Subwoofers 83 ProAudio Subwoofer Technology Clarion’s XW Subwoofers The XW1500, XW1200 and XW1000 have all the features to make them heavy-hitters in the SPL department. A unique cast aluminum basket gives extra strength to prevent warping and excess vibration, as well as supporting the speaker connectors to eliminate failures. The combination of polypropylene with an aluminum coating create a strong, lightweight cone. Double stacked strontium-ferrite magnets energize a heat resistant aluminum voice coil for increased power handling. A new technology, S.E.T. (Spider Exhaust Technology) debuts with the XW series. Not only is the voice coil vented, but the spider has cooling vents all around its surface to further enhance the power handling capabilities of these subwoofers. Add to this technology a new method of supporting the tinsel wire between the voice coil and the speaker connectors. The tinsel is actually woven into the spider material to prevent stress and vibration caused failure of this wire, along with increasing the throw of the cone for increased bass output. E.V.A. System E.V.A. (Extended Voice Coil Alignment) is a new technology unique to the ProAudio SRW subwoofers. In order to get more wire on the voice coil, and to create a long cone throw, Clarion’s engineers designed a longer voice coil that actually extends above the spider and into the center of the cone. It is held in alignment with a specially designed FRP bridge support and is fastened to the cone. This design locks the cone, spider and voice coil into one solid mechanism, which keeps the motor assembly aligned under the long throw of the voice coil assembly. It also keeps more wire in the voice coil gap for higher spl and higher power handling capacity. Polypropylene woofer cone w/Aluminum coating z E.V.A. Voice Coil support bridge z Rear Vented Pole Piece To prevent pressure from building up inside the center cap and causing increased amplitude distortion, a vent is provided on the rear of the pole piece. This results in a completely smooth cone movement, which contributes to the smooth, powerful bass response. Chrome-Plated Terminals The speaker terminals are chrome-plated push-on types with minimal contact resistance and high transmission efficiency. 84 E.V.A. Combining this magnet with the heat resistant voice coil results in subwoofers that are able to deliver high spl’s at large inputs with improved damping.
