How to restore Windows XP files
The Windows XP backup program, NTBackup, created xxx.BKF files Windows 7 Backup cannot handle .BKF files Download and run this special utility if you need to restore files created by the NTBackup program
There is no Windows 7 utility that will create .BKF files, but you can create them using XP Mode 4/16/2016

Windows 7 Backup Problems
Limitation: You cannot restore individual folders or files from a system image backup (as you can with Norton Ghost and Acronis TrueImage) People get into problems with it when they try to manage the files on their external hard drives – it does not work as NTBackup did and there are multiple files created each time Please comment on your experiences with Windows 7 Backup

Recommendations
Create the system image backup and burn the system recovery disc the first time you use Windows 7 Backup Create a new system image whenever you make a significant change to your system or install new applications, service packs, drivers, etc. Dedicate one or more external hard drives for nothing but backups Rotate backup hard drives offsite Remember: It’s better to have a backup you don’t need than to need a backup you don’t have!
