It supports high-speed (480 Mbps), full-speed (12 Mbps), and low-speed (1.5 Mbps) data transfer modes. Note: Leave the product in its static-resistant bag until you are ready to install it. Caution: Static Electricity Discharge may permanently damage your system. To avoid possible static electricity discharge during the installation, please follow the guidelines below: Ÿ Discharge any static electricity build up in your body by touching a large grounded metal surface or the computer case (if plugged in), for a few seconds. Ÿ During the installation, avoid any contact with internal parts. Handle cards only by their external edges. 6 Hardware Installation General instructions for installing the card are provided below. Refer to your computer’s reference manual for further information, if needed. 1. Turn OFF the power to your computer. 2. Unplug the power cord and remove your computer's cover. 3. Remove the slot bracket from an available PCI slot. 4. Carefully align the card to the selected PCI slot and push the board down firmly, but gently, until it is well seated. 5. Replace the slot bracket's holding screw to secure the card. 6. Replace the computer cover and reconnect the power cord. 7 Driver Installation 7.1 Windows 98 SE Driver Installation 1. After installing the board, boot up your system. 2. At the Add New Hardware Wizard, click Next. 3. Choose Search for the best driver for you device (Recommended). Insert Driver Installation Diskette into floppy drive, and click Next. 4. Select Floppy disk, click Next. 5. While The updated driver (Recommended) VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller displays, click Next, Next and Finish. 6. While Add New Hardware Wizard displays VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller, click Next. 7. Choose Search for the best driver for you device (Recommended) and click Next. 8. Select Floppy disk, click Next. 9. While The updated driver (Recommended) VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller displays, click Next, Next and Finish 10. While Add New Hardware Wizard displays PCI Universal Serial Bus, click Next. 11. Choose Search for the best driver for you device (Recommended), and click Next. 12. Select Floppy disk, click Next, Next, Next and Finish. 7.2 Windows ME Driver Installation 1. After installing the board, boot up your system. 2. Once Windows has installed, double click MY Computer / Control Panel / System. Select Device Manager tab. 3. Double click !VIA Tech 3038 PCI to USB Universal Host Controller. 4. Select Driver tab and click Update Driver button. 5. Select Specify the location of the driver (Advanced), then click Next. 6. Check Removable Media [Floppy, CD-ROM… ], Insert Driver Installation Diskette into floppy drive and click Next. 7. When VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller displays, click Next, and then click Finish. Remove Driver Installation Diskette, click Y to reboot your system. Your USB 2.0 PCI Host Adapter is ready now. 7.3 Windows 2000 Driver Installation 1. After installing the board, boot up your system. 2. When Found New Hardware Wizard displays, click Next. 3. While Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller displays, choose Search for a suitable driver for my device (Recommended), then click Next. 4. Insert Driver Installation Diskette into floppy drive. 5. Choose Floppy disk drives, click Next, Next, and Finish. Your USB 2.0 PCI Host Adapter is ready now. 7.4 Windows XP Driver Installation 1. After installing the board, boot up your system. 2. While Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller displays, choose install the software automatically (Recommended). Insert Driver Installation Diskette into floppy drive, then click Next. 3. While Hardware installation displays VIA USB 2.0 Enhanced Host Controller, press Continue Anyway and then Finish. 4. When USB 2.0 Root Hub Device displays, choose install the software automatically (Recommended), and then click Next. 5. While Hardware installation displays USB 2.0 Root Hub Device, click Continue Anyway and then Finish. Your USB 2.0 PCI Host Adapter is ready now. Empty page 5303-0173-1
