This is the way the Download Adapter is normally used when connecting to a PC. If the AnyBus Download Adapter has been configured to another setting the RS232 can be set by selecting RS232 on the selection switch B1=1-2, the setting of B2 is irrelevant. Refer to Figure 1 for correct setting for RS-232. The Download Adapter is designed so it will fit all possible configurations. 2.1 Top-side application connector The AnyBus-S module can be mounted directly on the Download Adapter if the 34-pin application connector is mounted on the “top-side” or the “component side” of the AnyBus-S. Refer to the picture below. Note that it is important to connect the AnyBus module correctly to the adapter board to prevent damage. Figure 2 Direct mounting with top-side application connector Figure 3 Direct mounting wi th top-side application connector 2.2 Bottom-side application connector It is necessary to use the enclosed ribbon cable if the application connector is mounted on the solder-side of the AnyBus module. Note that is important to connect the AnyBus module and the ribbon cable correctly to the adapter board prevent damage. This is described in chapter 3.1 and 3.2. 3.1 RS-422 To use AnyBus Download Adapter with RS422 you need to open the unit by disconnecting the base plate and select RS422/RS485 on the selection switch B1 = 2-3 and then select RS422 on the selection switch B2 = 1-2. RJ45 Pin 3 Name B Description Note RS422 Receive - RS422 inverted input to ComAdapter 4 A RS422 Receive + RS422 non-inverted input to ComAdapter 5 CSHLD Cable shield 6 SGND Signal ground 7 Z RS422 Send - RS422 inverted output from ComAdapter 8 Y RS422 Send + RS422 non-inverted output from ComAdapter A standard cable for RS-422 consists of two twisted-pair connections, a signal ground and terminating resistors. The Download Adapter has built-in termination resistors on the send and the receive lines. When driving longer cables, additional terminations for the other end may also be required for acceptable signal quality. The RS-422 wiring is shown below. RJ45 Pin 5 Name Description CSHLD Cable shield Note 6 SGND Signal ground 7 Z RS422 Send - RS422 inverted output from Download Adapter 8 Y RS422 Send + RS422 non-inverted output from Download Adapter A cable for RS-485 consists of a twisted-pair connection, a signal ground and terminating resistor. The built-in termination resistors are used as in RS-422. When using a longer cable, an additional termination in the other end may be required. The RS-485 wiring is shown below. No external connection for send/receive pairs is needed. When the Download Adapter is configured for RS-485 with the jumpers, the Download Adapter internally connects the RS-422 inputs to the RS-422 outputs to make a RS-485 bi-directional interface.
