NOTE: Reference numbers and letters in parentheses in the text refer to the callouts in the parts drawing on page 3. Read this entire manual before assembling the unit. WARNING Separate manuals are supplied with the components of your sprayer. Read and understand all instruction manuals before operating. Never exceed the Maximum Fluid Working Pressure and Maximum Air Input Pressure for these sprayers, given in the Technical Data on page 7. Never exceed the maximum working pressure of the lowest rated component in your system. Be sure that all fluids and solvents used are chemically compatible with the wetted parts shown in the Technical Data on page 7, and in the separate component manuals. WARNING If you are installing Kit 238–141 on a previously operated sprayer, be sure to follow the Pressure Relief Procedure in your separate pump manual before beginning the following procedure. 1. If you are installing the kit on a sprayer that has previously been operated, relieve the pressure.   2. Remove the nut and lockwasher (C) holding the air manifold (D) to the mounting bracket (E). Pull the manifold up off the bracket. 3. Remove the air manifold (D) from the pump air regulator (F). 4. Screw the tee (3) into the pump air regulator (F), as shown. Screw the air manifold (D) into the tee. Reinstall the air manifold on the mounting bracket (E) and secure with the lockwasher and nut (C). 5. Install the gauge (7) in the gun air regulator (6). Install the 1/2 npt nipple (5) in the regulator’s inlet port, and the reducing nipple (8) in the outlet port. 6. Install the 90 adapter (4) in the branch of the tee (3), and connect the gun air regulator nipple (5) to the swivel. Tighten securely. Use this air regulator to control air pressure to the gun. 7. Screw the gun swivel (12) onto one end of the fluid hose (10), then connect it to the gun (13) fluid inlet, as shown. Connect the air hose (9) to the gun air inlet. The hoses are tied together for ease of movement when spraying. 8. Connect the air hose (9) to the reducing nipple (8) at the gun air regulator outlet (A). 9. Connect the fluid hose (10) to the fluid filter outlet (B), using the reducing nipple (16). 10. Operate the sprayer as described in the separate sprayer, pump, and gun manuals. Installing Kit 235–853 Kit 235–853 converts Model 237–399, 224–619, and 224–617 airless sprayers to Model 237–405, 231–303, and 231–302 air-assisted airless sprayers. 2. Remove the nut and lockwasher (C) holding the air manifold (D) to the mounting bracket (E). Pull the manifold up off the bracket. NOTE: Reference numbers and letters in parentheses in the text refer to the callouts in the parts drawing on page 5. Read this entire manual before assembling the unit. 3. Remove the air manifold (D) from the pump air regulator (F). Disconnect the air hose (G) from the bleed valve (H). WARNING Separate manuals are supplied with the components of your sprayer. Read and understand all instruction manuals before operating. Never exceed the Maximum Fluid Working Pressure and Maximum Air Input Pressure for these sprayers, given in the Technical Data on page 7. Never exceed the maximum working pressure of the lowest rated component in your system. The relief valve (supplied) opens automatically to relieve air pressure to the pump if the pressure exceeds a preset level. This valve prevents overpressurization of the hose and gun. Be sure that all fluids and solvents used are chemically compatible with the wetted parts shown in the Technical Data on page 7, and in the separate component manuals. WARNING If you are installing Kit 235–853 on a previously operated sprayer, be sure to follow the Pressure Relief Procedure in your separate pump manual before beginning the following procedure. 1. If you are installing the kit on a sprayer that has previously been operated, relieve the pressure. 4 308-290 4. Screw a 1/2 npt nipple (5) into the bleed valve (H). Screw the tee (15) onto the nipple, and screw the relief valve (14) into the branch of the tee, as shown. Connect the air hose (G) to the tee (15). 5. Screw the tee (3) into the pump air regulator (F), as shown. Screw the air manifold (D) into the tee. Reinstall the air manifold on the mounting bracket (E) and secure with the lockwasher and nut (C). 6. Install the gauge (7) in the gun air regulator (6). Install the 1/2 npt nipple (5) in the regulator’s inlet port, and the reducing nipple (8) in the outlet port. 7. Install the 90 adapter (4) in the branch of the tee (3), and connect the gun air regulator nipple (5) to the swivel. Tighten securely. Use this air regulator to control air pressure to the gun. 8. Graco will, for a period of twelve months from the date of sale, repair or replace any part of the equipment determined by Graco to be defective. This warranty applies only when the equipment is installed, operated and maintained in accordance with Graco’s written recommendations. This warranty does not cover, and Graco shall not be liable for general wear and tear, or any malfunction, damage or wear caused by faulty installation, misapplication, abrasion, corrosion, inadequate or improper maintenance, negligence, accident, tampering, or substitution of non-Graco component parts. Nor shall Graco be liable for malfunction, damage or wear caused by the incompatibility of Graco equipment with structures, accessories, equipment or materials not supplied by Graco, or the improper design, manufacture, installation, operation or maintenance of structures, accessories, equipment or materials not supplied by Graco. This warranty is conditioned upon the prepaid return of the equipment claimed to be defective to an authorized Graco distributor for verification of the claimed defect. If the claimed defect is verified, Graco will repair or replace free of charge any defective parts. The equipment will be returned to the original purchaser transportation prepaid. If inspection of the equipment does not disclose any defect in material or workmanship, repairs will be made at a reasonable charge, which charges may include the costs of parts, labor, and transportation. THIS WARRANTY IS EXCLUSIVE, AND IS IN LIEU OF ANY OTHER WARRANTIES, EXPRESS OR IMPLIED, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMITED TO WARRANTY OF MERCHANTABILITY OR WARRANTY OF FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE. Graco’s sole obligation and buyer’s sole remedy for any breach of warranty shall be as set forth above. The buyer agrees that no other remedy (including, but not limited to, incidental or consequential damages for lost profits, lost sales, injury to person or property, or any other incidental or consequential loss) shall be available. Any action for breach of warranty must be brought within two (2) years of the date of sale. GRACO MAKES NO WARRANTY, AND DISCLAIMS ALL IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE IN CONNECTION WITH ACCESSORIES, EQUIPMENT, MATERIALS, OR COMPONENTS SOLD BUT NOT MANUFACTURED BY GRACO. These items sold, but not manufactured by Graco (such as electric motors, switches, hose, etc.) are subject to the warranty, if any, of their manufacturer. Graco will provide purchaser with reasonable assistance in making any claim for breach of these warranties. SPECIAL WARRANTY FOR DURA-FLO DISPLACEMENT PUMP LOWERS For no additional cost, Graco offers an extended wqarranty for Dura-Flo displacement pump lowers for 36 months from the date of sale by an authorized Graco distributor to the original purchaser for use.
