Please make use of the recycling facilities in your flat. Bins will be emptied on a weekly basis. Please do not place rubbish in the stairwells. Check In Check in time is 3pm. Check Out Check out time is 10.00am. Please put all flat keys in the envelope provided and drop through the flat letterbox on your departure. Late check outs may be chargeable. Car Parking Complementary car parking is provided on a first come first serve basis. A £10.00 refundable deposit is required for the car park key. Parking spaces are limited and we ask that you are considerate to our neighbours and refrain from parking in any other space other than those designated to Edinburgh Napier University. Please ensure you park responsibly and are aware of parking regulations in the city centre. Cleaning The flat will be cleaned prior to your arrival and as per the terms of your agreement. If you require additional cleaning during your stay this can be organised at an additional cost. Extractor Fans Please use the kitchen extractor fan when cooking to prevent accidental activation of the fire alarm system. This can be switched on at the wall. If the extractor fan is not working please contact the Vacation Lettings Assistant. Fire Alarm Please study the fire evacuation plan on the back of your bedroom door. Should the alarm sound, please exit the building and make your way to the assembly point. The Fire Brigade will attend all activations of the alarm system and will ensure all guests have evacuated. Please be advised that you do not need to evacuate during weekly pre-planned evacuations. Details of scheduled evacuations are on the communal notice boards. Smoking in the flats is strictly forbidden. Fire blanket The fire blanket is located within the kitchen. Full instructions for use can be found on the casing of the blanket. Please read instructions carefully. 2 If you ever have to use the fire blanket, it will need to be replaced so contact the Vacation Letting Assistant for a replacement. Fire extinguisher Each flat is fitted with a dry powder fire extinguisher to be used in emergencies only. Please contact your Vacation Letting Assistant for a replacement if required. Fridge/Freezer If your fridge seems too warm, adjust the temperature dial and leave for a few hours to see if the temperature changes. Check that the freezer compartment is defrosted as this can affect the operation of the fridge and freezer. If the temperature is still too high, please report to the Property & Facilities Helpdesk or the Vacation Lettings Assistant. Heating Set your heater to operate on background heating to maximise energy efficiency. Set the input dial to maximum and the output dial to 1 or 2. If you are cold turn the output dial up to increase the heat. Only if you are still cold should you use the boost facility, the orange light will come on if you use the boost. When you put the background heating on for the first time, it will take 24 hours to produce any heat; this will build up the stored heat throughout the night. For instant heat, use the boost facility. If you are turning your heater off, it will retain heat for several hours due to the internal mechanisms so will not get cold instantly. Do not dry clothes on the room storage heaters. If there is no heat output from your heater, please check it is switched on and that all fuses are turned to the “on” position on the fuse board. If there is still no heat, please report immediately to the Vacation Lettings Assistant. Hob / Oven You need to switch the oven on at the wall prior to use. If there is no heat or the cooker is not working, please report immediately to the Vacation Lettings Assistant. Please use the extractor hood if your cooker has one or the extractor fan in your kitchen when using the oven/hob. For your safety please switch off all electrical appliances at the wall after use. Intercom (Door entry system) Each flat has a secure entry system in place where your guests and visitors will have to buzz to be provided with access. You can then open the main block door for them from your flat, press the button on the intercom with the key symbol. You can also check who is at the door by pressing the speak button. Any faults with the intercom system should be reported directly to the Property & Facilities Helpdesk or Vacation Letting Assistant for repair. Please do not let anyone into the building you do not know and if in doubt, please ask to see ID. Internet Wi-Fi is available throughout the flats. Connect your device to the Keysurf network and follow the onscreen instructions. Keys You will be issued with a key for the duration of your stay. Please ensure this is handed back to us when you leave. For lost keys between 0845 and 1830 Monday to Sunday, contact the office on 07771 816 018 to arrange a replacement key. After 1830 please contact Security on 0131 455 6119. They will give you access to your flat/bedroom but will not be able to give you a replacement key. You can get a new key from the vacation lets team. A replacement key will cost £25.00. Lock out If you lock yourself out of the flat and your key is inside, try to arrange for a fellow guest to provide you with access. During office hours you can contact the Vacation Lettings Assistant. Out with office hours contact Security who will provide access. Property & Facilities Helpdesk Please report all defects or repairs required in the flat to the Property & Facilities Helpdesk, unless otherwise stated. Their number is 0131 455 5000 or email [email protected]. Please give as much information as possible to ensure a complete repair can be made. Alternatively, please contact the Vacation Lettings Assistant who will report the fault/repair for you. Recycling There are two small black bins in your kitchen for sorting recycling. One is for paper and glass and the other is for packaging. Please make use of the recycling facilities where possible. Shower The shower takes water from the hot water tank so if the water is running cold, you may need to use the boost facility to heat the water. There will be a full tank of hot water each morning but there is not an unlimited supply of hot water throughout the day. If there is no hot water from the shower try using the boost for at least an hour. If there is still no hot water, please contact the Property & Facilities Helpdesk or Vacation Letting Assistant. Washing Machines Switch on washing machine at main socket on wall, select desired cycle and press start. Please do not over fill the trays with washing power as this can clog the washing machines. Water (hot) The flat is fitted with a cylinder of water that is heated throughout the night. In the morning there will be a full tank of hot water. The tank only holds a set amount of heated water so hot water is not unlimited. If you need to top up your hot water, you will need to turn on the boost switch in the kitchen. Press the “start” button to operate the boost. Leave for 30 minutes to an hour to heat the water and the boost will switch off automatically. Water for drinking Unless otherwise stated in the flats, the water from the cold taps in the kitchen is safe for drinking. Water from the taps in the bedrooms, shower rooms and toilets should be used only for bathing/washing on. Windows All windows are fitted with restrictors for your safety and the security of your personal belongings. They will also prevent any damage being caused by the windows being caught by the wind. Please do not remove the restrictors or open the windows further than the restrictor. Please keep windows closed if you are going out, especially if you are on the ground floor to prevent anyone gaining entry to your flat. Do not leave any valuables near an open window as opportunistic thieves may be operating near your flat. 3 WELCOME to Riego Street N Riego Street Sighthill Campus Merchiston and Craiglockhart Campuses Your local phone box is located on Home Street.
