PCMCIA Drivers for Your KeepInTouch Document Number 3760-A2-GZ45-00
t Card Modem
February 1995
Overview
t
Your modem package includes a SystemSoft CardSoft 3.1 software diskette. This software loads PCMCIA drivers (also called Card and Socket Services) onto your PC. However, before using this software, please try to enable the modem in your current system. Load the SystemSoft drivers only if the modem cannot be enabled with your current drivers. To test if your modem is properly enabled, use a communications software package to send an “AT&F” command to the modem. If the modem responds with “OK”, the modem is enabled — do not use the enclosed SystemSoft drivers. The KeepInTouch Model 3760-B2 is a new modem, and may not be recognized by early releases of Card and Socket Services software. Configuration problems have been found with SystemSoft drivers version 2.1 and earlier. Also, some early notebook PCs did not include any Card and Socket Services software.
CAUTION Do not load the SystemSoft drivers onto your PC unless you are sure that your PC’s current drivers (if any) cannot recognize and enable the modem.
If the drivers on your PC do not recognize and enable the modem, first review the documentation on your PC’s drivers. The driver documentation can assist you in resolving the problem. Also review Appendix A of your user’s guide for troubleshooting information. If, however, you believe that the modem is not being recognized by your PC’s drivers, you must remove the current drivers from your PC before installing the SystemSoft CardSoft software. (Refer to your PC’s driver documentation for information on how to remove the current drivers. You may need to remove (or comment out) some statements in your config.sys file.) The CardSoft software installs new PCMCIA drivers that will recognize your KeepInTouch Card modem.

Installing the CardSoft Software To install the SystemSoft CardSoft software, use the following steps: STEP 1.

STEP 2.
Insert the SystemSoft diskette in your PC’s floppy drive.
STEP 3.
From a DOS command line: TYPE:
a:\install
Where:
a is the letter designated for your PC’s floppy drive.
PRESS:
Enter
STEP 4.
Select the First Time Install option from the CardSoft menu. The software guides you through the installation process.
STEP 5.
If you use Windows , run the “setup.exe” program that is on the SystemSoft diskette. To run “setup.exe”, load Windows and select “a:\setup.exe” from the File Run menu (where a is the letter designated for your PC’s floppy drive).
STEP 6.
If you use a memory manager, change your config.sys file to exclude a 64K memory range, which is needed by the CardSoft program. For example, if you are using EMM386, make sure you have the following lines in your config.sys file:
t
DEVICE=C:\DOS\HIMEM.SYS DEVICE=C:\DOS\EMM386.EXE NOEMS X=D000-DFFF For more information, review the “readme.1st” text file on the SystemSoft diskette. STEP 7.
Reboot your PC.
