The 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter LED Indicator
The 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter has one LED indicator. The behavior of the indicator is described as below:
Link LED Solid Green – Connected to the Access Point or Ad-Hoc wireless workstation and transmitting data.
Blinking Green –The 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter is attempting to connect to the Access Point or Ad-Hoc wireless workstation.

Chapter 2 Getting Started This chapter describes the instructions that guide you through the proper installation of your 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter for the Windows XP/2000/ME/98SE operating systems. Ensure you have good line of sight between the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter and your Access Point/Wireless Router for the initial configuration.
2-1 Before Installation In addition to the items shipped, you will also need the following in order to install the USB Adapter: 1. A notebook or PC equipped with a spare USB slot compliant with revision 1.1 or 2.0. 2. Windows XP/2000/98SE/ME. 3. Minimum 5 Mbytes free disk space for installing driver and utility program.

Inserting the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter
To install the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter the following should be done: 1.
Find an available USB slot on your notebook or PC.

Insert the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter into the USB slot.
Chapter 3 Install Driver for Windows This section describes the installation of the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter driver for the Windows XP operating system. For Windows 2000 and Windows 98SE/ME refer to the manual on the CD.

Set up the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter for Windows XP
Step 1: After inserting the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter, Windows will auto-detect the Adapter as USB Device and a “Found New Hardware Wizard” window will show up. If Windows asks for a Windows Update software search, select “No, not this time” and click Next. Select “Install from a list or specific location (Advanced)”, insert the CD-ROM provided into the appropriate drive and click Next to continue.

Step 2: Select the Search removable media (floppy, CD-ROM…) check box and click Next to install the driver.
Step 3: Windows XP will show the message that the driver has not passed Windows Logo testing to verify its compatibility with Windows XP. Click on the Continue Anyway button to continue installing.

Step 4: Windows XP will find the USB Adapter as “802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter” and start copying corresponding files into the system.
Step 5: Click Finish to complete the installation.

Step 6: After installation please wait for Windows XP to display a Wireless Network Connection message in the bottom right corner of your task bar.
Step 7: Close down this message by clicking on the “X” in the top right hand corner of the message box.
Step 8: Go to Start-(Settings)-Control Panel and double-click on Network (& Internet) Connections.
Step 9: Right click the new Wireless Network Connection icon and select Properties. Under the Wireless Networks tab make sure “Use Windows to configure my wireless network settings” is unchecked and click OK.
Step 10: Now install the WLAN Utility to enable connection to your wireless network.

Install the WLAN Utility
Ensure you have good line of sight between the 802.11g Wireless LAN USB Adapter and your Access Point/Wireless Router for the initial configuration. To install the WLAN Utility, follow these steps.
Step 1: Insert the CD-ROM provided. Step 2: Go to the Utility folder on the CD and double click setup.exe. Step 3: This launches the InstallShield Wizard which will guide you through the rest of the set up process. Click through Next on each screen (you may have to click Continue Anyway on further Windows Logo testing) until you reach the InstallShield Wizard Complete screen.
Step 4: Click Finish. If the screen does not prompt a restart click Finish anyway. Step 5: Please wait for the Utility to detect the wireless network. The WLAN Utility icon should appear in the System Tray in the bottom right corner of your task bar.

The icon indicates the link status of your connection as per the examples below: Exclamation mark indicates no wireless connection (this icon may appear briefly before the link quality has been established.) Blue indicates a good or excellent link.
Yellow indicates a usable but weak link.
Red indicates no or very poor link quality.
Radio icon indicates no detected adapter (if this occurs restart your computer.)

Use the WLAN Utility
Double click on the WLAN Utility icon in the system tray or on your desktop to open the Configuration Window and check the status of your connection. You should now be connected.
For further configuration please access the manual on the CD provided. If you are still experiencing problems or can’t connect, we suggest you contact your supplier for further advice.
