WELCOME TO APARTMENT 2, No. 15 RUE NOTRE DAME, CANNES (Tel. 04 93 68 73 02) We, Michael and Karen Broom Smith, would like to welcome you to our apartment at 15 rue Notre Dame and hope that you will enjoy your stay, whether it is for business or pleasure. Below and on the following pages is some information that we hope you will find useful. Please don’t hesitate to get in touch with us should you have any further questions or need help with anything. THE LEFT HAND TAP IS A NORMAL COLD AND HOT WATER TAP. THE RIGHT HAND TAP PRODUCES INSTANT BOILING WATER BY PUSHING THE BUTTON IN AND TURNING THE TAP TOWARDS YOU. DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES PUT YOUR HAND UNDER THIS BOILING WATER. RUBBISH PLEASE REMOVE ALL RUBBISH FROM THE APARTMENT AT THE END OF YOUR STAY. 3 Air The controller for the central air conditioning system is in the sitting room, Conditioner above the main light switch. Press the “RUN/STOP” button to start / stop. The temperature in the sitting room is adjusted using the two “TEMP” buttons on this panel. The temperature in the bedrooms is controlled using the individual controllers in each bedroom. Leave the mode on COOL and set the temperature between 19˚C and 22˚C PLEASE PLEASE DO NOT USE THE AIR CONDITIONER TO HEAT THE APARTMENT. SEE HEATING BELOW. Electricity If the electricity goes off, check the main trip switch to the RHS of the apartment door. If this is in the “on” position, check the individual fuses in the fuse box under the hallway table. If the electricity goes off in the common parts of the building the main trip switch is at the bottom of the stairs on the left just before you leave the building. Gas If you smell gas, turn off the main isolating valve which is in the box outside the apartment door, to the RHS as you are facing the door. Then call Michael. Heating To turn on the central heating (radiators), go to the boiler in the kitchen. To operate the heating simply press the button with the little radiator symbol below it turn it on and press again to turn it off. The boiler will immediately fire up. Generally you will find that 30 to 60 minutes is sufficient to heat the apartment for the evening. Please do not leave the heating on when you leave the apartment or overnight. Hob The electric hob is induction and is very straight forward. Touch the on/off button for about a second and then use the + and – buttons for the desired ring to raise or lower the temperature. There is a link on the web site to the full manual. Please use the extractor fan when using the hob. This is activated by pulling the extractor unit towards you. DishDishWasher To operate the dishwasher, fill the holder with powder. Press the on switch, press the 45° button, press the START button. Then close the door. The unit is very quiet but a red light shining on the floor indicates that the unit is on. When the red light goes off the dishwasher cycle has finished. 4 MicrowaveMicrowaveOven To operate the oven push the left hand button and select the desired operation: Eclairage Micro-ondes Micro-ondes+ Chal. tournante Micro-ondes + Grill Micro-ondes + TurboGril Chal. tournante Gril – – – – – – – Lighting Microwave Microwave + Fan Oven Microwave + Grill Microwave + Turbogrill Fan Oven Grill(!) We suggest that you use two settings; either Micro-ondes or Chal tournante Microwave: To use the microwave select Micro-ondes, push the right hand knob, press OK and then turn the right hand knob clockwise to the desired number of minutes. Fan - Oven: To use the oven select Chal. tournante, push the right hand knob, and with the right hand knob select the desired temperature. Nespresso The apartment is equipped with a Nespresso coffee machine, and you will find 10 x standard espresso capsules (purple) and 10 x decaffeinated espresso capsules (red). Should you need any additional capsules these can be purchased from the Nespresso shop on the rue des Belges in the Majestic Hotel building, PLEASE DO NOT USE THE ANY OTHER BRAND OF CAPSULES EXCEPT NESPRESSO IN THE MACHINE BECAUSE THEY GET STUCK. Internet The apartment is equipped with wi-fi broadband internet connection with unlimited free access, so feel free to use your own laptop. However, please bear in mind security considerations and that we cannot be held responsible for any loss or damage caused through use of the wi-fi broadband. SSID: Password: PurpleSki 1312111098765 Please under no circumstances switch off, unplug or hard reset the router. If you do reset the router this will result in a €250 deduction from you damage deposit. If you are having any problems with the internet connection please call Michael in the first instance on +44 (0)1885 488799. 5 Sky TV PLEASE DO NOT UNPLUG REMOVE OR CHANGE THE LOCATION OF ANY OF THE PLUGS, PLUGS, LEADS OR CABLES THAT MAKE UP THE SYSTEM. PLEASE DO NOT CHANGE ANY OF THE SETTINGS ON THE TELEVISION. PLEASE DO NOT TURN OFF OFF THE TELEVISION. ONLY PLACE THE TELEVISION IN STANDBY USING THE SKY REMOTE CONTROL. PLEASE DO NOT TOUCH OR CLEAN THE SCREEN. Sky free to air satellite channels are available on the television in the sitting room. For a list of these channels go to: www.sky.com/shop/tv/free-to-air-channels/. No French or other channels are available I am afraid. To use the TV simply select TV on the Sky remote, point the remote at the television and press the on/off button. The TV remote control is not needed to operate the system. The sound for the Sky and the DVD player is via the amplifier and is played back over the speakers. The television sound is only required if playing back movies from your iPad. PLEASE REDUCE THE SOUND TO A MINIMUM LEVEL BEFORE SWITCHING BETWEEN SOURCES. Video Images All video images are sent to the HDMI 1 input on the television. What is displayed on the television is controlled by the Marmitek switcher box (the top box with the small blue light) using the small black Marmitek remote control with an on/off button and the numbers 1 to 4 or the chrome button on the switcher box itself. Make sure that the Marmitek switcher is on (blue light showing). There is no need to turn this box off. Then select the required output on the Marmitek remote control as follows: Sky Box - select 1 DVD player - select 2 If you have plugged a personal device into the white HDMI lead select 3. REMEMBER THAT TO SWITCH CHANNELS AND CHANGE CHANGE THE VOLUME ON THE AMPLIFIER, AMPLIFIER, YOU NEED TO POINT THE REMOTE CONTROLS AT THE AMP/SKY BOX IN THE ALCOVE NOT AT THE TELEVISION. 6 Sound (TV) (TV) You can use the television for sound but you get better sound if you use the amplifier. Turn on the Denon amplifier with the remote control. Then select the required output on the Denon remote control as follows: Sky Box - select tuner DVD player select - Recorder 1 Sonos system - select CD You can listen to the sound, if you wish to (for example radio stations) without having the television on. If there is no picture/sound from the TV If there is no picture/sound from the TV try the following: 1. Pull the power lead from the back of the Sky box and leave like that for one minute. Plug it back in. 2. Ensure that the blue light is under "1" on the HDMI switcher (see Marmitek-connect410-hdmi-switcher). 3. Now switch the Sky box on so that the green light is showing on the right of the front of the box. (press the Sky button on the remote and then the power button). Don't do this immediately after (1) above as it takes a while for the Sky box to re-boot. 4. On the television remote (Samsung) find the source button and press this and select HDMI 1. You should get a Sky picture. If not please give me a call. 7 Sonos system The apartment is equipped with a Sonos system with zones in the sitting room, bedroom 1 and the kitchen. There is an iPod dock in the sitting room, which is connected to the Sonos system. The system is very intuitive. To use the system you will need the free app for iPad, iPhone, Mac or PC. From the app you can select which radio stations to listen or play your music library from you PC/Mac over the Sonos system or your iPod located in the iPod dock in the sitting room. You can have the same music or radio station playing in all of the zones or have a different source playing in each zone. If you wish to have the same source in each room simply use Party Mode under Rooms | Link Rooms menu on the PC app or Group on the iPad/iPhone app. For more help go to the Sonos Web Site at www.sonos.com/support/. Riviera Radio (a local, 100% English language radio station) can be found at 106.3 or 106.5Hz 8 Sky Remote Control Marmitek HDMI Switch Remote 9 Rubbish The nearest public rubbish bins are beside the Majestic Hotel; turn left out of the apartment, then right and you will see some large blue bins on the pavement. PLEASE REMOVE ALL RUBBISH FROM THE APARTMENT AT THE END OF YOUR STAY. Security Please ensure you close the door properly when entering/leaving the apartment. The front door at road level is self-closing; for the door to the apartment, please ensure that you pull the door closed behind you. If you wish to double-lock the door please use the keys provided. These are in the box to the right of the front door. On your departure, please remember to leave the keys on the hooks in the box to the right of the front door. (Missing / lost keys will be charged for.) A safe is available for your use in the apartment and we strongly recommend that you use it for any valuable personal items. The safe is located in the cupboard in bedroom 2. To operate, first choose a 4 digit code. Then, to close the safe door, enter the 4 digits of your personal code followed by “#”. To open the safe, enter the 4 digits of your personal code. PLEASE ENSURE THAT YOU LEAVE THE SAFE OPEN ON YOUR DEPARTURE Smoking Smoking is not permitted inside the apartment. If you wish to smoke, please use the balcony at the rear of the apartment (and an ash tray). If there are any signs of smoking inside the apartment a €250 deduction will be made from your security deposit. Water The main water stop cock is situated ON THE TOP FLOOR of the building to the left of the front door to apartment 4. 10 Telephone A telephone is provided for your use, which is enabled for local rate calls (e.g., to local restaurants, taxi companies etc). If you wish to make a call outside the area, overseas or to a mobile telephone, you will need to purchase a telephone card from the tabacs / newsagents in the town.
