PRECAUTION Read Carefully Before Using the Product Handling the product in a wrong way may decline its performance and also damage the product. Read the notes below before handling the product. [Failures] In order to use this product for a long time and prevent troubles before happens, observe strictly followings. About static electrical charge ●In order to prevent any damage of electric heating element of head, IC, etc., static discharge prevention and body grounding must be made for dealing.
Make sure to connect it to the earth ground for for ESD measures.
About handling ●Avoid excessive force to the input terminals. ●Use both hands when holding the product in order to prevent from dropping. ●DO NOT scrabble or give impact to thermal head with sharp edge object or any hard materials, which may damage the heat elements.
About setting ●This product is NOT protected against dust or dirt. If used in harsh environment like at dusty place, the thermal head may get damaged or paper feed
may not run properly. ●When cooling the product with a fan, keep the air exhaust slit away from the printer’s paper exit area so that dust or dirt may not get in the thermal head. ●This product is equipped with an infra-red reflection sensor. The product must be installed where there is NO direct sun light/infra-red light coming in,
as otherwise, the sensor would not function properly. ●The product should NOT be installed where it could be exposed to static electricity easily, strong vibration, electromagnetic field, corrosive gas, rain, fog and direct sunlight.
About operation ●Avoid printing with no paper loaded. It can damage thermal head and also shorten its life-time. ●DO NOT open the front cover while printing and/or cutter operation. It may damage thermal head and cutter. ●DO NOT pull out the paper with the front cover closed. ●DO NOT block the paper outlet while print operation. Also, DO NOT grab the paper while print operation.

[Safety] For use this product safety, observe strictly followings. ●Turn OFF the power before connecting or removing connectors. When disconnecting, handle with the connector body and DO NOT pull out by a cable. ●The product is NOT protected from water or dew drop. DO NOT put water to the product nor handle it with wet hand because it may damage the
product due to short circuit or heat or fire. ●In order to prevent excessive current, add an electrolytic capacitor and a fuse (refer to power supply specifications for details). ●DO NOT disassemble or modify the product. ●In case of disposal, follow the regulations or rules of the local authorities. ●Use LPS power supply is recommended. ●Please turn OFF in case no use for a long time. ●Please do not touch the cutter blade regardless of during operating / stopping of cutter.
[Quality] To use without spoil the quality of this product, beware of followings. About data ●The product supports only control codes and commands authorized in this document. ●With such print program that printing and paper feeding movements get interrupted temporarily due to data queuing etc, printing and paper feeding
may jumble on a very first few 1~4 dots line. Especially when printing graphic etc, be careful. About printing operation ●The print may jumble at the first 1-2 dot right after the paper cut action. ●DO NOT touch the heating element part of the thermal head, since it could degrade the print quality due to soil. ●In case of using print papers other than those specified in this document, print quality and lifetime of thermal head may not reach the level guaranteed
by the manufacturer. ●DO NOT pull out the paper while the printer is in motion of printing, paper feeding or cutting. When removing the partially cut paper, pull it to either right or left direction without too much force. ●Continuous motor running for a long time generates heat and may affect the printer performance. To avoid the case, it is necessary to limit the continuous motor running time to 6 minutes at maximum with the same interval time for each operation. ●Continuous motor running for a long time generates heat and may affect the printer performance. Please observe the permission freaquency of cutter. When use beyond it, cutter could be destroyed at worst. ●Set the paper straightened with no slack. ●Even if the cut face get rusty since this product is made from coated steel plate, it does not affect the product’s quality and performance at all.

[Others] ●This product is designed to use with general electronic devices. (Computer, PC, OA etc.) This product is not designed and guaranteed to use with
devices that require extremely high quality and reliability, also to use with devices that those failures may directly endanger human body and life. (Atomic power control device, aerospace aircraft device, transportation device, traffic signal device, ignition control device, medical device and various safety devices: hereafter called as “Specific application”.) Users shall take full responsibility for using with such specific application. ●DO NOT conduct operation that is not suggested in this instruction. It may cause accident or failure. ●Data can not be long-term stored, permanently stored and saved since it is basically evanescent. Nippon Primex Inc is not responsible for any

1.2 Features This model incorporates newly developed in-house printer mechanism and is a module printer improving its usability moreover. Installation with each apparatus is just finished with power supply (DC24V) and data supply only, and this model can be used under the wide range of temperature environment. Therefore, the user can install this model freely. 1) Wide range of operation environment. 2) Capable for a thick paper. 3) Small, light weight. Since this model is low-profile, it is easy to install in each apparatus. 4) High Speed Printing & High Quality Printing. 5) Interface available for Serial (RS232C) and USB (v2.0 High Speed) 6) Adaptation to various types of 1D barcode. Adaptation to 2D barcode (QR code model2 and PDF417). 7) Adaptation to various applications. 8) Equipped with a paper roll holder with a user-friendly near-end paper sensor. 9) Driver(Windows XP / Windows Vista / Windows 7 / Windows CE5.0 / Windows CE6.0 Linux(Sample)) 10) Easy to re-write firmware*3 with Flash Memory. Also, Registration of 3 pattern of NV bit image is possible. 11) Adaptation to Japanese, Chinese, Greek, Polish, Russian, Scandinavian, and Turkish. 12) Capable of controlling an optional paper feeding device (Presenter). 13) Easy to change roll paper by auto-loading. 14) Easy maintenance thanks to a complete openable thermal head. 【Note】 ・Please set printing density after confirmation of printing quality in the environment because printing quality may decline depending on temperature and humidity. Setting of printing density is available with the command [Set printing density] 《GS ~ n》. ・When printing at high printing rate in low temperature or high humidity environment, contamination on paper or condensation will be occurred with this product due to vapors generated from thermal paper. Please beware of water droplet not to drop on thermal head. They may cause garvanic corrosion . When condensation occurs, please keep turning-off the switch until dew disappears. ・Please use thermal paper containg less Na+ion, K+ion, and CI-ion and fully-evaluated its reliability.

How to set Memory switch by manual operation
When setting (changing) memory switch by manual, please conduct the following operations with the status ready to print. 1) Migration to setting mode. ① Swicth ON(Make sure aprinter starting). ② Open thermal head cover and turn FEED switch ON. ③ Keep pressing FEED switch for 3 seconds. ④ ALARM LED(Red) will blink and migrate to memory switch rewriting mode. ⑤ Turn FEED switch OFF(Relaese pressing) 2) How to set each switch ① Set memory switch by DIP switch. ② Turn FEED switch ON and copy the setting of DIP switch to memory switch. ③ ALARM LED(Red) will blink and copyig will be done. ④ Return the setting of DIP switch and close thermal head cover (set paper at the same time.) ⑤ Make sure printing the contents of memory switch. *Please make sure returning DIP switch. *Please close thermal head cover when canceling memory switch rewriting mode.

4.1.3 Self-diagnostic printing 1) Checking the following contents by self-diagnostic printing function. ・Function of control circurity ・Controling F/W version ・The status of DIP switch and memory switch ・Operation of paper-out sensor 2) Start and end of self-diagnostic printing Self-diagnostic printing will be started by switch ON with pressing FEED switch and release pressing FEED switch after initializing of printer mechanism. Preset printing patern will be printed, and self-diagnostic printing will be done. Printer will be OFF line during self-diagnostic printing. *Please conduct with paper-in status. Self-diagnostic printing will not be operated when the status of cover-opend or paper-out because factory maintainance mode will be started. Please turn OFF in this case.
4.1.4 Paper sensor Paper end sensor is equipped in the paper course of the printer mechanism, and it detects fully paper-out status. When paper-out status is detected, paper near end status will be transmitted and printing will be done. Also, please do not use the paper roll whose end is glued to its core because it is undetectable. Please replace paper roll immediately when paper-out is detected.

Gray scale printing Gray scale printing is available by EX driver (After ver.1.1.1.0). Bit image, raster image, etc. will be printed by gray scale printing. 16 gray scale printing will be operated.
【Note】 ・Changing EX driver setting is required for gray scale printing. ・From property screen of EX driver, Select general Tab print setting (T)→Layout tab detail setting(V)→ Color printing mode gray scale (Half tone) →[OK]. (Please refer to the followings.)

2) FEED Switch [Paper feed switch] Switch to feed paper in the forward direction Also, used in self-printing. *Changable to Valid or Invalid by setting command[Valid or Invalid FEED switch]《ESC c 5》. 3) RESET Switch Equipped to the side surface (see fig. below) and unable to press by a finger in order to avoid mis-operation. How to set Roll Paper *Please refer to this section when removing roll paper. 1)Set roll paper to the paper holder (PH-8L) (In case of standard NP-3511) ①Open the roll paper as shown in the following figure and put the paper support shaft through the roll paper. (Beware not to apply excess force when widening the paper holder.) (Pay attention to direction of roll paper.) ②Put the roll paper support shaft back to the initial position.

3) Setting paper by auto-loading function. (Recommendation) ① Set roll paper to paper holder by 1) or 2). ② Insert paper edge into paper entrance. (Make sure roll paper will be inserted straightly.) (When the terminal of paper is taped, etc., please cut the line which was taped straightly at a right angle by scissors.) ③ Paper sensor will detect and automatically pull in the inserted paper. (Make sure thermal head cover is closed.) (Please make sure switch ON) ④ Paper will be pulled in and cut at a constant length and will be ready for printing.

【Note】 ・Remove the old core before setting new roll paper. ・Set paper correctly like no loosening (It causes paper jam) ・Set paper straight and right angle(Please refer to Fig. of the terminal shape of paper). ・When the paper terminal is fractured or cut on the bias to insert, paper loading may not be operated. ・When the terminal of paper is taped, etc., please cut the line which was taped straightly at a right angle by scissors. ・The print side must be external side and also it must be upward to insert. ・In the incident of inserted paper on the bias, open the head cover and straighten the paper. (Do not impress a force beyond the stopping place, and beware not to put your hands and fingers.) ・Since thermal head may be highly-heated right after printing, beware not to touch it.

4) Setting paper using thermal head cover open/close function. ①Set roll paper to paper holder by 1) or 2). ②Open up thermal head cover by lifting up the head open lever to the arrow direction. ③Pull out the paper until it passes through the printing mechanism. (When paper has taped part, pull it until it comes out from A position of mechanism.) (Please pull paper along the paper guide.) ④Please make sure to lock thermal head cove. ⑤Paper will be pulled in and cut at a constant length and will be ready for printing. How to remove the remaindered paper and the jammed paper ①Lift head open lever as per arrow direction to open the thermal head cover. ②Remove all papers on paper path. ③Completely close the thermal head cover until it clicks and locks.
【Note】 ・Since thermal head may be highly-heated right after printing, beware not to touch it. ・Beware not to touch cutter blade at paper jam failure because it may fall out from the unit. ・Make sure not to apply excess angle when opening the head cover. ・Beware of your fingers and hands when a head closes.

How to clean Thermal Head In case wisps of paper adhere to heat element of the thermal head, print quality may drop. Also, paper dust may adhere to platen and sensor part. In this case, clean thermal head following instructions mentioned below.
1) Thermal Head Clean surface of heating element with a cotton swab moistened with ethanol or IPA. 2) Platen Remove trash and dust on the surface by wiping like rubbing slightly with dry cloth. 3) Mark Sensor / No paper sensor and its surrounding Remove trash / dust adhered to sensor with a soft-bristled brush or a cotton swab. 4) Auto cutter Remove trash / dust adhere to cutter with aero blow. (Indication: every hundred-thousand operation) 【Note】 ・Since thermal head may be highly-heated right after printing, beware not to touch it. ・DO NOT touch directly with metal or by your hand to the heating element of the thermal head. ・Beware of static electricity while cleaning, because it may damage the thermal head. ・It may have a bloom of paper depending on papers, check at the period of maintenance and decide what kind of a paper to use. ・Make sure to turn ON the power after its complete dry. ・Make sure not to apply excess angle when opening the head cover.
