu; check the source port’s box. CONFIGURATION  Bandwidth Control Port No. lets you select the port number you want to configure from the drop-down menu. Tx Rate lets you set the transmission rate for the selected port; Rx Rate, the receiving rate: 400 kbps, 800 kbps, 2 Mbps, 4 Mbps, 8 Mbps, 10 Mbps or 50 Mbps. Broadcast Storm Control Enabling the broadcast storm protection feature lets you choose the number of broadcast packets allowed to enter each port (10 ms for 100 Mbps; 100 ms for 10 Mbps). VLAN Setting Group VLAN Setting Eight VLAN groups can be used. Select a group, then click the port number you want included.  CONFIGURATION VLAN Multi to 1 Mode Once this setting’s been activated, ports can only connect with the designated destination port. Trunk Configuration To set up port trunk groups, click the port number boxes you want included in the same group. QoS Setting Priority Mode Select one of three priority modes: First-In/First Service, All-HighBefore-Low, Weight-RoundRobin (Low/High). CONFIGURATION  Class of Service Configuration On this screen, select the class of service for each port. MAC Address Configuration For MAC address configuration, select the port number(s) for which you want to enable or disable the MAC address filter function. Click “Update” to effect any change. Logout Click to log off. NOTE: If you forget your IP address or password, follow these steps to reset the Fast Ethernet Web-Smart Switch to the original default settings. 1. Turn the switch off. 2. Press and hold the Reset button on the front panel while you turn the switch back on. 3. After 5 seconds, release the Reset button. 4. You can now return to the original default and enter the ID and password to display the User Login screen again.
