The safety precautions enclosed herein reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and injury when correctly adhered to. Keep the manual in a safe place for future reference, along with the completed warranty card, purchase receipt and carton. Always follow basic safety precautions and accident prevention measures when using an electrical appliance, including the following: Electrical safety and cord handling • Voltage: Make sure your outlet voltage and circuit frequency correspond to the voltage stated on the appliance rating label. If it does not match, contact our after sales support line and do not use the appliance. • Connection: Insert the plug properly into an earthed mains socket. Make sure the socket is within easy reach so the plug can easily be removed if necessary. • Electrical circuit: To avoid an electrical circuit overload do not use a high wattage appliance on the same circuit with the slow cooker. • Do not immerse: To protect against electric shock, do not immerse the cord, plug or the electric base in water or other liquid. If the base is accidentally immersed, immediately unplug the power plug, dry the appliance and have it checked by qualified service personnel. • Protect from moisture: Do not expose the electrical connections to water. Do not use the appliance, or touch the plug, with wet or damp hands, on a damp floor or when the electric base is wet. • Power cord: A short power supply cord is provided to reduce the hazards resulting from becoming entangled in or tripping over a longer cord. However, if an extension cord must be used, make sure its marked electrical rating is the same as the product. Arrange the extended cord so it will not drape over the table or benchtop where it can be pulled on or tripped over accidentally. Do not kink, bend, squash, strain or damage the power cord and protect it from sharp edges and heat. Do not let the cord hang over the edge of a table or benchtop, or touch hot surfaces. • Damage: Check the power cord regularly for visible damage. If it is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its authorised service centres or similarly qualified personnel in order to avoid any hazards. Do not pick up or operate an appliance with a damaged cord or plug, or after the appliance malfunctions or has been dropped or damaged in any manner. In case of damage, call our after sales support line for advice on repair or return of the damaged product. After Sales Support Telephone: 1300 886 649 Email: [email protected] 3 General Safety Instructions (Cont.) • Unattended: Do not leave the appliance unattended when plugged in. • After use: Turn the control knob to OFF and unplug the appliance after use. Wait until it has cooled completely before attempting to move or clean it. • Disconnect: Always unplug the power cord when the appliance is not in use. When unplugging the appliance, grip by the plug, do not pull by the cord. • RCD: Unless your home is already fitted with a residual current device (safety switch), we recommend installing an RCD with a rated residual operating current not exceeding 30mA to provide additional safety protection when using electrical appliances. See your electrician for professional advice. Usage conditions and restrictions • Indoor domestic use only: This appliance is intended for indoor domestic use only. Ceramic pots and glass lid • Handle with care: The ceramic pots and glass lid are breakable. Handle with care. • Temperature changes: Avoid sudden, extreme temperature changes, such as adding refrigerated foods into a heated ceramic pot. Do not place a hot lid or ceramic pot into cold water, or onto a wet surface. • Do not subject to impacts: When washing up, take care not to hit the ceramic pot and glass lid against taps or other hard surfaces. • Damaged cookware: Do not use the lid or a ceramic pot if it is chipped, cracked or severely scratched. • Avoid harsh cleansers: Do not use abrasive cleansers or metal scouring pads. • Protect your benchtop: The bottom of the ceramic pots are rough and can cause damage to benchtop surfaces. Always use caution. The ceramic pots and the glass lid can become very hot. Always use caution. Do not place directly on any unprotected surface or benchtop. • Microwave use: The ceramic pots are microwave safe and ovenproof, but never heat the pots when empty. The glass lid is NOT microwave safe; never place the lid in a microwave oven, on a cooktop or in a heated oven. CAUTION: HOT! • Hot surfaces: Accessible surfaces (of the base, pot and lid) become very hot during use. Do not touch hot surfaces. Always use handles or knobs, and always use caution. • Hot contents: Extreme caution must be used when moving an appliance containing hot oil or other hot liquids. • Removing the lid: When removing the lid, tilt it so that the opening faces away from you to avoid being burned by steam. • Removing the ceramic pots: The sides of the base of the slow cooker get very warm because the heating elements are located here. Use the handles on the base, if necessary. Always use oven mitts when removing the ceramic pot. Food safety • WARNING: Food must be hot enough to prevent bacterial growth before using the keep warm (WARM) setting. Only use the keep warm setting after the food has been thoroughly cooked. Do not reheat food on the WARM setting. If food has been cooked and then refrigerated, reheat it on LOW or HIGH, then turn to WARM to keep it warm. After Sales Support Telephone: 1300 886 649 Email: [email protected] 9 Other Useful Information Slow cooking tips • For best results, fill the ceramic pot at least half-full but no more than 2.5cm from the rim. If only half-filled, check whether the food is cooked 1 to 2 hours earlier than recommended in the recipe • Stirring is not necessary when slow cooking. In fact, removing the glass lid results in major heat loss and the cooking time may need to be extended. However, if cooking on HIGH, stir occasionally. • For recipes that call for all day cooking, prepare the food the night before. Place ingredients in the ceramic pot, cover and refrigerate overnight. In the morning, place the ceramic pot on the electric base of the slow cooker and select the settings to cook. • Do not use frozen uncooked meat in the slow cooker. Thaw any meat or poultry before slow cooking. • Some foods are not suited for extended cooking in the slow cooker. Pasta, seafood, milk, cream, or sour cream should be added 2 hours before serving. Evaporated milk or condensed soups are perfect for the slow cooker. • The higher the fat content of the meat, the less liquid is needed. If cooking meat with a high fat content, place thick onion slices underneath so the meat will not sit on (and cook in) the fat. • Slow cookers allow for very little evaporation. If making your favourite soup, stew or sauce, reduce the liquid called for in the original recipe. If too thick, liquid can be added later. • If cooking a vegetable-type casserole, there will need to be liquid in the recipe to prevent scorching on the sides of the ceramic pot. • Foods will continue to increase in temperature after desired temperature has been reached. 10 After Sales Support Telephone: 1300 886 649 Email: [email protected] 1.5L Pot Recipes Chicken Breasts with Lemon and Rosemary Ingredients (serves 6) 2-3 chicken breasts (skin on, bone in), rinsed and patted dry Juice of 1 lemon 2-3 tbsp smoked paprika Salt and freshly ground pepper 3 sprigs fresh rosemary Method • Place chicken breasts in the 1.5L ceramic pot. • Pour lemon juice over the chicken breasts, sprinkle liberally with smoked paprika, salt and freshly ground pepper.
