User instructions for RDS receiver
Shows which Indicator showing if the programme selection alarm clock function is button is being used Chosen radio activated or not channel
You have now received an RDS receiver that has been developed to warn you when a serious accident has occurred in the vicinity. When an accident has occurred, the display will turn red and contain the text VIKTIGT MEDDELANDE. You will also hear an alarm signal. The receiver then switches over automatically to channel P4 on Sveriges Radio (the Swedish Broadcasting Corporation) at a high volume to provide information about the accident. The receiver will issue an alarm even if it is switched off. In the event of an alarm, the clock will stop so that you can see when the alarm was issued. The receiver returns to normal mode when you press any button. • • • •

The RDS receiver belongs to the Swedish Rescue Services Agency and is on loan. Handle the RDS receiver with normal care and attention. Leave the RDS receiver in the property/residence if you move. The RDS receiver should always be connected to a wall socket. 1
The warning system is tested at 19.00 on the first Monday (not public holidays) in March, June, September and December.

Getting started! When you have unpacked the RDS receiver, check that the aerial 16 is connected to the aerial socket 14 . Then position the receiver where you want it. The aerial should be attached to the wall. Connect the mains lead 15 to the nearest wall socket. The receiver now sets radio channels, clock and date automatically. Sveriges Radio P1 is set on the button marked P1, Sveriges Radio P2 on the button marked P2, Sveriges Radio P3 on the button marked P3 and Sveriges Radio P4 on the button marked P4. This search may take a few minutes. The receiver always displays the right time and switches automatically between summer and winter time.

If the display reads DÅLIG MOTTAGNING If the receiver cannot receive RDS signals, a red lamp flashes and the text DÅLIG MOTTAGNING appears in the display. First try moving the aerial to see if the text on the display changes within a few minutes. If this does not help, try placing the receiver in a different position. If this does not help either, contact your county administrative board (see back page).

When there is a power failure

In the event of a power failure, the receiver continues working with the aid of a built-in battery. The battery can operate the receiver for approximately 48 hours. In this event, it only works as a warning receiver (i.e. the radio function is disconnected). This is to ensure that the battery lasts as long as possible. When the power comes back on, the battery is charged automatically. The battery’s charge level can be seen at all times in the display.

Test function On the rear of the receiver is a button marked TEST 11 . Using this you can check that the receiver is working. When you press TEST, the display should change colour to red and Sveriges Radio P4 should be set automatically at high volume. The radio is also reset to the original channels P1-P4.
When the alarm sounds: • Close all doors, windows and other ventilation. In this way no contaminated air can enter. Listen to Sveriges Radio P4. The RDS receiver automatically transmits P4 when the alarm sounds.

• If you are outdoors, you will hear a sound transmitter sending the ‘important message’ signal. The signal sounds for seven seconds, is silent for 14 seconds, sounds for seven seconds, and so on. You should then go indoors quickly, closing windows, doors and other ventilation. Listen to P4. • Help others. For example, you should let in anyone who needs protection indoors.
