ABS™ Tester (Almost a Butt Set) The IDEAL ABS™ Tester (Almost a Butt Set) is a simple-to-use, pocket-sized tester for basic troubleshooting of analog voice system installations and maintenance. It monitors phone lines for dial tone quality and presence of power, detects tracing tone signal to locate cables, and tests for correct jack polarity (detects reversed tip and ring). • Green NORM LED will light if the line under test has DC power and is wired correctly.
Uses • Provides hands-free monitoring of dial tone quality. • For basic troubleshooting of communication systems.
• Red REV LED will light if tip and ring polarity are reversed.
Line status: Both NORM and REV LEDs will be illuminated if AC voltage is present. Both NORM and REV LEDs will flash if the line is ringing for phone number verification.

Features • Receives and reproduces telephone system dial tone (LISTEN function in off-hook mode). • Volume control to adjust test and dial tones. • Test pads for clip lead access connected to two center pins of ABS RJ-11 jack.

• 60 cycle noise rejection for clear tone detection. • Receives tracing signals for identifying specific conductors in a cable run. (TRACE function requires separate tone generator. Use IDEAL Tone Generator, 62-100, or PathFinder™ Tester, 62-080, with integral tone generator.)
