THE MOST VERSATILE RUV NOW EVEN BETTER The greatest strength of the Teryx comes from its fantastic versatility. Its off-road and sport capabilities are superbly balanced by class-leading comfort and great utility performance. Add to that excellent durability and quality, and you have a package that meets the demands of a variety of riders and offers a wider range of "fun" than other models in its category. Whether you want to tear up the trails, tackle a tricky technical course, or just work around the farm, this tough and sporty-looking, dependable utility sports model is your partner of choice.
HIGH PERFORMANCE BACKED BY SOLID CONSTRUCTION With a powerful V-Twin engine mounted in a highly stable chassis, the Teryx has everything it needs to offer sporty off-road fun for one to two people. Kawasaki’s famous reliability gives drivers the reassurance and peace of mind of knowing that both the engine and frame were built to last.
Powerful V-Twin engine Like its predecessor, the V-Twin engine of 2016 Teryx offers a combination of strong power and torque at all rpm, with an easy-to-control character that accommodates a wide range of riders. Powerful, liquid-cooled, 783 cc SOHC, 4-valve-percylinder fuel-injected V-Twin engine churns out a substantial 43 kW (58 PS). Ample torque output contributes to the Teryx's superb acceleration. Oversquare bore and stroke measures 85 x 69 mm. Compression ratio of 10.7:1, is ideal for the long stroke. The high compression ratio contributes to increased combustion efficiency, which in turn contributes to the increased power. The 90o V-Twin configuration offers perfect primary balance, resulting in low engine vibration. Taking into account coolant temperature, air intake temperature, throttle position, air intake pressure, vehicle speed and crankshaft angle, the fuel injection system (which uses 36 mm throttle bodies and a 32-bit CPU) automatically meters out the ideal amount of fuel for extremely stable power delivery – regardless of the conditions. And of course, setting adjustments are not necessary when changing altitude, idling adjustments are unnecessary, and starting is hassle-free. With fuel injection fuel delivery is instantaneous, contributing to sharp response ideal for sport riding. A high-pressure fuel pump is located inside the tank. A unique reservoir chamber at the bottom of the fuel pump ensures air does not get into the fuel system. Large-volume intake chamber (10.4 L) ensures the engine has plenty air when drivers stomp on the accelerator. Crank mass contributes to stable idling, easy starting and increased engine speed stability when the centrifugal clutch engages. Fine-atomising injectors (with a droplet size of 75 μm) and NGK CPR7EA-9 spark plugs contribute to efficient combustion and engine response (to both minute throttle changes and snapped open throttle). Throttle body holder design minimises the chance of fuel collecting in the intake tract. The smooth flow of the fuel-air mixture contributes to efficient combustion and precise engine response. The exhaust system is optimised for power and to suit the engine's power characteristics. Length, layout and joint position were all carefully considered – most evident by the rear cylinder head. Revised silencer internal construction offers an enhanced exhaust note.
Highly Stable Chassis Design To harness the full potential of its mighty V-Twin engine, the Teryx features a stable wide-body chassis. The wide track contributes to enhanced vehicle stability. Using the same long A-arm concept seen on sport ATVs, the frame was made as narrow as possible to maximise the length of the front and rear suspension's lower A-arms, contributing to excellent road-handling performance. Mid-engine layout places the engine close to the chassis' centre of gravity, offering numerous benefits for sporty handling.
Well-balanced front-rear weight distribution (50:50) contributes to sport driving potential. Positioning the chassis' centre of gravity as low as possible contributes to the Teryx's great stability. Handling characteristics incorporate a certain amount of understeer, contributing to high cornering stability under certain surface conditions.
CVT Transmission & Centrifugal Clutch: Acceleration Control & Stable Engine Braking Complementing the direct engine feel and quick response inherent with its V-Twin engine characterCVT combination (ideal for hard riding), the Teryx's centrifugal clutch is the key to its superior acceleration control at slow and very slow speeds. By eliminating the shock of the CVT belt engaging, the centrifugal clutch facilitates precise throttle control when navigating tricky terrain. The centrifugal clutch is located between the crankshaft and CVT drive pulley. This position allows it to eliminate the shock of the CVT belt engaging, which promotes precise throttle control when navigating tricky terrain. (Reduced stress to the highgrade CVT belt also increases belt life, and means that belt deflection adjustment is no longer necessary.) With the centrifugal clutch, the Teryx offers a balance of the direct engine feel and quick response inherent with the engine character-CVT combination (ideal for hard riding) and smooth low-speed acceleration (essential for control in tricky terrain). CVT and transmission ratios were selected to offer optimum ride feel while ensuring stable engine braking characteristics. The engine braking offers reassuring support when rolling down steep inclines. NEW
New CVT belt and driven unit offer increased belt life. Change from a straight-type to spiral-type bevel gear reduces operation noise.
Electrically Selectable 4WD & Front Differential Lock Electrically "selectable" 2WD/4WD/4WD+Front Differential Lock system allows easy changing between drive systems to suit changing terrain and applications. 2WD: offers light steering for maximum sport performance 4WD: offers enhanced traction while keeping steering light 4WD + differential lock: offers maximum traction
Once the switch is turned, the system engages instantly, ensuring the rider has full control of when 4WD or the front differential lock is activated. Locking the front differential causes the front wheels to act as a single axle, (preventing wheels from free spinning in low traction situations or when a wheel is suspended in the air ensuring maximum traction when driving over tricky obstacles).
Off-road Brake Performance The combination of high-performance disc brakes at the front and a sealed wet brake at the rear offers formidable braking power – an essential component for hard riding. Using two independent systems also ensures reliable braking performance is maintained even in wet or muddy conditions. Dual 200 mm front brakes gripped by 27 mm twin-piston calipers provide solid stopping power at the front. The discs are recessed in the wheels to provide protection from debris, while the rigidmount calipers deliver superior brake feel and control. Steelbraided lines provide direct brake feel and help prevent brake fade in hot conditions. At the rear, the Teryx features Kawasaki's unique sealed, internal wet brake. Internal components are completely sealed from mud and dust, etc, ensuring uncompromised rear braking performance. The compact size contributes to a favourable ground clearance.
Large 26" Tyres The Teryx sports some of the largest tyres available in the RUV category. Its 12" rims and 26" MAXXIS Bighorn 2.0 tyres, more easily able to overcome obstacles than smaller tyres, contribute to its excellent rough road handling. The change to radial tyres offers high rigidity, and the tyres' enhanced grip helps maximise forward traction while offering excellent control characteristics for aggressive cornering.
Favourable Off-roading Dimensions The Teryx's comparatively short wheelbase (2,180 mm) contributes to its short 5.1 m turning radius, which makes it easier to negotiate tight corners on trail courses. Combined with the Teryx's ground clearance (285 mm at chassis centre), the short wheelbase also o contributes to a more favourable breakover angle (15 ), which reduces the chance of bottoming out when cresting a ridge. o o High approach and departure angles (79 and 83 , respectively) also contribute to the Teryx's off-road performance. Minimising bodywork overhang reduces the chance of hitting the bumper or scraping the tail when going up or coming down steep slopes.
COMFORT & UTILITY Roomy Interior As a "full-size" RUV, the Teryx features a roomy interior that offers greater comfort than its smaller rivals. High-backed bucket seats from the Teryx4 hold passengers in place during hard riding, while providing comfortable seating during more leisurely riding. The Teryx offers the shoulder and legroom to comfortably accommodate two adult males. High-backed bucket seats from the Teryx4 offer improved ergonomics and support over the previous seats. The form-fitting seats and three-point seatbelts hold rider and passenger firmly in place during hard riding and offer good ride comfort at cruising speeds. Seats use different urethane cushioning for the bottom and back. Bottom urethane is firm to offer proper support and long-term comfort. Back urethane is softer. Seat material has superb elasticity, offering increased comfort and holding performance. The material is also resistant to cold, allowing it to maintain its suppleness when temperatures drop and reducing the chance of tearing/ripping when exposed to cold temperatures. Seats are adjustable, offering three possible positions with a total forward-rearward range of 50 mm (three positions at 25 mm intervals). The seats are bolted securely into the chosen position, ensuring there is no free play during hard off-road riding. Pole-style handgrip on the left and handgrip integrated into the ROPS bar contribute to comfort of the front passenger. Seatbelts are equipped with an anti-cinch system that prevents over-tightening when the belts lock on sudden deceleration or when the tilt-sensor is activated. Exhaust pipes are equipped with heat guards to help shield the cabin from exhaust heat. Noise-reduction rubber sheet under the centre console and padding on the inside of the seat side panels help keep engine noise to a minimum.
Standard Doors Teryx 4-style doors are a standard feature on all Teryx models, offering passenger protection as well as contributing to enhanced comfort and convenience. * Standard doors facilitate getting in and out of the vehicle. * The doors also offer a level of mud protection. * Simple latch mechanism facilitates opening and closing the doors.
High-performance FOX Suspension The Teryx's suspension settings were decided based on the design aim to offer a comfortable, stable ride, while ensuring controlled riding right up to the vehicle's maximum speed. Combined with the wide-track chassis and mid-engine layout, the new high-performance FOX suspension – designed specifically for the Teryx – enables sure-footed handling in rough terrain, superb cornering performance, and enhanced ride comfort and high-speed stability. High-performance, single-chamber gas-charged shocks offer excellent fade-resistant damping performance, even in hard conditions. Front and rear shocks on all models feature piggyback reservoirs. The extra volume of oil helps the shocks run cooler, enabling more stable damping performance under hard conditions. The new suspension offers improved initial stroke action (especially over sharp bumps). This contributes to increased high-speed stability as well as enhanced ride comfort. Both front and rear shocks are adjustable for compression damping as well as preload. Front suspension is complemented by an anti-roll bar. It contributes to an ideal front/rear roll balance as well as adding to rear ride comfort. It also helps achieve the steering character: slight understeer, which contributes to cornering stability.
EPS (Electric Power Steering) Kawasaki's high-grade electric power steering (EPS) offers both lighter handling and increased ride comfort. Turning the steering wheel causes a signal to be sent to the EPS ECU, initiating assistance. The ECU uses input from a vehicle speed sensor and torque sensor to determine the amount of steering assistance required from the system's electric motor. At slow speeds or when stopped, assistance is greatest; assistance is reduced as vehicle speed increases to ensure stable handling. The EPS system also enhances ride comfort and control by acting as a damping system. When steering input is neutral, the inertia of the electric motor acts as a stabiliser. Likewise, it helps reduce bump steer and kickback to the steering wheel caused by shocks to the wheels.
Versatile Cargo Bed With a 272 kg capacity and sizeable dimensions (700 mm L x 1,100 m, W 300 mm H), the Teryx's cargo bed offers substantial carrying capacity. Gas-assisted tilting cargo bed (a standard feature on all models) facilitates dumping cargo. The tailgate can be easily removed without tools to facilitate loading/ unloading cargo. The tailgate's blow-moulded design includes built-in cup holders (handy when the tailgate is down). The cargo bed's flat bottom helps make an efficient use of space, and also facilitates securing items being carried. The cargo bed liner is designed with slots that can accommodate DIY partitions, allowing cargo to be separated and stowed more securely. Made from no-break polypropylene, the bed liner offers high durability and long life. Rails have been added on top of the cargo bed sides. The 1" square pipes provide easy tie-down point for bungee hooks, and are compatible with the accessory Tool Mount System (brackets that allow toolbox or other items to be snap-mounted to the cargo bed rails). Four tie-down loops help secure items being transported in the cargo bed.
Grand Rear Storage The chassis affords extra space between the seats and cargo bed. This space is put to good use by the Grand Rear Storage: two large, sealed storage compartments that give the Teryx the greatest storage capacity in the RUV category. Two compartments between the seats and cargo bed offer a total of 182 litres of storage space. Since the compartments are sealed, they offer convenient water-resistant storage. The bodywork's side panels (aft of the doors) can be quickly removed (by undoing the quick fasteners) to facilitate access to the rear storage compartments. The compartments are positioned low, close to the Teryx's centre of gravity so that any additional load has a minimal effect on handling.
Tilt Steering NEW
Steering wheel has a stepless adjustability range of approximately 40o, allowing drivers to set its position to suit their preference, as well as lift it out of the way to facilitate getting in and out of the vehicle. Newly designed steering wheel (available on all models) is thicker where it is gripped, contributing to easier operation and comfort as well as a high-quality feel.
DURABILITY & QUALITY Superior Engine Durability Kawasaki's off-road V-Twin engines are renowned for their durability. No exception, the Teryx engine makes a number of special considerations for durability and cooling performance. V-Twin engine (especially the lower half and transmission) designed for long life. Piston pins feature a wall thickness of 3.5 mm for long durability. Additionally, the piston pins receive machining on their inner surface (to remove defects from the drawing process) and a WPC micro shot peening treatment on their outer surface. The resultant micro-dimpling on the surface helps reduce friction while increasing the strength of the part. Connecting rod big end design and big end bearings were designed especially for precise bearing clearance. Minimising friction contributes to durability. Similarly, crankshaft journal bearings (22 mm wide) were selected for optimised durability. Robust shift-drum type transmission with three shift forks offers smooth, precise shifting and high system durability. Tapered roller bearings to secure the bevel gear pinion contribute to durability. Phosphating treatment (parkerizing) for the ring gear teeth increases their hardness to help prevent wear. Large-volume radiator (400 mm x 358 mm x 24 mm) and large-diameter fan (338 mm) ensure adequate engine cooling. Paper air filter element contributes to dust resistance.
Sturdy Frame Construction The sturdy construction was designed using strength analysis technology to ensure minimum weight with maximum strength. The detailed analysis used during frame development results in an optimised frame design that uses hardly any gussets. Steel engine guards protect the engine from damage when traversing rough trails. The Teryx chassis allows a significant maximum payload: 503 kg. Like its engine, the Teryx's robust, highly rigid frame was also built to last. Strict testing and high Kawasaki standards for durability result in an over-spec frame designed to withstand hard conditions without being compromised. Double-X frame design delivers superb rigidity characteristics (especially torsionally). Robust frame contributes to both stability and sporty performance. Its square-tube construction offers high rigidity and light weight – a perfect base for off-road performance riding.
ROPS The Teryx features a Roll Over Protective Structure (ROPS). The ROPS frame is constructed from t1.6 mm steel tubing, offering both strength and light weight, and contributing to idealised chassis rigidity. The ROPS frame runs along the outside of the chassis perimeter, offering superior protection from obstacles like trees and reducing the chance of hang-ups. Shoulder bars built into the ROPS frame also help ensure that passengers are seated comfortably in the vehicle. Revised shoulder pad material (changed from urethane to rubber) offers both increased passenger protection and greater durability. The Teryx-specific design, especially the rear of the ROPS, contributes to the model's sporty looks.
Centre Console Handy tray located aft of the centre console offers a convenient space to secure small items (using a bungee net or other). Built-in hooks provide handy tie down points. NEW
Added Safety Feature The Teryx now features a speed limiter designed to prevent operation while not wearing a seatbelt. If the driver's seatbelt is not fastened, speed is limited to 24 km/h (15 mph). Further, by shifting fuel injection and ignition timing, a lurching effect that also discourages speeding up is created. (The limiter meets ANSI/ROHVA standards.)
NEW
Styling The completely restyled front end maintains the tough image of the previous model, while giving the 2016 Teryx a decidedly sportier appearance. Different colours selected for each grade of model, and a high attention to detail contribute to the vehicle's high-quality image. Front hood and headlamp design gives the Teryx a tough, sporty look that reflects its powerful character and strong off-road performance. Hood design incorporates raised elements that flow back from the headlamp housings, which are positioned closer to the front, contributing to the sporty new look. Beefy all-steel front bumper is a standard feature, offering protection to the front of the vehicle and contributing to the Teryx's tough, sporty image. Its position close to the body gives it a highly integrated look. New 3-tone seat leather (SIL x BLK x LIM) on the KRF800F/ G models adds to the sporty, high-quality image of these models. Seats on the KRF800F/G models feature a "Teryx" logo as an added quality touch.

• digital fuel gauge • hour meter • dual trip meters • front differential lock indicator light • water temperature warning indicator • neutral indicator light • oil pressure warning light
Seatbelt-use reminder lamp comes on for 10 seconds after the engine is started to remind the driver to buckle up. After 10 seconds, the lamp stays on if the driver's seatbelt is not fastened.
Range The 30 litre fuel tank offers the range to enable longer range between top ups or to easily allow campers and hunters to get deep into the bush and back without having to worry about refuelling.
DC Sockets Two DC sockets (one in the front, one in the rear) provide a total of 120 W of power for accessories or life's little necessities.
Glove Box Passenger-side glove box provides sealed storage for small items.
Drink Holders Drink holders (one each for the driver and passenger) provided standard. They are conveniently positioned forward of the centre console for easy access.
Parking Brake Pulling the convenient automobile-style parking brake lever activates the sealed rear wet brake to keep the Teryx from rolling away when stopped on a slope. ECU features a fuel injection cut control that limits engine speed should the driver attempt to ride away with the parking brake still engaged.
Ease of Maintenance The front hood opens, providing easy access to the front suspension, coolant reservoir, intake air filter and electrical equipment (ECU, battery, relays, breakers). Locating the air cleaner box and electrical equipment up high on the chassis also helps protect them from the effect of water, mud and dust when riding in rough conditions. The bottom cushion of the driver's seat is easily removable to allow access to the engine to check the oil level.
