Welcome 2 Navigating the menus This Quick Start Guide provides all the information you need to get your product up and running. Please fully unfold this guide and follow the numbered steps below. KEY LOCK? 1 Getting started 3 Making and receiving calls Place your BT Freestyle 650 close enough to a mains power and telephone socket so that the cables will reach. Make/end a call The handset range is up to 300 metres outdoors and 50 metres indoors (in ideal conditions). The icon indicates when you are in range, it flashes when you go out of range. Try to position the phone at least 1 metre away from other electrical appliances to avoid interference and help maximise the handset range. 1. Press , listen for the dialling tone, then dial the number. To end the call, press again, or replace the handset on the base or charger. Preparatory dialling 1. Enter the number first. If you make a mistake, press 2. Press Setting up to delete the last digit. to dial. Earpiece volume During a call, you can use the and buttons to adjust the volume of the caller’s voice in the earpiece. There are 5 volume levels – the default is level 3. 1. Plug the power adaptor and telephone cable into the back of the base. Only use the cables provided with the product. Receiving calls 2. Plug the power adaptor into the mains power wall socket and switch the power on. The green Power light and the red Messages light on the base will come on and the answering machine outgoing message will be announced. When you receive a call, the base and handset will ring. Telephone line cord Mains power adaptor 3. Place the battery ribbon in the base of the handset battery compartment and insert the two batteries supplied observing the polarity markings. Then slide the battery compartment cover into place. 4. Place the handset on the base to charge, the red Charging indicator will light up and you will hear a beep. In the handset display you will see an animated icon which shows the handset is charging. Charge the handset for at least 24 hours before first use. 5. Once fully charged, plug the telephone line cord into the telephone wall socket. Set up your additional handsets (2, 3 and 4-Pack owners only) 1. For each additional handset, plug the power adaptor into the back of the charger and plug the other end into the mains wall socket and switch the power on. 2. Insert the batteries into the handset, as detailed in point 3 above, and place the handset on the charger. The red Charging indicator will light up and the animated icon will be displayed. Charge the handset for at least 24 hours before first use. Each handset will display its handset number: 1, 2, 3 and so on. 1. To answer the call press answer the call. . Or if the handset is on the base or charger, simply lift it to Handset ringer volume When the phone is ringing, you can use the and buttons to adjust the handset ringer volume. There are 5 volume levels, or you can switch the ringer off. Handsfree 1. Press the button on the side of the handset, listen for the dial tone then dial the number. When handsfree is on, the icon is displayed. At any time during the call, press to switch between handsfree and the handset. 4 Special features Your BT Freestyle 650 has some special features including a 30 number phonebook, an answering machine and a calls list. Phonebook Set the day and time using the handset You can store up to 30 of your most frequently used names and numbers in the phonebook to make dialling quick and easy. When you listen to your messages or memos, the date and time of the recording is announced, so before you receive your first message or memo you need to set the correct date and time. Add a new phonebook entry 1. Press , scroll to PHONEBOOK and press Set the day 1. Press , scroll 2. The display shows ADD ENTRY. Press 2. Scroll 3. Use to DAY SETTING and press and . . The current day is displayed. to select the required day and press Set the time 1. Press , scroll 2. Scroll to TAM SETTINGS and press to DATE-TIME and press to CLOCK SET and press to confirm. . . The current time is displayed. 3. Use the keypad to enter the correct time in 24-hour format, eg. 1830 for 6.30pm. Press to confirm. Dial a phonebook entry 1. Press . Entries are displayed alphabetically. 2. Enter the first letter of the name you want using the keypad, then scroll to the exact entry using and . Press to dial the number. 7/1/08 11:07:26 Answering machine After following the ‘Getting started’ section, your BT Freestyle 650 answering machine will be set to Answer on and is ready to start receiving messages. Press to switch the answering machine on and off. You can select one of the pre-recorded outgoing messages – answer & record or answer only or you can record your own personalised outgoing message. Press to hear your current outgoing message. Troubleshooting Most problems are caused by something very simple and can be fixed with a few simple checks: • Make sure both the mains power adaptor cable and telephone line cord are plugged into the correct sockets and plugged in at the wall. • Make sure you use all the cables and batteries (if supplied) that came in the box, not those from a previous product. You can also record memo messages for other users, screen calls and you can operate the answering machine remotely. For detailed instructions of all the answering machine features see the online user guide at www.bt.com/help/userguides • If you experience poor speech quality or interference, make sure the product is not located too close to other electrical appliances. This can also help improve the handset range from the base. Listening to your messages/memos When you have messages recorded on your answering machine, the Messages light on the base will flash. • Make sure you charge the batteries for at least 24 hours before first use to ensure maximum battery performance. The charge capacity of the batteries will decrease over time. At the base, press to hear any new messages, or press and hold all messages. The oldest message is played first. Using your BT Freestyle 650 on a broadband Internet enabled line? Remember to plug the phone into the wall socket via an ADSL microfilter if you have broadband Internet on your phone line, otherwise you may have problems with this product and your broadband service. Additional BT ADSL microfilters can be purchased from www.shop.bt.com to hear During playback, press: or to adjust the loudspeaker volume. to pause/resume playback. Caller Display and the calls list You must subscribe to a Caller Display service for this feature to work. Your network provider may charge you for this service. Caller Display allows you to see who is calling you before you answer the phone. The calls list holds details of your last 40 callers, including the phone number, date and time of the call. If a number matches a stored phonebook entry, the caller’s name and number will be shown alternately in the display. The calls list also alerts you to missed calls – the To access and dial from the calls list 1. Press to open the calls list. Use To view further details of a call, press 2. To exit the calls list, press Guarantee Your BT Freestyle 650 is guaranteed for a period of 12 months from the date of purchase. Subject to the terms listed below, the guarantee will provide for the repair of, or at BT’s or its agent’s discretion the option to replace the BT Freestyle 650, or any component thereof, (other than batteries), which is identified as faulty or below standard, or as a result of inferior workmanship or materials. Products over 28 days old from the date of purchase may be replaced with a refurbished or repaired product.
