SpectraPure® Systems operate on normal city or well water with pressure greater than 40 psi and are designed for home, hobby and light commercial applications. Line Pressure Operated RO Systems are available in production rates of 15 to 160 gallons per day (gpd). Several performance and utility options are also available in these models, many of which are standard on our Deluxe Models. Complete RO Drinking Water Systems are also available. See pages 7 - 8. Reverse Osmosis/Deionization (RO/DI) Systems SpectraPure® Line Pressure Operated RO/DI Systems are designed to further purify the RO product water by passing it through a DI (deionization) cartridge which is integrated into the system. The DI cartridge contains ion exchange resin which remove the last traces of contaminants from the RO product water. RO/DI Systems from SpectraPure® incorporate a complete line of specialized deionizing cartridges to treat virtually any problem water source, from colloidal silica to chloramines. SpectraPure® RO/DI Systems are designed for high-tech hobby, laboratory and other ultra-pure water applications. RO/DI Systems are available in production rates of 15 to 160 gallons per day. See pages 9 - 10. Deionization Systems SpectraPure® Mixed-Bed Deionizing Systems use the same great technology as our RO/DI Systems. Mixed-Bed DI Systems are designed to be added to an existing RO System and are available with cartridge sizes from 10” x 2.5” to 20” x 4.25”. See pages 11-13. Drinking Water Systems SpectraPure® Drinking Water Systems provide the best pre-filtration available, the best contaminant removal and quality only SpectraPure® can provide. SpectraPure® highcapacity pure water storage tanks ensure a continuous source of delicious, purified water. See pages 14 - 16.
Pumped Reverse Osmosis (RO) Systems SpectraPure® Pumped RO Systems produce a larger volume of a higher purity water than our Line Pressure Operated Systems, by adding a high-pressure pump. Pumped RO Systems are designed for medium to heavy commercial and light industrial applications and are available in production rates of 350 to 2,600 gallons per day (gpd) and up. You can choose one of our Standard Pumped Systems or let SpectraPure® design one for you. See pages 17 -19. SpectraPure® Pre-Filtration Assemblies are excellent for stand-alone use or for high-volume RO pre-filtration. SpectraPure® offers a complete custom design service to meet all of your water purification needs. Sediment Pre-Filtration Assemblies, Carbon Pre-Filtration Assemblies, and Integrated Sediment and Carbon Pre-Filtration Assemblies are available. See page 18. Carbon Filters and Filtration Systems SpectraPure® Carbon Filters contain GAC (Granulated Activated Carbon) and are used for high volume removal of chlorine, chloramines, organic compounds, pesticides and other chemical contaminants found in many water supplies today. They can be used as pre-filtration for RO Systems to protect RO membranes from chlorine damage. The GAC can be backwashed (cleaned) and all systems come with control valves which accomplish backwashing automatically. See page 20. Water Softeners SpectraPure® Water Softeners remove hardness (calcium and magnesium salts) from water supplies by passing the water through ion-exchange resin beds. Using a Water Softener significantly reduces the waste water from RO and RO/DI Systems and greatly increases membrane life. Water Softeners are designed in various sizes for home, business and commercial use. Dual Bed Systems are available for a continuous supply of soft water. Water Softeners are available in sizes from 32,000 to 500,000 grains of capacity. See page 21. SpectraSelect™ Membranes SpectraPure® SpectraSelect™ Membranes are handpicked for consistent ultra-high rejection, and have the highest known rejection rate of all Reverse Osmosis Membranes available. No other membrane can match the SpectraSelect™ for long life or the ability to remove silica phosphates, nitrates, and heavy metals. These membranes are standard equipment in our Deluxe Reverse Osmosis and RO/DI Systems. The SpectraSelect™ Membrane is also available as a replacement option for most Reverse Osmosis Systems. See page 24.

SpectraPure How Reverse Osmosis Systems Work Reverse Osmosis Systems purify water by passing it through a series of filters to remove particulates, harmful chemicals and pollutants. It is then forced through a special plastic membrane to remove very small particles and ionic contaminants. In the pre-filtration stage, tap or well water first passes through a sediment filter where silt, sediment and particles (like sand and clay) are removed. Water is then forced through a high-efficiency carbon block filter where micropulverized carbon efficiently adsorbs chlorine, chloramines, pesticides, other harmful organic chemicals and pollutants. The pre-filtered water, now stripped of membrane damaging impurities, flows into the RO membrane module where pure water molecules are forced through the membrane, while salts, hardness, bacteria, viruses, pyrogens and other impurities are flushed from the system.
How Reverse Osmosis/Deionization Works Reverse Osmosis Membranes, although very good at removing contaminants, still allow trace amounts to pass through. Nitrates, phosphates and silica are among these substances not fully removed. By further processing RO water through multi-layered, mixed-bed deionization cartridges, even difficult to remove chemicals are reduced to virtually undetectable levels. The deionization cartridge contains beds of positively and negatively charged polymers which react with contaminants to chemically remove them from the water stream. The result is ultra-pure water that is extremely low in contaminants. Note: Deionization cartridge life is greatly reduced when operated on source waters with low pH, high carbon dioxide levels, chlorine, chloramines, or ammonia. Aeration or degassification of RO product water is recommended for removal of carbon dioxide. Contact SpectraPure® for more information.
Choosing a Water Purification System The following are a series of questions designed to help the SpectraPure® Technical Support Staff determine what water treatment equipment is appropriate for your particular water requirements. - What do you intend to use the water for? - Do you have well water or municipal water? - What is the pH of your source water? - What is the general hardness of your water? - Do you plan on softening your water? - What is the bicarbonate alkalinity of your water? - Do you have high silica levels in your water? - Do you have chlorine or chloramine in your water? - Does your municipality perform soda-limesoftening? - Are aluminum coagulants used in your source water? - Are poly-phosphates added to your water? - What is the temperature of your water? - What is the pressure of your water?

The MAXCAP D4™ DI System • Ultra-high purity water (18 megohm-cm resistivity) • Super-capacity, highest removal rates of phosphates, silica, nitrates, and heavy metals • Provides up to five times longer cartridge life • Only DI System to remove non-reactive colloidal silica, which passes through RO membranes and ordinary DI cartridges • Exclusive 4-Stage Deionizing System eliminates contaminant leakage with secondary back-up cartridges • Powder-coated aluminum bracket • Clear filter housings • Filter wrench included • Dimensions: 20” x 7” x 16” SpectraPure’s New Four-Stage Deionizing System, The MaxCap D4™ is optimized for use with RO water and provides the most complete removal of silica, colloidal silica, phosphates, nitrates, ammonia and heavy metals available. The MaxCap D4™ eliminates contaminant leakage from exhausted DI cartridges with the addition of secondary back-up cartridges. An exhausted deionization cartridge will leak the removed impurities back into the water at levels many times higher than originally found in the source water. Two sets of MaxCap™ Cartridges (DI-MC-10) and two sets of non color-indicating Silica-Buster™ Resin Cartridges (DI-SB-10) prevent this leakage. When the first MaxCap™ Cartridge reads 75% TDS of the RO TDS, it should be removed and the secondary back-up cartridge is rotated to the first position and a new cartridge replaces the second-stage cartridge. When the TDS for the first Silica-Buster™ Cartridge reads .001, it should be removed and the secondary back-up cartridge is rotated to the third position and a new cartridge replaces the fourth-stage cartridge. With this configuration, the possibility of contaminated water due to exhausted cartridges is completely eliminated. With the majority of contaminants now removed from the RO source water, the water achieves 18 megohm purity.

14 MAXCAP™ ADD-ON KITS
(For upgrading a standard RO system to the MaxCap™ RO/DI System) Everything you need to add a dual stage DI to your existing RO system. SpectraPure, Inc.® Revolutionary MaxCap DI ™ cartridge has over 3 times more capacity than any other Mixed-Bed or Hi-Silica removal deionizing cartridge. Install after your existing RO system to remove any unwanted algae growth in your aquarium. This incredible break-through in DI cartridge technology will enable you to produce DI water at less than half of any other dual stage DI systems. The MaxCap DI™ is used as a “roughing” cartridge followed by our original SilicaBuster™ . For example, if the RO water has 25 ppm TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) entering a SilicaBuster™ cartridge alone, it may only process about 200 gallons of pure DI water. By placing a MaxCap DI ™ cartridge in front of the SilicaBuster™ cartridge, 600 gallons of water will pass through both cartridges before the Max Cap DI ™ is exhausted. The SilicaBuster™ DI cartridge will be only one-third exhausted. A second Max Cap DI ™ will process another 600 gallons and the SilicaBuster™ cartridge will now be two-thirds exhausted. Only after a third Max Cap DI ™ cartridge processes another 600 gallons will the SilicaBuster™ cartridge finally become fully exhausted. This example illustrates that three Max Cap DI ™ cartridges plus the original mixed-bed cartridge will process 1800 gallons of pure DI water. It would have taken nine original mixed-bed cartridges to produce the same amount of pure DI water.

Optional Permeate Pump for Drinking Water Systems (THE CLS COMES STANDARD WITH PERMEATE PUMP)
A Permeate Pump increases net pressure across the RO membrane by isolating the membrane pressure from the pressure in the product water tank, thereby reducing the permeate back pressure to less than 3 psi. Using a permeate pump with an automatic shut-off valve greatly increases water purity stored in the tank, eliminating TDS (Total Dissolved Solids) creep. The pump requires no electricity and is powered by energy from brine normally lost to drain. The use of permeate pump increases membrane life and pre-filter life, reduces waste water by up to 80%, and fills the tank 2 times faster than conventional units. Our Permeate Pump Retrofit Kit includes a permeate pump, mounting clip, an automatic shut-off valve and all necessary tubing and fittings. It is available for use with existing RO or RO/DI Drinking Water Systems. Use PP-RFK-RO for RO Systems with Drinking Water Kits & use PP-RFK-DI for RO/DI Systems with Drinking Water kits.

Four-Stage Drinking Water Systems w/ Permeate Pump (All the benefits of a DWS while decreasing the waste by 50%) All the Benefits of Our Deluxe Drinking Water Systems Plus these exclusive features
SpectraPure® DWS-PP Deluxe Drinking Water Systems incorporate an advanced water-conserving permeate pump and auto shut-off valve. The permeate pump has many advantages over conventional Reverse Osmosis Drinking Water Systems.
• Conserves water - reduces waste water by 50% vs. conventional units • Fills faster - up to 2 times faster than conventional RO Systems • Doubles pre-filter life over conventional RO Systems • Higher purity - no tank back pressure means higher differential pressures at membrane • Greater tank capacity - higher tank pressure means more water in your tank • Longer membrane life • Works better in low line pressure environments • Lead-free, long-reach faucet • Filter wrench included
SpectraPure’s DWS-PP™ Deluxe Drinking Water Systems operate entirely on city water pressure - no electricity required; cost effective water purification producing great tasting pure water for the home and office. Our deluxe system offers you superior four-stage filtration which combines two pre-filters (0.5 micron MicroTec™ sediment & 0.5 micron carbon block) with a SpectraSelect™ membrane and a granulated post carbon filter. The water first passes through the pre-filters, where sediment, chlorine, pesticides and many other organic chemicals are removed. Water then flows into the RO module, where dissolved solids (hardness, sodium, heavy metals), bacteria and viruses are removed. The filtered water then is collected in a pressurized storage tank. After the tank is full, the automatic shut-off valve turns the system off. When water is withdrawn from the unit, it passes through the final carbon polishing filter, assuring fresh, great tasting drinking water every time. In addition to all the features included in our SpectraPure® Deluxe Drinking Water Systems, our DWS-PP™ Systems incorporate an advanced, water conserving permeate pump to reduce waste water by up to 80% compared to conventional RO drinking water systems. The permeate pump operates with no electricity by using existing waste water pressure. Additional advantages include longer membrane life, greatly improved water quality, tank refills in half the time, greater holding capacity, and extended low line pressure operation. As mentioned, DWS-PP™ Systems also feature SpectraSelect™ membranes (guaranteed to achieve >98% rejection), a 0.5 µm MicroTec™ sediment filter, and a 0.5 µm carbon block filter (for greatly enhanced membrane life). Deluxe DWS-PP™ Systems are available from 25 GPD (95 LPD) to 90 GPD (340 LPD).

Ultra-high-rejection TFC membranes remove more than 99% of organics (molecular weight greater than 300), more than 99% of dissolved in organics, 99% of all particles, micro-organisms, pyrogens and colloids, and have greater than 99% conductivity rejection. The system’s waste water recirculation loop minimizes membrane fouling, maximizes membrane life and allows increased recovery. A built-in liquid level control or pressure tank control switch automatically fills storage tank and shuts off system while low pressure cut-off and safe-start motor protection circuitry prevents pump and motor damage. For a Pumped Reverse Osmosis System to function effectively and yield long membrane life, the feed water MUST meet the requirements in the box below: Tap, well and lake feed water sources do not meet these requirements. For these applications, all Pumped Reverse Osmosis Systems must be operated with proper pre-filtration meeting these requirements. (SEE PAGE 23 FOR PRE-FILTRATION) When sizing a system, we highly recommend selecting a flow rating that is at least 2 to 3 times the actual expected water use per day. This will compensate for low water temperatures and dramatically lengthen the service life of the system.

23 Pre-Filtration System
Reverse Osmosis Pre-Filtration should be a combination of sediment and carbon filtration. The sediment filters bring the feed water NTU (nephelometric turbidity units) value to less than 1. The carbon filters further reduce the sediment and turbidity levels in your filters. They bring chlorine, chloramines and VOC (volatile organic chemicals) levels in the water down to acceptable levels. Because of the high recovery of the pumped RO systems a water softener is required ahead of the reverse osmosis system. This will greatly increase membrane life and reduce maintenance costs of the RO system. Note: Calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese salts present in water supplies foul the membranes and reduce their productivity. Water softeners exchange hardness (calcium, magnesium, iron and manganese) for sodium. Sodium salts are highly soluble and do not foul the membranes readily. If hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is present in your water supply, a catalytic carbon filtration assembly will be needed.

Granulated Activated Carbon Filters (Carbon Filtration Systems)
• • • • •
Perfect for household and commercial use Eliminates hard water spots, cleaning is easier Reduces soap and detergent use, clothing lasts longer Extends the life of appliances, plumbing and water heaters Protects RO membranes
SpectraPure® Granulated Activated Carbon Filters (GAC) are perfect for point of entry household water treatment and commercial/industrial use. GAC Filters remove chlorine, chloramines, organic compounds, pesticides and other chemical contaminants found in many water supplies today. GAC Filters eliminate the possible harmful effects of bathing in water containing organic and chemical pollutants. The absorption of these pollutants through the skin or by breathing the vapors during showering are possibly more harmful than the effects of drinking untreated water. GAC Filters are also the most economical and effective means of protecting commercial and industrial size RO membranes from deterioration and fouling. SpectraPure® Carbon Filters come with automatic control valves for backwashing the filtration media for prolonged life of the filter. Note: GAC filters, when used to supply water to an RO system, must be purchased with the micro-switch option (see table below) that turns the power off to the RO system when the filter is backwashing. SpectraPure® Granulated Activated Carbon Filters of greater capacity than those listed below are also available. Contact SpectraPure® for details. (Single or Twin-Bed Water Softeners) For hard water supplies, SpectraPure® recommends the use of a Water Softener ahead of the Reverse Osmosis System for efficient operation, water savings and longer life of the membrane. The Water Softener will replace the hardness (minerals, calcium and magnesium) in water with sodium. This prevents mineral-scale build-up on the RO membrane. • Perfect for household and commercial use • Eliminates hard water spots, cleaning is easier • Reduces soap and detergent use, clothing lasts longer • Extends the life of appliances, plumbing and water heaters • Protects RO membranes Alternating Twin-Bed Softeners provides a continuous, uninterrupted supply of soft water to the RO system at all times allowing the RO system to operate 24 hours a day when needed. Note: Single-Bed Softeners, when used to supply water to an RO Unit, must be purchased with the micro-switch option (see table below) which turns the power off to the RO system when the softener is regenerating. SpectraPure® Water Softeners of greater capacity than those listed below are also available. Contact SpectraPure® for details.

33 Carbon Block Filters
SpectraPure® Carbon Block Filters remove chlorine, organic chemicals and chemicals that contribute to taste and odor. Carbon block filters act as near absolute-rated sediment filters. They are much more efficient than the granulated carbon filters because there is no channeling or bypassing of fluids. They also have higher adsorptive efficiency and higher turbidity reduction than granular filters. Carbon block filters are available in three micron ratings (½, 1 and 5 - nominal) and two different sizes (diameter x length).
In-Line Carbon Block Filter
MicroTec™ Carbon Block Filter • Removes chlorine, organics, taste and odor • Dual-purpose - combination sediment and carbon filter • Excellent service life • No channeling or bypassing of fluids • Only the ½ micron carbon block filter removes trihalomethanes, pesticides, volatile organic chemicals and 99.95% of giardia and cryptosporidium cysts and meets the NSF Standards
SpectraPure® In-Line Carbon Filters have been specifically optimized for use with Reverse Osmosis or Distillation Systems. The ultra-pure water produced by reverse osmosis or distillation often requires post carbon filtration to remove volatile organic chemicals , tastes and odors that may be picked up from the storage system. This Carbon Block filter is available as 10 inch “inline” cartridge. Catalytic Carbon filters are available as drop-in cartridges that fit standard 10” and 20” filter housing to remove hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen peroxide.

Silica-BusterTM Mixed-Bed Multi-Layer DI Cartridge SilicaFreeTM Color-Indicating Anion Cartridges • Color changes to show remaining capacity • Removes colloidal silica and all anionic impurities, including carbon dioxide
• Highest capacity for phosphates, silica and nitrates • Regenerable with sodium hydroxide for reuse • Aluminized packaging eliminates resin degradation SpectraPure® SilicaFree™ Color-Indicating Anion Cartridges are a super-capacity, strong-base anion resin cartridge which removes anionic contaminants such as silica, phosphates, nitrates, chlorides, sulfates, fluoride, sulfide, carbonates, bicarbonates, carbon dioxide and exchanges them for hydroxide ions resulting in a very high pH coming from this cartridge. Ordinary mixed-bed DI resins and cartridges have difficulty in removing non-reactive colloidal silica and certain ionic species of phosphates. The SpectraPure® SilicaFree™ Cartridge will remove these to undetectable levels. Use this cartridge ahead of mixed-bed or two-bed layered cartridges or after a strong acid cation cartridge in two-bed Deionizing Systems.

• Removes all heavy metals and cationic impurities • Regenerable with hydrochloric acid for reuse • Aluminized packaging eliminates resin degradation SpectraPure® SilicaBuster™ Mixed-Bed Multi-Layer Deionization Cartridges are fabricated with semiconductor grade resins for highest possible purity. They are capable of producing 18 megohm-cm resistivity water. They are the first deionization cartridges designed to reduce silica, nitrates and phosphate levels in the low ppb range. These newly formulated cartridges far exceed the performance of previous cartridges, offering enhanced contaminant removal, longer life and higher purity. Caution: The deionization cartridge life is greatly reduced when operated on low pH waters or water with high CO2 (carbon dioxide) levels. The exact cartridge life will vary greatly with pH, carbon dioxide levels and TDS etc. in your RO water or the feed water supplying the RO system. Aeration or degassification of RO product water is recommended for such waters for removal of carbon dioxide.

40 The LiterMeter III A Fully Automatic and Calibrated Precision Dosing System for the Aquarium & Hydroponics Industries. The new LiterMeter III™ is an automatic precision dosing system for the aquarium and horticulture industry. Three independent programs control one built-in pump and up to two external pumps. Perform 2-way water changes, in addition to eliminating the manual drudgery of dosing Kalkwasser, trace elements, or topping off evaporated water. Quiet operation, auto-calibration, and virtually maintenance-free.
“NEW” 5-YEAR LIMITED WARRANTY INCLUDING TUBING! The new pump is made out of precision-machined aluminum fabricated to exacting aerospace tolerances. For example, such critical tolerances as the rollers are machined to +/-0.0005”. The outer surface is polished to a mirror finish. Internal surfaces are held to a 63 micro inch finish and hard anodized to provide a durable and low-friction raceway. The pump’s planetary direct drive is at an 11:1 ratio, providing enough torque to generate over 40 pounds of pressure. This incredible lift enables the LiterMeter III™ to pump over 60 feet above itself at a flow rate of over 250 ml/min. It can also draw up from 25 feet below. Calcium maintenance and alkalinity control are essential for a healthy reef tank. Kalkwasser replenishment, to be most effective, should be added to your aquarium slowly and consistently to avoid precipitation of calcium carbonate. The LiterMeter III™ automatically and reliably performs this task for you. Other dosing and mixing operations involving 2- and 3-part formulae can be precisely metered and monitored. Two-way water exchanges can be performed automatically. The LiterMeter III™ offers features found only on expensive laboratory pumps, such as microprocessor control and nonvolatile memory. Unlike noisy industrial metering pumps sold to the aquarium trades, the LiterMeter III was specifically designed for critical aquarium dosing and is so quiet you can use it in your living room. Superior three-roller direct-motor drive eliminates noisy gears and improves flow accuracy and tubing life. It can be run dry without damage.
Features: · Quietest Pump on the Market · Highest Quality and Incomparable Accuracy · Fully automatic operation - Set it and forget it · Auto-Calibration feature eliminates guesswork · Dependable and virtually maintenance free · No check valves to clog or seals to leak · Self-Priming and Anti-Siphoning · Compact Size and Cool Operation · Five year limited warranty · Can be powered directly from a 12VDC battery · Service Interval Timer for each pump
Specifications: · Internal Pump Flow Rate: approx. 250 ml/min. (8.45 oz./min.) · Dimensions: 7.5” x 3.7” x 2.2” (19 cm. x 9.4 cm. x 5.6 cm.) · Minimum Daily Total: 50 milliliters (1.7 oz.) · Maximum Daily Total: 99 liters (26 gals.) · Draw height: up to 25 feet · Delivery Height: up to 60 feet · Doses equal amounts 150 times per day · 120VAC (60 Hz) / 12 VAC wall-mounted power supply · International power supply available: 220 VAC (50 Hz)

Single Tank Liquid Level Replenisher • For automatic replenishment of evaporated liquid and liquid level control on single tanks, sumps or reservoirs • Safe low-voltage operation • Automatically turns off in the event of a power failure • Longer membrane and filter life • 5 feet of Remote Sensor Tubing provided (custom lengths available) • Additional switched 24 volts AC outlet for controlling booster pump or other 24 volts AC operated devices • Safety backup float SpectraPure® Single Tank Liquid Replenishers are the most advanced means of controlling liquid levels on single reservoirs andis ideal for replenishing evaporated water in aquariums or liquids in other constant level containers. An on-board air pressure activated electrical switch opens a solenoid valve when the liquid level drops approximately 1” and closes it when the liquid level rises back to its original level. Research at SpectraPure® shows that the Single Tank Liquid Replenisher provides a significant advantage over conventional float and back-pressure activated automatic shut-off valves by maximizing the duration of membrane operation. This minimizes the build up of impurities due to membrane creep (the small amount of impure water that is a Vcharacteristic of the membrane at the onset of pure water production). All wetted components are constructed of inert and salt-water safe materials. Power is provided by a plug-in 24 volts AC (UL listed and CSA approved) transformer. The single reservoir model comes with the controller which includes a switched 24 volts AC outlet for controlling a booster pump or other 24 volts AC operated devices, compression fittings and 5 feet of tubing for remote mounting of the sensor. Delivery, Booster, & Permeate Pumps Delivery Pump
SpectraPure® Delivery Pumps are used to transfer water from a storage tank to a remote location such as an aquarium, hydroponic system, coffee-maker, refrigerator, ice-maker or greenhouse misting system. The pump is controlled by a built-in pressure-sensing demand switch. When a faucet or valve is opened downstream from the pump, the line pressure drops and the pump automatically starts. Conversely, when the valve closes, the line pressure will increase, turning off the pump automatically. The use of a bladder tank is recommended to prevent excessive cycling of the delivery pump.

Booster Pump Kits are available for manual use, automatic filling of reservoirs or sumps and for use on RO systems using pressurized holding tanks. The Manual Operated Booster Pump Kits can be used on RO or RO/DI Systems with existing liquid level controllers with the addition of a patch cord (BP-PATCH on this page). The kit includes transformers for use on 115 volts AC/60 Hz or 230 volts AC/50 Hz. The transformer for the 230 volts AC/50 Hz supply has a two pin European plug. Use low-flow booster pump kits for systems up to 25 gpd and high flow booster pump kits for systems up to 100 gpd. A pressure gauge is necessary to monitor the booster pump pressure. If your system does not have a pressure gauge, purchase a Pressure Gauge Kit. If the transformer cord is not long enough, you can purchase the Patch Cord Assembly.
