C. Control and Signal Modules BPS26—Discrete PROFIBUS with 26 Pin Pass-through Module 1.
Product Overview The Discrete PROFIBUS Pass-through Modules are required to provide a means for the customer to communicate through the Tool Changer. Refer to Section 8—Drawing for wiring information. PROFIBUS connectors are provided for interfacing on the Master and Tool modules. When the Tool Changer is coupled, the Master and Tool electrical modules communicate with each other using a spring-loaded pin block. A flexible boot surrounds the pin block to seal the connection from moisture and liquid while coupled. An additional pin block is provided to allow up to 26 pass-through signals. This pin block is also fitted with spring pins and a seal to protect from moisture and liquid when coupled. 5-pin PROFIBUS (B-Coded)

Installation The Discrete PROFIBUS Pass-through Modules are typically installed by ATI prior to shipment. The steps below outline the field installation or removal as required. DANGER: Power and air should always be removed prior to maintenance or repair.

Installing 1.
It may be necessary to clean the mounting surface on the Tool Changer prior to installing the module in order to remove any debris that may be present.

The BPS26 requires an adapter assembly when mounting to the Tool Changer. This adapter ® assembly is installed to the Tool Changer first. Apply Loctite-222 (or similar) thread locker to the socket head cap screws and tighten using a hex key.

Mount the BPS26 to the adapter assembly. Apply Loctite-222 (or similar) thread locker to the socket head cap screws and tighten using a hex key.

Removal 1.
All customer connections up to the module need to be disconnected.

Remove the socket head cap screws and pull the module off the Tool Changer.

If necessary, remove the adapter assembly. The BPS26 requires this adapter assembly when mounting to the Tool Changer.
Operation BPS26-M Discrete PROFIBUS Pass-through Module passes signals to the tool module when coupled.

Maintenance Contact pins on the control module should be inspected and cleaned periodically to ensure electrical continuity is maintained. Care should be taken not to bend or pull out the contacts when cleaning. Do not use an abrasive media to clean the contact pins as erosion may occur to the contact surface.

Troubleshooting Symptom Loss of Communication
Possible Cause / Correction Check/Replace cabling up- and down-stream of the Tool Changer modules. Inspect Discrete PROFIBUS Pass-through Module contact pins for debris/wear.
