Telemetry System Highlights The MIS family provides a time, space, position information (TSPI)-capable telemetry unit or data recorder packaged in a ruggedized 2.5”-diameter housing capable of withstanding missile launches. This module provides the MIS with inertial measurement capability for high-dynamic applications such as missiles or high-performance aircraft. Power Converter Module The power converter module provides power conditioning as necessary to meet MIL-STD 704A and MIL-STD-1275E power quality standards as well as EN55022, CISPR22, Class B EMI Compliant. This module contains an isolated DC-DC converter, two buck-boost regulators, a non-isolated DC-DC converter for MIS power, a LDO for low noise MIS power, EMI filters, inrush protection, reverse input protection, input diode isolation, short circuit protection, and power distribution that will convert the externally-supplied power to clean, filtered, regulated voltage levels necessary to power the entire MIS stack. It is also capable of supplying power to external devices such as transmitters, transponders, remote MIS stacks, etc.

Provides clean, low-noise power for all MIS modules (up to 20W). High efficiency regulators (up to 98% efficiency). There is a total of 4 different diode ORed input powers, 2 battery and 2 external. All 4 inputs have reverse voltage protection, surge voltage protection, and soft starts. Only one of the external power inputs has spike protection. Can boost any of the 4 input voltages up to 40V with a maximum output of 10W from each buck-boost. There is a total of 9 different outputs. Each one is rated for at least 2A that can provide positive and/or negative voltages for MIS modules or external devices. One of the 9 power outputs can be controlled on or off at will by other modules in the MIS stack and can output any of the input/output voltages. The batteries can be turned on by applying voltage to a single pin. This feature can be configured to either be latched on by a momentary voltage or can be required to have a continuous voltage. The batteries can be turned on or off from other modules in the stack even when the batteries are isolated from MIS power. All power inputs can be isolated from the MIS module power and from each other or have various grounding schemes depending on their usage. A single discrete input that can be configured to accept an external input or that can be used to monitor battery voltage to provides status when the battery is on.

Analog Output Module The MIS analog output module offers 16 outputs that can be factory configured to be single-ended or differential. Each channel is triggered or controlled individually to output set waveforms or receive waveforms remotely. The data is latched to each individual output synchronously for all 16 channels. The module is also designed to be able to either float the outputs when desired or to pullup each respective output to a known power rail. This feature allows the board to also be used in a digital / discrete output fashion. This capability also keeps the DAC outputs from having an unintended effect on external circuitry when not in use. The analog output module gives the MIS user the ability to output complex analog signals or to add an analog signal to an existing externally applied signal. This feature is useful for using the instrumentation system to augment flight testing or to aid in experiments.

The products are unique as they utilize the latest in electronics design and manufacturing technology to provide increased reliability, better performance, and features to aid the end user with integration. A standalone package compliant with the RCC-319 packaging requirements provide a drop-in replacement for legacy designs. A unique, compact integrated package is available for embedding the receiver within a Modular Instrumentation System (MIS) telemetry or recorder system. This configuration can be used with the MIS Flight Termination Interface (FTI) module that handles the interface, signal distribution, and instrumentation required for RCC-319 based Flight Termination Systems. Fuzewell Data Recorder The Dynetics MIS-based fuzewell data recorder is a self-contained recorder system capable of simultaneously recording RS-232 serial data, MIL-STD-1553 bus traffic, and IRIG-106 PCM telemetry data. The unit features a rechargeable/replaceable battery pack, 16 GB of flash memory, USB 2.0 download capability, user-configurable PCM encoder, PCM output, premodulation filter, and IRIG time stamping. Designed for mechanical compatibility with several fuse packages, the recorder is intended to operate within a compliant fuzewell during captive carry conditions. Internally, the recorder has expansion slots and can be further customized at the factory for other applications by utilizing MIS input/output (I/O) modules. Configuration and control software allows system interface with a PC serial port for configuration and USB 2.0 for data retrieval and control.

The recorder is configured from existing MIS modules and specially packaged for a specific system application. The inboard end incorporates an integral battery pack, followed by a stack of MIS modules on circular circuit card assemblies. The outboard end incorporates an I/O interface panel including micro-D metal (MDM)style high density MIL-STD connectors, a radio frequency (RF) input for the GPS time synchronization, and a mini B USB port, in addition to three indicator lights.

Modular Instrumentation System (MIS)
Rotor Data Acquisition Systems (RDAS) For over 20 years, Dynetics has been involved in the design, fabrication, and support of custom telemetry instrumentation systems. These systems have operated under harsh conditions varying from high frequency vibration to exposure to explosive atmosphere, rapid altitude changes, pressure changes, high spin rates, and low and high temperatures. Leveraging Dynetics’ proven MIS hardware, Dynetics has developed a rotor data acquisition system (RDAS). The RDAS provides an instrumentation unit to collect data and telemeter that data to a nearby fuselage receiver, avoiding costly onboard slip rings. The compact design of the system often allows for integration within the spinner or between rotor blades for rotor applications. An optional Dynetics-provided receiver and bit synchronizer in the fuselage can provide clock and data inputs for use by the decom and data recorders. Multiple antenna configuration options are available. The RDAS architecture is designed to be configurable to meet different data collection requirements and minimize non-recurring engineering (NRE) costs.

Open Architecture for Telemetry and Instrumentation Systems (OATIS) Specifications The open architecture for telemetry and instrumentation systems (OATIS) was developed by Dynetics for the System Simulation and Development Directorate (SSDD). OATIS is modular and designed to make, log, and transmit inertial and various other measurement to a ground station. It includes two subsystems:

OATIS has been installed in the following unmanned aircraft systems (UAS): ▪ Hunter: precision engagement collaboration process (PECP) completed for integration on Hunter. Flown on Hunter during flight test demonstrations in January 2005. ▪ Shadow: initial integration and partial mission capable (PMC) flights performed December 2006 at Redstone Arsenal (RSA). Range check flights (100 km) performed at RSA in January 2007. ▪ Other: installed on a total of five vendor prototypes to collect independent measurements for aerial vehicle (AV) performance analysis.
Data acquisition The SSNs are a family of distributed data acquisition products responsible for signal measurement. These devices consist of modular components for signal conditioning, measurement, and communication. A network of SSNs is connected to the ACU via a network cable in a daisy chain topology. The nodes are placed in the UAS in close proximity to the signals to be measured. The distributed data acquisition architecture of OATIS simplifies installation and maintenance of test equipment by significantly reducing the amount of cable that must be routed through the airframe.

Ground Station Support and Services Dynetics provides end-to-end telemetry solutions for our customers. This includes design and fabrication of custom telemetry instrumentation; installation of instrumentation in a variety of high-performance missiles, aircraft, and other systems; field test support and data collection; and post-test data analysis. In 2007, Dynetics developed the telemetry and instrumentation ground receiver station (TIGRS) van to provide total system support at any test range. The TIGRS van includes state-of-the-art telemetry receivers, test equipment, and real-time analysis tools. TIGRS includes a customer viewing area that allows our customers to view live tests and test results. Dynetics has more than 15 years of experience in the design, fabrication, and support of telemetry systems. Flight Termination Receiver Test Set Dynetics’ Flight Termination Receiver Test Set provides customers a sleek, convenient, and integrated test kit for Tone-Based FTR units by implementing the 313-01 ATP and recertification procedure. Additionally, it provides complex encoded and encrypted EFTR waveforms to aid in preliminary testing of EFTR units. The test unit is ideal for customers desiring to reduce the man hours required to recertify FTR units or for customers who desire a flexible and powerful waveform and tone generator for FTR and EFTR RF inputs. The DDS and FPGA based test unit allows for remote reprogramming and feature upgrades. A polished and user-friendly GUI provides the customer with ample controls and real-time status feedback data. The user is able to put the unit in both a manual control mode and an automated test mode, facilitating a variety of testing requirements. The Test Set unit is fully integrated, comprised of power supplies, digital circuitry, and RF circuitry. A standard 110V 60 Hz AC power input pulls less than 3 amps max.
