RULES SUMMARY
1. Schedule All games are to be played at the time, date and place specified on the schedule.Start Time is forfeit time.
2. Forfeits Game time is forfeit time. a. If you know you may not be able to field a full team, please contact the opposing team captain (or a ASSC representative) at least four hours in advance; you should attend with as many people as you can and play pick up… it is the fun and polite thing to do.
b. Teams forfeiting more than two league games will not be eligible for the playoffs. Teams forfeiting three or more games will be asked to leave the league without refund.
3. Bowling is a fairly simple game, which may be the reason why so many like it; making it one of the most played recreational sports today. The rules surrounding the game are even simpler..
4. Attire: There is no real regulation apparel when bowling, except for the shoes. This is because the surface of the lane has to be protected for playing consistency. There are special shoes made for bowling and can be rented at the lanes or purchased at reputable sporting goods stores.
5. Ball: A regulation ball is no more than 27 inches in circumference and weighs between 10 and 16 pounds. Most balls have three finger holes for better grip, but it is not uncommon to see bowling balls that have just two holes.
6. Play: A bowler will need to complete a series of 10 frames to complete a game or “string”. The goal is to be able knock down the largest number of pins possible within a limited number of tries. i. The perfect game is scored at 300 points, meaning that the bowler was able to accomplish 12 consecutive strikes in the game.
7. Restrictions: When making an approach, the bowler must not step over the foul line. The foul line is located 60 feet before the head pin. A foul occurs when a ball leaves the bowlers hand passing over the foul line while any body part of the bowler touches the alley, gutters, and division boards beyond the foul line. i. If a foul is called, the throw is counted against the bowler and any pins that fell with that foul throw will be respotted.
8. Etiquette A. Do not take too much time in your approach. Take a few moments to concentrate but do not take an unnecessarily long time to do so. B. Be ready to bowl when it is your turn to avoid lags in playing. C. Only one bowler can play at a time. The rule of thumb, should there be any contention, is to allow the bowler on the right to go ahead. D. When not in play, stay out of sight and/or seated behind the bowler currently playing. This is to avoid distractions. Heckling and/or making unnecessary sounds at any time during a play is prohibited as well. i. You can now hit the lanes with more than just knowing how to knock pins down with a ball. You will develop a healthy dose of sportsmanship as well as patience and consideration for others and that’s always a good thing!

PLAYERS AND ROSTERS
1. Rosters: i. Each team can have up to 6 players on their roster. . No player will be allowed to participate without registering online at www.atlantasportandsocialclub.com , and signing the Atlanta Sport and Social Club waiver form. ii. All players must be paid in full by the start of the regular season. If a player has not paid their dues by this point they will not be allowed to play in any game until the have. Any replacement players added after registration has closed must pay at time of registration a prorated rate or they will not be placed on the schedule. iii. Players cannot transfer fees from one player to another. If a player decide to not play after paying his dues due to whatever reason, or cannot finish a season due to injury, said player must contact ASSC and inform them of their intent. Also be aware of the ASSC refund policy when doing this
2. Waivers: In order to participate in the league, each player must sign the team waiver. This is done during the online registration process. Any player not agreeing to the waiver will not be allowed to play in any ASSC league. i. ASSC keeps all waivers on file electronically at their main office. If a player wishes to view a hard copy of the waiver they can do so at the Atlanta Sport and Social Club main offices located at 1986 Hosea L. Williams Drive, Suite B, Atlanta, GA 30317 4. Player Restrictions: i. All ASSC participants must be at least 21 years old before the season starts. ii. Atlanta Sport and Social Club reserve the right to request ID from any player to determine league status. iii. Any player found on a team that is not registered with ASSC as either an individual or as a team member will cause that team to forfeit the game in which they are about to play or are currently playing. iv. If more than one player on a team is determined to be a nonregistered player, ASSC reserves the right to remove that team from the current league with no refunds. v. Players may only play for one team and be on one roster in any given night, regardless if multiple divisions are offered. One can play, for example, softball on Tuesdays & softball on Thursdays, but not for two teams in the same day or night. Any player that violates this rule will cause both of their teams to forfeit games played on that day. a. The only exception is when a player is picked up to help a team play a scrimmage in conjunction with a forfeited game.

GAME RULES
1. The Lane and Equipment: The playing surface is a lane, 60 feet long from the foul line to the head pin 42 inches wide. On either side of the lane are gutters; if the ball goes off the edge of the lane, it will drop into the gutter and be carried past the pins. The approach is an area 15 feet long, ending at the foul line. The bowler, in making the approach, must not step over the line; 60 feet beyond it is the headpin. a. The pins are arranged in four rows, with one pin in the first row, two in the second, three in

the third, and four in the fourth. They are numbered 110; the pins themselves don't carry specific numbers, but the spots on which they are placed do. i. The regulation pin is made of hard maple; it is 15 inches high and has a diameter of 2 ¼ inches at the base and a circumference of 15 inches at its widest point. Weight must be between 3 pounds, 6 ounces and 3 pounds, 10 ounces. The regulation ball is of solid composition, has a circumference of no more than 27 inches, and weighs 10 to 16 pounds. A ball may have two or three finger holes; most bowlers use the threeholed ball, inserting the two middle fingers and the thumb into the holes. b. Bowling in ordinary shoes isn't permitted, because it can damage the lanes. The peculiarities of the sport demand an unmatched pair of shoes. The righthanded bowler wears a left shoe with a relatively slippery sole, usually of hard leather or vinyl, and a right shoe with a rubber sole that will help "brake."
2. Progress of Play: A game is made up of 10 frames. Each frame represents one turn for the bowler, and in each turn the player is allowed to roll the ball twice. a. If the player knocks down all the pins with the first roll, it is a strike; if not, a second roll at the pins still standing is attempted. If all the pins are knocked down with two balls, it is a spare; if any pins are left standing, it is an "open frame." i. If a bowler commits a foul, by stepping over the foul line during delivery, it counts as a shot, and any pins knocked down are respotted without counting. If pins are knocked down by a ball that has entered the gutter, or by a ball bouncing off the rear cushion, they do not count, and are respotted.
3. Scoring: In an open frame, a bowler simply gets credit for the number of pins knocked down. In the case of a spare, a slash mark is recorded in a small square in the upper righthand corner of that frame on the score sheet, and no score is entered until the first ball of the next frame is rolled. a. Then credit is given for 10 plus the number of pins knocked down with that next ball. For example, a player rolls a spare in the first frame; with the first ball of the second frame, the player knocks down seven pins. The first frame, then, gets 17 points. If two of the remaining three pins get knocked down, 9 pins are added, for a total of 26 in the second frame.
b. If a bowler gets a strike, it is recorded with an X in the small square, the score being 10 plus the total number of pins knocked down in the next two rolls. Thus, the bowler who rolls three strikes in a row in the first three frames gets credit for 30 points in the first frame.
c. Bowling's perfect score, a 300 game, represents 12 strikes in a rowa total of 120 pins knocked down. Why 12 strikes, instead of 10? Because, if a bowler gets a strike in the last frame, the score for that frame can't be recorded before rolling twice more. Similarly, if a bowler rolls a spare in the last frame, one more roll is required before the final score can be tallied.
4. Lane Etiquette i. the same time. ii. iii. iv. v. vi. vii. viii.
Wait for the bowler to your right to deliver his/her ball if you're both bowling at about Remain behind your fellow bowler while he/she is bowling. Confine your bowling to your own lane. Observe the foul line, even in casual play. Play fair. Never bowl in street shoes. Avoid using someone else's ball without permission. Limit swearing and bad language as much as possible. Be ready when it's your turn.
