6000 Series Patch Panel Terminating Instructions INTRODUCTION The 6000 Series patch panels include a unique feature not found on any other patch panel. This feature allows you to angle each of the four six-pack connector modules independently to the right or to the left as shown in Figure 1. The angled action helps insure signal integrity by providing superior strain relief for patch cords and rear cabling. Please read the following instructions carefully, as they will help with installation procedure and replacement directions.

MOUNTING THE PANEL Mount the patch panel horizontally into any 19-inch (48.3-cm) rack or wall mount unit that uses the EIA standard hole pattern. Use the four 12-24 screws supplied to mount the panel.
2
ROUTING CABLE After choosing a cable routing plan, route the cables in the rear of the panel. For example, Figure 2 shows the cabling arrangement in which connector blocks are angled to the right and to the left. Allow for slack necessary to rotate the connector modules after termination.
Figure 2. Modules Angled Right and Left
Note: Terminate all cabling at the rear punch-down block’s prior to angling the connectors. Do not dress in the cable prior to terminating the connectors. Also, allow for slack necessary to rotate the connector modules after termination.
3
CABLE PREPARATION Cut each cable 2 to 3 inches (5 to 8 cm) beyond the point of termination. Remove 0.50 inches (1.2 cm) of cable jacket, but do not untwist any of the pairs. Fan out four wire pairs into a pitchfork type arrangement according to the desired wiring scheme.
4
CABLE TERMINATION Note: If the wire pairs do not route from the middle of the connector module outward, the wires will interfere with the panel frame when the connector modules are rotated. Route the individual wire pairs from the middle of the connector module outwards. Insert individual wires into the punch-down block positions so that the cable jacket is within 0.50 inches of the connection. Align the wire color relative to the color-coded designation label as per the desired wiring scheme (T568A or T568B). See Figure 3. Minimize untwisting the wire pairs during the wire insertion step. Use a standard 110I impact tool to terminate and trim conductors.

ROTATING CONNECTOR MODULES After terminating the cable to the connector modules, you are ready to rotate the connector modules in the desired direction. On the rear side of the patch panel, a locking pin is centered on each side of the connector modules as shown in Figure 4. These pins lock the connector modules into place for cable termination. Using a small flat tipped screw driver, unlock the connector modules by turning all locking pins clockwise or counter clockwise so that the slot is perfectly horizontal. After turning the locking pins, the modules are free to rotate either to the right or left depending on how you configured the cabling layout. Note: If the connector modules do not rotate freely, make sure the locking pin slots on both sides of the connector modules are perfectly horizontal or something is not obstructing the modules in the front of the panel. Rotate the modules until they reach the positive stop location and lock the modules into place by turning the locking pin so that the slot is vertical. Note: If the pins do not rotate so that the slot is vertical, the modules are not pushed far enough in the positive stop position. Dress the cables as needed.

ORDERING INFORMATION Purchase colored icons separately to snap into the fronts of the connector module to help identify circuits. The icons are available in the standard EIA 606 colors and with either data or voice symbols. Icons come in packs of 24. Use the information in Tables 1, 2, and 3 for ordering. Table 1.
