6004 and 6008 Wave Division Multiplexer Installation Guide Canoga Perkins Corporation, 20600 Prairie Street, Chatsworth, CA 91311-6008 Phone: (818) 718-6300, FAX (818) 718-6312 www.canoga.com P/N 6912373 Rev D Overview This document provides steps necessary to install and configure Canoga Perkins’ passive CWDM products correctly. The passive CWDMs come in variations of 4, 5, 8 and 9 channels. The 4 and 5 channel versions occupy one slot in the UCS 1000, UCS 1001 and UCS 1050 chassis while the 8 and 9 channel versions occupy two slots in the UCS 1000 chassis only. All connections are made from the front of the units and the optical ports are marked “Tx” for transmit and “Rx” for receive. Installation Ensure that there is no visible damage to the CWDM module. Insert the CWDM module into any slot in the chassis. See figures 1 through 3. The optical ports are clearly marked “Tx,” (transmit) “Rx,” (receive) “the optical wavelength,” and “Composite.” Using a singlemode optical jumper, connect the Remote Tx of the active CWDM transponder to the Rx of the corresponding 6004 or 6008 optical port. Use another singlemode optical jumper to connect the Remote Rx of the active CWDM transponder to the Tx of the 6004 or 6008 optical port. For the Composite port of the 6004 or 6008 CWDM mux/demux, connect the Tx and Rx ports as shown in figure 4.
