There are 3 common hot water systems in the UK, these are: Gravity system The most common UK installation; a low pressure system that uses a cold water tank, normally in the loft space or airing cupboard. To get hot water you have to set a timer to heat the cold water tank. If water pressure is an issue, a gravity system can be fitted with a booster pump to increase the shower performance on non-pumped shower systems. Combination boiler A mains cold water fed, high pressured system that instantaneously heats the mains cold water. This system requires no cold or hot water storage tanks and no timer as hot water is available on demand. Pressurised/unvented system Becoming more popular with new build homes, this high pressure system stores hot water under mains pressure requiring no cold water storage in the loft.
