ARMOR UP FOR YOUR NEXT ADVENTURE! 6530 Federal Blvd. Lemon Grove, CA 91945 | 1(844)726-3373, ext. 102 [email protected] | www.pelfreybilt.com 2016+ Toyota Tacoma Front Plate Bumper Start by removing the factory bumper. First the grille should be removed by pulling the plastic clips at the top of the grille and removing the two screws. The grill should pull out toward the front of the truck. Detach the fender flares form the bumper, there are clips inside each flare. The bumper has several bolts and clips at the bottom and in the wheel wells, be sure all clips and bolts are removed and the bumper will pop out toward the front. There are black “hubs” on either side of the fenders that the bumper clicks into, they should also be removed. Cutting the factory bumper: Lay out tape to make a cut line based on the area near the fog lights, just above the fog lights there are a couple small tabs to be cut, you can follow that line around the front of the bumper to wheel wells. It is a good idea to cut the last part near the wheel well a bit lower to avoid cutting the last screw attachment point. The cutting can be done with a cutoff wheel or similar. Be sure to wear safety glasses while cutting. 1|Page 2|Page Next step is to remove the factory aluminum crash bumper, it is held on by 6 nuts, 3 on each side. Save the nuts, they will be reused. The crash bumper is often a press fit onto the studs and will require using rubber mallet or dead blow to push the bumper off. Remove the factory tow hook that is on the passenger side of the truck, bolted to bottom of cross-member. The tow hook that is permanently welded on the driver’s side will stay. Factory skid plates may need tabs trimmed for installation. Before mounting all of your accessories onto the bumper it is a good idea to do a test fit. With two people minimum, carefully lift the bumper up onto the studs, use caution not to hit the fenders with the bumper. 3 people are ideal, 2 to lift and one to start the nuts on the studs. Check alignment, the bumper can be raised and lowered to fit each different truck. The tilt of the bumper can be manipulated if needed by placing washers on the studs, either top or bottom depending on needs. It is a good idea to leave approx. ½” gap from fenders to allow for body flex. Once test fit is done remove the bumper and mount accessories. The winch control solenoid may fit on the winch mounting area depending on the size of the winch being used. Drilling mounting holes to match your winch solenoid will be required if you are mounting solenoid in the winch mount area. Larger motor winches will 3|Page require that the solenoid be mounted either behind the grill on the center support or in the engine bay. Mounting in the engine bay will require extending the cables but is a great option for a clean finished mount. Once all accessories are mounted you can re-install the bumper as you did during the test fit. The bumper will be much heavier at this point, lift with caution. Place nuts on the studs and leave loose. Lift the bumper to the desired height and tighten down the nuts. Next step is to remove the sway bar brackets if using a sway bar and attach the gusseted backing plates. The factory bolts for the sway bar will be re-used. Place the backing plate under the sway bar mount and replace the sway bar bolts. The supplied bracket should be on the frame, if you have a sway bar relocation bracket it will go on after the supplied bracket. Feed the supplied 3/8” grade 8 bolt through the bumper and thru the cross-member, through the backing plate. Add the 3/8”washers and nuts and tighten. Finish attaching all wires and routing them out of sight and securing them. The factory fender well liners will need to be tucked and or cut to your preference. Some people may choose to remove liners completely, removing completely will expose the intake area and should be so considered. There is a small attachment D-ring inside the bumper on the driver’s side for attaching your winch cable so it is out of harm’s way. For vehicles equipped with auxiliary power steering cooler, the coolant line needs to be relocated (all hardware included). See instructions on next page for installation: 4|Page 2016+ Toyota Tacoma Cooler Relocation Bracket Kit With the bumper removed you can easily access all the needed areas. The two front mounts for the powder steering cooler will be removed and reversed to allow for the cooler to be moved back to clear the new bumper or winch mount. The mount on the frame will also be removed and moved back to allow the hard lines to move back along with the cooler. There are 3 supplied brackets. 2 flat studded brackets and 1 bent bracket. The first step is to remove all 3 of the factory mounts allowing the cooler to be loose. The shorter flat bracket will mount up inside the frame allowing the hard lines to be moved back. The easiest way to access the area if from the front passenger side wheel well, pictured below. You are simply unscrewing the existing bracket and placing the new bracket in its place with the stud to the rear, this allows you to reattach the factory bracket back appx. 1.5” Hard line relocation bracket. Attaches using factory hardware and supplied Nylock nut The second two brackets go to the front, the flat longer bracket to the passenger side and the bent bracket to the driver’s side. You will be reattaching the factory brackets to the relocation brackets. They will be rotated to the rear to allow the cooler to be located back farther. Passenger side bracket.
