CS4315 Four 10 Gbps CDRs with EDC Overview The CS4315 Electronic Dispersion Compensation Device (CS4315 EDC) is highly integrated with four 10 Gbps clock and data recovery (CDR) circuits. The two receive channels have the optional integrated Electronic Dispersion Compensation (EDC) capability. This functionality supports 2 SFP+ modules that can be either limited or linear. Enabling the EDC capability allows the device to operate with linear SFP+ optical modules to extend the operating range of 62.5 ìm and 50 ìm multimode fiber to 220 meters and beyond, and greater than 7 meters of Direct Attach Copper cable. The CS4315 EDC will enable the 10 GE enterprise, metro or core market segments across all form factors through their size, low power, and availability. The CS4315 EDC enables the industry move to SFP+ by increasing multi mode fiber reach to over 220 meters; allowing a single board design all SFP+ interface types and making it possible for higher density line cards due to low power and small footprint.
Enabling 10G GB SFP+ and Backplane Applications Lower cost, lower power and higher port densities are driving SFP+ to become the predominant optical module format of these new 10G platforms. The lead application for the CS4315 EDC is enabling the migration of datacom and telecom routers and switches to the SFP+ optical module form factor. Four SFP+ reach applications have been standardized for 10 GbE networks: 10GBASE-SR, -LR, -LRM, and Direct Attach Copper. The CS4315 EDC supports all four applications. The CS4315 EDC incorporates two bi-directional 10 Gbps paths to support the increased port densities. Additional features of the CS4315 EDC include various lookbacks, a complete set of programmable Rx and Tx path functionality, such as output preemphasis, and full 1 GbE data rate support. Packaged in a small 12mm by 12mm flip-chip package, the CS4315 EDC has an integrated microcontroller to enable auto adapation. Successful interoperability testing of the CS4315 EDC with SFP+ optical modules and Direct Attach Copper cables from leading vendors has provided the broadest collection of real life system application data available in the industry with coverage for all four SFP+ applications: SR, LR, LRM, and Direct Attach Copper cable. The receive and transmit CDRs on the CS4315 have an operating frequency range of 9.95 to 11.3 Gbps. The CDRs also support 8G/4G/2G/1G Fibre Channel rates. The CS4315 also includes a 10GBASE-KR compliant 3-tap transmit pre-emphasis. The transmit pre-emphasis and receive equalization, along with the extended operating frequency range, make the CS4315 an ideal solution for backplane link extension, in 10GBase-KR, 10G telecom, and 10G/8G CS4212 applications.
