Dayton Loudspeaker Co. ● PO Box 52 ● Springboro, Ohio 45066 Thank You for purchasing the #300-660 5.1 Home Theater System. The system provides stunning clarity and imaging and delivers superior sound for even the most exacting audio or home theater applications. It consists of (4) shielded cube speakers for the front and rear, (1) shielded center channel speaker, (1) powered subwoofer and 100' of wire. The cube speakers are made of a black high impact ABS cabinet and feature a “keyhole” slot and brass (metric M6) threaded insert, which allows for mounting on walls, ceilings, bookshelves or speaker stands. The compact sub utilizes a long throw 6-1/2" woofer and is finished in a non-obtrusive black veneer that will complement any decor. Speaker Placement The positioning of the speakers differs according to the size and acoustics of the listening room. While listening to different sources, try various speaker positions to determine which layout provides the best surround effect. See the speaker layout example. Front Speakers: Place the front speakers in front of the listening position, to the left and right of the TV. The speakers should be level or slightly higher than the height of the listener’s ears. Center Speaker: Place the center speaker between the front speakers and on top of or below the TV. This speaker reproduces most of the dialogue and improves imaging and depth of field in the movie soundtrack. Rear Speakers: Place these speakers to the left, right and slightly behind the listening position. They should be positioned above the height of the listener’s ears. Be careful not to place the speakers too far behind the listening position, as this will reduce their effectiveness. These speakers will reproduce most of the special effects and create a “surround sound” feel to the movie. Subwoofer: The Subwoofer will produce more apparent bass when it is placed in a corner. Choose a corner that is close to the component area and place it at the front of the listening area. The subwoofer should be positioned so the round port tube is facing into the room. The subwoofer adds impact and realism to movie soundtracks. Set the level to where the bass frequencies blend with the other speakers. Note: Most people have a tendency to set the level too high, which makes the audio sound “boomy”. System Hook-Up After you’ve chosen the approximate speaker locations, run wire to each location starting with the rear speakers because they will be your longest runs. Cut and strip the ends of each wire run to expose the conductors and connect the speakers following the system hoop-up example. Make sure the amplifier is turned off until all connections are made. While connecting the wires, make sure you observe proper polarity and that the speakers on the left side of the room are connected to the left or “L” connection and the right speakers to the right or “R” connection of the amplifier. Subwoofer Hook-Up A “Pro Logic” or “Dolby digital” receiver will have a single subwoofer LFE (low frequency effects) output jack. Using a RCA type cable (Not Included. We recommend part number #181-642), simply connect this output to the mono or left “white” line level input jack on the subwoofer amplifier. Power/Volume Control: This control turns on the amplifier and adjusts the output level of the subwoofer. The amplifier will automatically turn on when a signal is present. Set the level to where the bass frequencies blend with the other speakers. Note: Most people have a tendency to set the level too high which makes the audio sound “boomy”.
