Replacement Fan Module for the Hotwire 8800 DSLAM Installation Instructions Document Number 8800-A2-GN12-10 May 1999
What is the Fan Module? The fan module is a dedicated cooling device installed in the Hotwire 8800 DSLAM chassis to provide cooling for the circuit cards. It consists of a custom plug-in tray of six fans, each with a tachometer lead. The fans draw air into the 8800 chassis from the front and sides, force it up through the card cage, and exhaust it out the upper rear of the unit. The total airflow provided is 660 cfm. The module is powered by – 48 Vdc which is derived from the backplane of the Hotwire 8800 DSLAM chassis. Maximum total power consumption is 38 watts. A control circuit is mounted on the module so that if a fan failure occurs, a signal is sent to the MCC and the amber Fan ALARM LED on the chassis is lighted. Tracks below the fan tray allow for an air filter to be added. The fan module, including the air filter if fitted with one, weighs 4.5 lbs. The entire module slides on tracks and can easily be removed and reinstalled.
