NOTE: • Always use Acura Long-Life Antifreeze/Coolant Type 2. Using a non-Acura coolant can result in corrosion, causing the cooling system to malfunction or fail. • To avoid burning out the element, do not operate the engine block heater until it is installed in the vehicle and you have added coolant. 1.
Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.

Allow the engine and all cooling system components to cool down.

Place a clean drain pan under the radiator drain plug, then remove the drain plug from the bottom of the radiator to drain the coolant. Remove the radiator cap to increase the flow.
NOTICE: Radiator coolant will damage the paint. Quickly rinse any spilled coolant from the paint. 5.

Drain the coolant completely, then reinstall the radiator cap.

Remove the front bumper:

Attach tape to the areas shown on each side.
•
Wrap a shop towel around the hood latch.
Remove the grille cover (two retaining tabs and seven clips).

Remove 2 self-tapping screws, 12 long clips, and 2 short clips.

Release three retaining tabs on each side.
•
With the help of an assistant, remove the front bumper (unplug the vehicle connectors and release two pins). Place the front bumper on a blanket to prevent damage.

Remove the left air induction plate (two clips).

Remove the intake air duct (one clip).
11. Remove the battery (three clips, two nuts, battery holder, battery cover, and battery tray).

Open the positive cable cover and disconnect the positive cable from the battery. POSITIVE CABLE COVER

10. Disconnect the negative cable from the terminal (one nut).

12. Get the heater harness. Using a tape measure, mark the heater harness at the measurements , , and . 200 mm (7.9 in.)

14. Unplug the vehicle connectors. RADIATOR

13. Install one wire tie with clip to the heater harness at the measurement .
15. Locate and remove the drain bolt and washer. Coolant remaining in the engine jackets flows out of the hole when the bolt is removed. Retain the bolt; it will be used if the block heater is removed. NOTE: Use a new washer if the drain bolt is reinstalled.

16. Install the engine block heater with the aluminum washer into the bolt hole using a 24 mm socket and a torque wrench. Torque the engine block heater to 80 N·m (8.2 kgf·m, 59 lbf·ft).
19. Route the heater harness in the direction shown, and align point on the heater harness with the vehicle clip. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness with one wire tie. VEHICLE BRACKET

17. Re-plug the vehicle connectors unplugged in step 14.
20. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle bracket with one wire tie with clip installed in step 13.
18. Plug the heater harness connector into the engine block heater. Make sure the heater harness connector is fully seated in the engine block heater.
21. Route the heater harness toward the fan shroud, and secure the heater harness to the fan shroud rib with one black wire tie at the point .

22. Route the heater harness across the fan shroud, and secure the heater harness to the fan shroud ribs with three black wire ties.
24. Secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness with two black wire ties. LEFT HEADLIGHT

23. Route the heater harness through the front bulkhead, and secure the heater harness to the vehicle harness with one black wire tie.

25. Reinstall the left air induction plate. NOTE: Make sure that the left air induction plate is properly installed.

26. Route the heater harness down under the bumper beam, and secure the heater harness to the left air induction plate hole with one black wire tie at the point .
28. Secure the heater harness to the left air induction plate holes with two black wire ties. 2 BLACK WIRE TIES

27. Bundle up the heater harness and secure it to the vehicle harness with one black wire tie.
29. With the help of an assistant, bring the front bumper close to the vehicle. Route the heater harness through the front lower grille, then reinstall the front bumper.

30. Secure the heater harness to the front lower grille with one black wire tie.
32. Reinstall all removed parts. 33. Reinstall the radiator drain plug. 34. Remove the radiator cap and fill the system with the recommended coolant. Follow the instructions in the Service Manual to fill the cooling system and check for leaks. Particularly check that there is no leak around the engine block heater.

35. Make sure that the heater harness is routed properly and all connectors are plugged in. 36. Reinstall the radiator cap. 37. Put the drain bolt (removed in step 15) in the glove box. 38. Reconnect the negative cable to the battery.

39. Press and hold the radio power button for two seconds to restore radio and navi (if equipped) system functions. 40. Reset the clock.

31. Attach the protective cap to the front lower grille, and plug the heater harness connector into the protective cap.
