The 8812-x single wide PMC form factor easily integrates onto host CPU PMC sites and carrier boards to build powerful protocol processing solutions addressing high-density SS7, wireless, wireline and network convergence applications. Providing a wide range of carrier-class features and flexible technology, the 8812-x is a simple and effective way to reduce time-to-market and development costs. The 8812-x is a 128 channel communications controller offering SS7, HDLC and transparent mode protocol support. It incorporates onboard CSU/DSU functionality to complement a variety of architectures including CompactPCI, PCI or VME. Software Selectable Modes The 8812 delivers one, two or four ports with a dedicated PMC-Sierra COMET framer with integrated LIU supporting software selectable T1/E1 and J1 modes and a wide range of line buildouts, line codings, framing formats and clocking options. Line buildouts from DSX to DS-1 with up to 48db of cable attenuation are supported. The 8812-x can frame to D4, SF, ESF, SLC-96 and Japanese JT-G704 (J1) frame formats. Selectable clocking options include distributed central office clock with DPLL and onboard fallback oscillators. Three HDLC controllers are provided per port for terminating ESF data link and
V.5 C channels. Industrial Strength Features Its one, two or four T1/E1/J1 ports are front panel accessible through shielded RJ- 48c connectors for easy cabling and low emissions. Full onboard CSU/DSU secondary protection circuits provide lightning immunity and surge suppression on all ports. Extended Functionality The 8812-x uses a Conexant MUSYCC communication controller to provide HDLC and Transparent Mode protocol processing and support for SS7 simultaneously on up to 128 links. SS7 message filtering, retransmission and Signal Unit Error Rate Monitoring are selectable on a per link basis. Both hyperchannels and subchannels are supported in all modes. The MUSYCC uses multi ring descriptor based DMA with interrupts for efficient PCI Bus utilization. PCI Bus access is through the MUSYCC’s integrated 32-bit, 33MHz PCI interface using 3.3V signaling and power. It acts as a PCI master for DMA access and as a PCI slave for access to the framers and clocking control registers. PCI slave access to an EEPROM storing vendor ID, factory serial number, revision code, and user data is provided for easy in-system tracking and identification. Remote Version Query The 8812-x has serial EEPROM accessible remotely from a host to permit interrogation of the board, both to identify a particular device by its unique serial number and other board-specific hardware attributes such as manufacturing revision level.
