CAUTION: Parts can be damaged by electrostatic discharge. Keep parts in their containers until needed. Make sure that you are properly grounded when touching static sensitive components. NOTE: If the power supply is redundant (there is another one in the module), the power supply is hot-swappable; you do not have to turn off power to the library or module to remove and replace a redundant power supply. Abstract This document describes how to remove and replace an existing or install a new +48V 1500W power supply in an 18/24 Control Module or Expansion Module. Prepare the library 1. If you are replacing the only power supply in the module, power off the library: a. Make sure there is no I/O activity on any of the partitions. b. Make sure that you are viewing the physical library. From the View menu or in the Managed Views region of the Operator Control Panel (OCP), click the name of the physical library. c. Select Shutdown, then click OK in the confirmation dialog box. When the shutdown process completes, the OCP display turns dark. To turn off power to the library, press the Power button on the indicator panel. Open the service door to the module. Attach the ESD strap to your wrist and to an unpainted surface inside the door. 4. On the power distribution unit(s), in the upper left corner of the 18/24 module, set the power switch to the down (0) position to turn power off. 1. Power switch 1. Power supply locked 2. Power supply unlocked Remove the existing power supply (replacement only) 1. 3. Undo the thumbscrew of the power cord lock for the power supply you want to replace, and unplug the power cord from the power supply. Install the new power supply 1. 2. 3. 4. 1. Power cable 2. Remove the power supply by gripping the handle and pulling it straight back. Use the handle to disengage the power supply from the chassis. When the power supply is engaged and locked, the handle will be flush with the top of the power supply. When disengaged and unlocked, the handle will be away from the power supply and near the bottom of the power supply. 5. Insert the new power supply into the vacant slot. When inserted, push the handle upward to lock the power supply into place. Plug in the power cable. Place the cord in the groove on the cord lock and tighten the thumbscrew. If you are installing a redundant power supply, also slide the new PDU into the opening (to the right of the power supply), tighten the thumbscrew, and attach the power cable to the PDU. Ensure the new power supply’s switch is in the on (I) position. Prepare the library for use 1. 2. Detach the ESD strap and close the service access door. If the library was powered off for this procedure, press the Power button on the indicator panel to power it back on. The library begins to boot up. A library with only a few drives usually will be fully powered on and ready for use within 10 minutes. However, if a library is large with a high number of drives, it can take more than an hour for the library to fully power on, complete its discovery process, and become ready for use. During Page 2 3. the power on process, the Robotics Enabled indicator flashes. When the library is fully powered on and ready to receive commands, the Robotics Enabled indicator turns solid green. Check the status of the power supply’s LEDs. The green and blue LEDs should be solidly lit. If this is a replacement, close the event that was generated for the failed power supply.
