The machine is designed to operate on a level surface and must be placed securely on firm, level ground. Electrical Connections Regularly check the electrical Input cable for damages. Please make sure that the Input cable is disconnected from the mains supply during the check. Check the input cable for, Cuts in the cable, crushed insulation, and bent pins on the plug. The possible causes are: • Drag marks if Input cable are led through window or door clearances. • Kinks due to improper attachment or routing of the Input cable. • Cuts caused by running over the connection line. • Insulation damages caused by pulling the connection line out of the wall socket. Operation IMPORTANT: Before operating your log splitter, the bleed screw (12) should be loosened by two (Anti Clockwise) rotations until air can go in and out of the oil tank smoothly. WARNING: Failure to loosen the bleed screw will keep the sealed air in hydraulic system being compressed after being decompressed. Such continuous compression/ decompression will blow out the seals of the hydraulic system and cause permanent damage to your log splitter When you have finished using the log splitter, and before moving your log splitter, make sure the bleed screw is tightened to avoid oil leaking from this point. Transport The machine may be transported while held in a diagonal position. Use the hand grip and pull gently while the machine stands on its wheels. Your 909 machine can be stored or transported under ambient temperatures between -20° C and +60° C at a max. humidity of 80 %. Assembly There is no assembly required prior to use. Your Log Splitter is supplied fully assembled and ready for use. 8 Splitting Logs WARNING: DO NOT attempt to remove or hand open any partially split log until the log pusher has FULLY returned to the rest position. WARNING: 1. Keep both hands on both the controls until the log pusher has FULLY returned. 2. During the splitting operation, take care of falling split sections of the log should they fall off the work table. NOTE: The log splitter will cease to operate upon absence of either hand. Never force your log splitter for more than 5 seconds by keeping pressure on it to split excessively hard wood. After this time interval, the oil under pressure will be overheated and the machine could be damaged. For such extremely hard log, rotate it by 90° to see whether it can be split in a different direction. In any case, if you are not able to split the log, this means that its hardness exceeds the capacity of the machine and thus should be discarded to protect the log splitter. WARNING: Do not use wood that exceeds the cutting capacity of the Log Splitter in length or diameter. IMPORTANT: Do not use wood that has not been cut straight/flush at the ends of the log ie The face of the log must be parallel to the log pusher. Do not use logs that appear to have a knot in the wood. Setting the Variable Ram Adjustment WARNING: Failure to ensure a correct cut log is loaded onto the log splitter can result in the log being ejected out of the log splitter with a sudden and violent force. The log pusher can be pre-set to a position which enables easier and quicker splitting of shorter sized logs by setting the variable ram adjustment. 1. Place a typical length log into position on the work table with one end resting on the splitting wedge 2. Press the hydraulics lever (10) and the on switch (7) together and let the log pusher move until it is just in front of the splitting material. 3. Release the on switch (7), while keeping the hydraulics lever still in position, leaving the log pusher in the desired position. 4. Loosen the Hoist limiting ring (13), and slide it to the left until it is touching the end of the log splitter as shown in Figure 1.) 5. Tighten the Hoist limiting ring. 6. Release the hydraulics lever (10). The variable ram adjustment is now set and can be used to cut logs as per the set length. 1. Place the log plain onto the work table (3). 2. Your log splitter is equipped with Two-hands Control System that requires to be operated by both hands of the user – left hand controls the Hydraulic Lever (10) while right hand controls the On switch (7). 3. To operate the log pusher, press the on switch 7 to start the motor. When the motor has started and is at full speed, (approx 1 sec), Push down on the hydraulic lever 10 whilst keeping the button 7 pressed to run the motor. Release both the On switch 7 and the hydraulic lever 10 when the log pusher has either reached its full movement, or the log has been sufficiently been split.. 4. Remove any residue from the cut log before repeating the process. 9 Jammed log (Fig. 3 & 4) WARNING: DO NOT attempt to remove or hand open any partially split log until the log pusher has FULLY returned to the rest position and the hoist limiting ring is sitting against the housing. Fig. 1 Do not try to knock the jammed log off. Knocking about will damage the machine or may launch the log and cause accident. 1. Release both controls. 2. After the log pusher moves back and completely stops at its starting position, insert a wedge wood under the jammed log as shown in the figure 4. 3. Start the log splitter to push the wedge wood under the jammed one. 4. Repeat above procedure with sharper slope wedge woods until the log is completely freed. 13 Positioning of Log Do Not overload the splitting. The splitter will has a 5 TON limit and will not split all logs. Do not over load the machine by placing logs larger than 25CM in dia. Note the following Wrongly placed log (Fig. 2) Always set logs firmly on the log retaining plates and work table. Make sure logs will not twist, rock or slip while being split. Do not force the blade by splitting logs on the upper part. This will break the blade or damage the machine. WARNING: Do not attempt to split 2 pieces of logs at the same time. One of them may fly up and hit you. 10 Changing the oil NEVER place a log on the log splitter where the cut of the log is on an angle. This is VERY dangerous and the log can suddenly EJECT and hit you, the operator. NEVER try and split a fork in a log. You cannot split these sections and you will overload the log splitter. The hydraulic system is a closed system with oil tank, oil pump and control valve. Check hydraulic connections and fittings regularely for air tightness. Tighten when necessary. The oil tank has been filled with high quality oil during manufacturing. Replacing hydraulic oil after 150 hours of use 1. Make sure all moving parts stop and the log splitter is unplugged. 2. Unscrew oil drain screw (11) to remove it. 3. Turn the log splitter on the support leg side as shown in fig. 5 over a 4 litre capacity container to drain the hydraulic oil off. Recycle carefully! 4. Turn your log splitter on the motor side as shown in Fig. 6 to refill about 3.5 lt fresh oil. 5. Clean the surface of the dip stick on the oil drain bolt and put it back into the oil tank while keeping the log splitter vertically. Make sure the level of the refilled oil is just between 2 grooves around the dip stick. 6. Clean the oil drain bolt before threading it back. Make sure the sealing washer is fitted and then tightened to avoid leakage before placing the log splitter horizontally. Afterwards start splitting a log without actually splitting log several times to work any air out of the hydraulic system. Maintenance and Repair Carry out refitting, setting and cleaning work only when the motor is switched off. Pull the power plug. An experienced worker can carry out minor repairs on the machine alone. Repair and maintenance work on the electrical system may only be carried out by a qualified electrician. If the supply cord of this power tool is damaged, it must be replaced with a specially prepared cordset available through the service agents. All protective and safety devices must be reattached immediately after completed repair and maintenance work. Recommended Maintenance: • The splitting wedge is a wearing part that needs to be sharpened or replaced after wear. • The combined gripping and controlling device must remain smooth running. Lubricate with a few drops of oil when necessary. • Keep splitting wedge drive clean of dirt, wood shavings, bark, etc. • Lubricate slide rails with grease. 11 Fig. 5 Periodically check oil level. Upon low oil level oil refilling is required. Dispose of the used oil in a correct manner at a public collection facility. It is prohibited to drop old oil on the ground or to mix it with waste. We recommend the following hydraulic oils: -Shell Tellus S2M 22 -BP Hyspin AWS 22 or oils of same quality. Do not use any other types of oil as they would influence the function of the hydraulic cylinder. Fig. 6 12 Troubleshooting Problem Probable Cause Remedy 1.
