Its ability to simultaneously act as a CPE and participate in packet-based access rings makes it an asset for providers looking for a cost-effective and reliable way to serve their customers. Carriers can also merge PDH-based 2G and 3G NodeBs with Ethernet-based 3G and 4G/LTE eNodeBs in a converged packet network, by using ETX-205A’s Ethernet and PDH interfaces and its timing capabilities. ETX-205A transports up to five Gbps of user traffic while ensuring SDH/SONET-like performance and Five Nines reliability. All ETX-205A units are equipped with SFP/copper combo Ethernet ports, enabling flexible mixture of fiber optic and copper interfaces in one device. The SFP ports accommodate a wide range of Fast Ethernet and Gigabit Ethernet SFP transceivers, allowing service providers to seamlessly connect customers located at different distances from the device. MARKET SEGMENTS AND APPLICATIONS VLAN-tagged and untagged traffic can be classified. ETX-205A is ideal for carriers, service providers, and wholesale providers seeking to offer SLA-based Ethernet services as well as pseudowire services to business customers and mobile backhauling applications. Layer-2 Control Protocols The device can be configured to pass through Layer-2 control frames (with optional MAC change) to peer supported protocols, or to discard the L2CP frames. ETX-205A can be used as an Ethernet demarcation device to separate the service provider network, access provider network, and the customer network. Additionally it can act as a mobile demarcation device, installed at the operator tower and controller sites equipped with Ethernet and PDH ports, connecting the 2G/3G/4G/LTE NodeB or eNodeB to the packet network, providing sophisticated synchronization and traffic management. In either case it delivers proactive service monitoring and easy fault localization for Ethernet and pseudowire services throughout the entire network (see Figure 1). ETHERNET Classification Traffic is mapped to multiple Ethernet flows using flexible classification criteria based on incoming port, VLAN ID, VLAN priority, IP precedence, DSCP, Ethertype, and IP/MAC source/destination address. Forwarding Ethernet flows are used to establish E-LINE services and can be attached to Layer-2 switching instances for E-LAN and E-Tree services. The layer-2 switch offers multiple VLAN-aware or VLAN-unaware forwarding instances, limiting the MAC learning per switching instance while limiting the total amount of multicast and broadcast traffic. Furthermore, ETX-205A supports L2CP with MAC change over the bridge. Traffic Management/QoS Different service types require different levels of QoS to be provided end-to-end. QoS can be defined per subscriber as well as per service. QoS has three aspects: rate limitation, traffic shaping, and traffic prioritization. Traffic policing is applied per flow or group of flows, and operates according to the ETX-2 Carrier Ethernet Demarcation Device dual token bucket mechanism based on user-configurable CIR + CBS and EIR + EBS. Traffic can be limited to the line rate or the data rate. Flows are mapped to egress queue blocks, each containing eight queues with WRED congestion control, weighted fair queue (WFQ) scheduler, and rate shaper. With up to 30 shaped queue blocks per port, ETX-205A offers a superior H-QoS model enabling mix and match of multiple customers with differentiated services while ensuring the desired SLA per customer and service under any condition. RESILIENCY ETX-205A offers fast protection for virtually any kind of failure and in any linear, ring, or dual-homed topology. Link Protection ETX-205A offers 802.3ad link aggregation (LAG), providing 1:1 link protection with Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP) support. Ethernet Ring Protection ETX-205A provides a logical ring (per ITU-T G.8032v2) that protects against link and Applications node failures. The ring delivers sub 50 ms protection for Ethernet traffic. Ethernet Path Protection ETX-205A applies standard ITU-T G.8031 Ethernet Linear Protection switching for fast protection of one or more EVCs from end to end. The standard implementation ensures interoperability with third-party devices. E1/T1 PSEUDOWIRE PBX connectivity. The quality of service prioritization technique for E1/T1 PW differs according to the transport network type. With MEF-8 encapsulation, priority is marked by Layer-2 p-bit; with UDP/IP encapsulation, priority is set according to ToS/DSCP bits. Transmit Clock Source The E1/T1 transmit clock source can be one of the following: ETX-205A provides E1/T1 pseudowire (PW) services with 4 or 8 integrated interfaces. • adaptive – Clock is derived from the incoming rate of PW packets The PW services can be encapsulated using: • loopback –Clock is retrieved from the port's incoming (Rx) data • CESoPSN – CES (Circuit Emulation Services) over PSN, for framed E1/T1 traffic, per IETF RFC 5086 • internal/domain – Clock is provided by system internal oscillator, which can be synched to SyncE or PTP when available. • SAToP – Structure-Agnostic TDM over Packet, for unframed E1/T1 traffic, per IETF RFC 4553. The encapsulated PW connections can be transmitted over IP networks or Layer-2 networks with UDP/IP or MEF-8 encapsulation. Channel-associated signaling (CAS) is supported in PWs with CESoPSN encapsulation over UDP/IP PSN, enabling Aggregation Site MONITORING AND DIAGNOSTICS Featuring ultra-fast, hardware-powered processing, ETX-205A performs monitoring and diagnostics at high scale and with maximum precision. This ensures flow-level fault management and performance monitoring, accurate SLA reports, Layer-2 and 3 loopbacks at wire-speed, and fast detection of failures for fast protection. Fault monitoring and end-to-end performance measurement include delay, delay variation, frame loss (real traffic and synthetic), and availability Accurate one-way delay measurement based on PTP time stamping and hardware-based OAM. Service Activation Test The device provides a built-in RFC-2544 wire-speed traffic generator and analyzer for unidirectional and bidirectional testing of throughput, latency, and frame loss. Based on standard OAM messages, the tests can be simultaneously performed over multiple flows, at the EVC.CoS level. Loopback Tests Layer-2 and/or layer-3 network integrity can be tested by a non-intrusive loopback performed per flow, with swapping of MAC and IP address. This loopback can be configured to remain active after ETX-205A is reset. PW OAM When equipped with E1/T1 interfaces, ETX-205A offers the following OAM for pseudowire services: • Connectivity verification. • PW parameter validation • Delay measurements with 1 µsec resolution. TIMING AND SYNCHRONIZATION ETX-205A implements the RAD SyncTop™ synchronization suite, allowing mobile backhauling of 2G, 3G and 4G/LTE. The device combines Synchronous Ethernet (SyncE) per ITU-T G.8261-G.8264 with IEEE 1588v2 Precision Time Protocol (slave functionality) for cost-effective synchronization of frequency and phase. It also supports Transparent Clock (TC) with hardware-based time stamping. Primary/secondary clock selection is backed up by a stratum 3/3E holdover local oscillator. SMART SFPS Integrated management of MiRICi smart SFPs provides TDM (E1/T1/E3/T3/ OC-3/STM-1) connectivity over PDH or SDH legacy networks. Integrated management of MiTOP smart SFPs provides PDH over packet PWE services. ETX-205A supports configuration and statistic collection for the smart SFP port. MANAGEMENT AND SECURITY ETX-205A can be managed locally via an RS-232 port or out-of-band via a dedicated Ethernet port. It can also be managed remotely through its inband management channel. Management is achieved via an easy-to-use Command Line Interface (CLI) that also includes a user-configurable login banner and context-sensitive help. Additionally, an SNMP-based management system can be used. Management security is achieved with SNMPv1/2/3, RADIUS (client authentication), TACACS+ (client authentication, authorization, and accounting), SSH, and SFTP. Access Control Lists (ACL) can also be used to flexibly filter and mark management traffic, enabling service providers to maintain network security by dropping unwanted packets. Zero Touch Provisioning IP address, latest software version, and configuration files can be automatically obtained using standard DHCP client functionality. This enables quick and reliable setup as well as configuration consistency when nodes must be replaced. Specifications CAPACITY Max.
