Welcome to Hickory! Greetings from Hickory, The Hickory Metro Convention Center is known for its cheerful hospitality, top-notch customer service, affordable rates, excellent food, and its prime location. The convention center is home to many events and conventions including state association and corporate meetings, training seminars, religious retreats and conferences, public shows, and sporting events. A great benefit of our center is that whether your event is for 50 people or more than 2,000 people, we can accommodate your group. Another plus is that we have more than 1,500 hotel rooms to fit everyone’s needs, and several hotels are just a few steps away from the convention center. I am proud of the entire team at the convention center and visitors bureau and two people who grew up in the Hickory area, just like me, will personally help you plan your event. Our Director of Sales, Sarah Davis, has been on the Hickory team since 2014 after working in a larger North Carolina city in hospitality. She is a graduate of Appalachian State University and a Certified Meeting Professional who has a magnetic personality, is full of creativity and assists groups with hotel rates, off-site training locations, and outings for visitors. Our Director of Events, Amber Howard, has been on the Hickory team since 2006, and is a graduate of East Carolina University. She is energetic, detail-oriented and assists clients in designing the layout for their meeting. Liazzo’s Catering has been the exclusive caterer of the Hickory Metro Convention Center since 2010, and is one of the many reasons that groups continue to come back to Hickory year after year. Liazzo’s can accommodate groups of all sizes, from small board meetings to events with more than 2,000 attendees. An industrial sized, well-equipped kitchen located inside the Hickory Metro Convention Center helps Liazzo’s provide top service and quality food to their customers. Owners Tammy Proctor and Jessica Fryer.
The catering menu includes every type of meal to meet your group’s needs. Liazzo’s works to accommodate all customers’ requests in the event you have needs beyond the traditional menus. Catered meals can be served plated or buffet style, and Liazzo’s is extremely helpful when it comes to providing meals to individuals with food allergies, or that have special dietary needs. Catering services include food preparation and service, tables, chairs, linens, dishware, as well as decorations for food tables. About Liazzo’s Catering It began as a catering company located in the Viewmont area of Hickory in 1999, and immediately became one of the most well-known caterers in the Hickory Metro area. The company also serves as the exclusive caterer for the Hickory Metro Convention Center, and provides meals for several large corporations in the area. Liazzo’s has been in a couple of locations in the Viewmont area, and since the fall of 2016, it’s storefront is located in the heart of Hickory’s Viewmont Business District on NC Highway 127. Liazzo’s Catering storefront location specializes in large groups, weddings, corporate functions, reunions, and private parties. Liazzo’s is locally owned and operated by a mother-daughter team, Tammy Proctor and Jessica Fryer. In addition to the dynamic duo, Liazzo’s has three chefs, more than 10 full-time employees, and dozens of part-time staff. The team offers wonderful catering services, high-quality food, and beautiful presentations that has attributed to almost 20 great years of catering for Hickory and the surrounding areas.

Hickory Metro Convention Center More than 100,000 square ft. facility, with free parking and Wi-Fi and many more perks. Sporting events held at the convention center include: US Regional and NC gymnastic competitions, cheer and dance competitions, martial arts tournaments, wrestling, weightlifting, powerlifting, and many more.
Henry Fork River Regional Park Home to many soccer, lacrosse, and bocce tournaments. There are 8 soccer fields (5 lighted) that can be multi-use fields with an 8,000 square ft. picnic area with concessions, restrooms, and plenty of parking. This park also has walking trails, a canoe and kayak launch area, and an alpine tower for climbing and leadership training.
Highland Recreation Center/Stanford Park There are 3 – 300 ft. lighted softball/baseball fields, 3 – 94 ft. by 50 ft. indoor basketball courts, indoor and outdoor restrooms, indoor and outdoor concessions, 4 indoor pickleball courts, 1 outdoor
basketball court, outdoor picnic area, 2 outside playgrounds, 1 inside playground, paved walking trail and an outdoor skate park.
Kiwanis Park There are 4 youth baseball/softball fields, all with 210 ft. fences, a concession stand, restrooms, Zahra Baker All-Children’s Playground and splash pad.
LP Frans Stadium at Winkler Park L.P. Frans Stadium is home to the Hickory Crawdads, the Single A Affiliate of the Texas Rangers. The stadium seats about 4,000 fans and has hosted the South Atlantic League Finals 3 times, in 2002, 2004 and again in 2015. L.P. Frans Stadium has also played host to the 1994, 2001, and 2014 SAL all-star games. L.P. Frans Stadium underwent major renovations after the 2013 season and now boasts a new VIP section, Picnic Pavilion, 3 outdoor Party Patios, and completely renovated suites and Crawdads Cafe. The Hickory Crawdads are in their 25th season and play April – September on one of the best fields in one of the finest stadiums in the country.
