Security measures include but are not limited to the following: • Separation from the library’s public wireless network. • SSID transmission suppression so that the access point is not readily visible or likely to be used by library patrons. • Either WPA or WEP encryption, with encryption key rotation and/or MAC address filtering. • If financial transactions using credit or debit cards are implemented, the library must conform to Payment Card Industry (PCI) data security standards (DSS) developed by the PCI Standards Council. Requirements can be found at http://www.pcisecuritystandards.org/ . The SelfCheck™ system must be located within optimal operational range of the wireless access point, as determined by access point signal strength, which can be analyzed and measured using software installed with the wireless network adapter. • Transmitted signal strength from the wireless access point must be greater than -27dBm as measured at the installed location of the SelfCheck system. • Software RSSI (received signal strength indicator) must show greater than 90% signal strength (all five bars of RSSI are green) at the installed location of the SelfCheck system. The following can help ensure required signal strength at the SelfCheck location: • Install the SelfCheck™ system within twenty feet (20 ft. [6 m]) of the wireless access point. • Install the SelfCheck™ system in line-of-sight of the wireless access point, with little or no metal between the two. This will reduce radio-frequency interference or multi-path distortion effects. © 3M, 2012. They enable customers to make cash payments at the SelfCheck™ system. They should be located next to the SelfCheck™ systems they serve. If the unit is placed close to a wall or other vertical surface, do not bolt it in place. • Away from direct sunlight. (When selecting the location, remember that the angle of the sun changes with the seasons.) • So that the RFID reader pad can be placed at least 3 inches (7,6 cm) from any metal (which includes metal in the tabletop) 78-8129-4303-9C © 3M, 2012. All rights reserved. 11 SelfCheck System R-Series Models 8420, 8421 and 8422 Site Planning Guide Location recommendations 3M recommends that you locate: • The system near an exit, in an area visible to patrons and staff (who can monitor use and offer assistance) • The system in an area with sufficient space for carts and other carrying devices. • Multiple system configurations  In an area with adequate space to set up systems identically. This provides a uniform environment for patrons.  With a minimum separation of 44 inches (111,8 cm) on center (as shown) when tabletop multiple systems are placed on a single desktop. This provides adequate workspace for customers.  With adequate room to access the printer when tabletop systems are placed back-to-back Multiple tabletop system spacing 22.0 in (min) 55,9 cm 44.0 in (min) 111,8 cm 44.0 in (min) 111,8 cm 22.0 in (min) 55,9 cm SC_8420_tabletop_system_distance_recommend 78-8129-4303-9C © 3M, 2012. In some situations, these distances may not be sufficient, though this can only be determined on-site. Specific systems may have additional requirements regarding cable routing, power supplies, other sources of interference and space for clearance for maintenance, workflow, and other considerations. See the sections that address these issues in the applicable Site Planning Guide or Architect/Contractor’s Package 811 812 813 814 946 SelfCheck 895 2800† 3100† Lyngsoe Systems† 877 plastic chute 877 metal chute 8800 8900 8900B 9900 9100 811 812 813 814 946 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 8.2 ft. 2,5 m 3 ft. 91 cm SelfCheck 895 2 ft. 61 cm 4ft.** 1,2 m 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 8.2 ft. 2,5 m 3 ft. 91 cm 2800 3100 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 8.2 ft. 2,5 m 3 ft. 91 cm Lyngsoe System 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 4 ft. 1,2 m 4 ft. 1,2 m 3 ft. 91 cm 15 ft. 4,6 m 3 ft. 91 cm 877 plastic chute 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 4 ft. 1,2 m 4 ft. 1,2 m 4 ft. 1,2 m 4 ft. 1,2 m 15 ft. 4,6 m 4 ft. 1,2 m 877 metal chute 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 2 ft. 61 cm 4 ft. 1,2 m 4 ft. 1,2 m 1 ft. 30 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 15 ft. 4,6 m 3 ft. 91 cm 8800 3 ft. 91 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 4 ft. 1,2 m 3 ft. 91 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 15 ft. 4,6 m 3 ft. 91 cm 8900 8900B 9900 8.2 ft. 2,5 m 8.2 ft. 2,5 m 8.2 ft. 2,5 m 15 ft. 4,6 m 15 ft. 4,6 m 15 ft. 4,6 m 15 ft. 4,6 m 15 ft * 4,6 m 15 ft 4,6 m 9100 3 ft. 91 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 4 ft. 1,2 m 3 ft. 91 cm 3 ft. 91 cm 15 ft * 4,6 m 5 ft # 1,5 m * Model 8900 systems can be placed closer than 15 feet [4,6 m] apart when they are connected by sync cable. For SelfCheck™ units enclosed in a cabinet, there are no distance restrictions. # This restriction can be worked around by creating a single large system by running lattice to lattice cables between “systems.” This combined system cannot exceed eight lattices. † Measurement is from the RFID reader. Tabletop mounting requirements The tabletop (Model 8422) must be placed on a table, counter, or cabinet supplied by the library. The table must meet the following requirements: • Be sturdy enough to support the SelfCheck system • Be designed so that the SelfCheck system cannot slide off or be pushed onto the floor • Meet the height requirements of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) when the SelfCheck system is placed on the table Table dimensions Height 28.0 inches (71.1 cm) recommended for ADA compliance Width • Minimum: 19.0 inches (48.3 cm) • Recommended: 36.0 inches (91.4 cm) and 46.0 inches (116.8 cm) if used with Mediacheck unit. • Minimum: 28.0 inches (71.1 cm) • Recommended: 30.0 inches (76.2 cm) Depth 78-8129-4303-9C © 3M, 2012.
