ACOM M47 MICR Printer FAQs ■ Can I just put MICR toner in a basic HP laser printer or any other monochrome laser printer? Some accounts will pursue that option but they face two significant risks. First, they may encounter MICR quality issues that cause their checks to be rejected by the bank, who in turn will levy charges for “excessive rejected checks”. Secondly, quality issues increase the risk of check fraud. Any check not properly read by the banks high speed reader sorters, will take longer to clear – one of the tactics used in check fraud. When dealing with negotiable documents like checks, CFO’s and Controllers understand the risks and understand the value of owning a true MICR printer.
■ Why do I have to buy ACOM MICR toner? ACOM MICR toner is manufactured and tested to pass all ABA bank standards as to reflectivity, adhesion and readability by the large bank scanners. Additionally, we install a MICR sensor in the printers and toner cartridges which act as a security feature. The printer must have a MICR toner cartridge inserted when operating in the MICR mode, and a non MICR cartridge when operating in a non MICR mode. This is an important security feature that helps protect against check fraud.
■ Who does the support? ACOM provides direct support to end users and resellers and is the first line point of contact. Any incident that requires on site services will be provided by authorized Okidata services providers, dispatched by ACOM.
■ 24x7x4hr? No, our normal support hours are 6:00AM to5:00PM pacific.
■ Warranty – Isn’t first year included? The warranty that comes with the printer is from the manufacturer for a non MICR printer. It does not apply to the MICR version. MICR printing requires modified toner and in some cases modifications to the native printers. ACOM offers a four (4) year MICR guarantee on their printers if our maintenance services, MICR toner and ACOM approved check stock are used.
■ What does the maintenance cover? Hardware maintenance covers the MICR performance of the ACOM MICR printer, ACOM MICR toner, ACOM Safety Check Stock and covers any bank charges for excessive check rejects. ACOM will repair or replace parts or printer during the maintenance period.
■ Freight – Isn’t freight included? No, freight is not included.
■ Toner Yield The toner yield is published for each MICR printer model. The ACOM M47 has a 20,000 page yield at 5% coverage.
■ Does the price of the MICR printer include a MICR cartridge? o
No, MICR printers and cartridges are priced separately.

■ How to re-order toner MICR toner may be reordered via the phone, fax, email or through our ACOM storefront at www.orderprintersupplies.com.
■ How do they pay for it? New customers require a 33% deposit plus credit information for 30 day open account status.
■ What about signature and MICR fonts? ACOM handles fonts for over 350 financial applications. If the customer is using PeopleSoft or SAP, we need to know that up front as they may require special font development.

■ Can I send you one of my printers to retrofit for MICR? We do not field retrofit printers.
■ Can I trade in one of my printers? ACOM does not offer trade-ins as we are not in the used MICR printer market.

■ How long before you ship the printer? Normally we ship within 10 days. Under certain circumstances we can juggle the schedule to meet a customer’s specific needs.
■ Can I get a printer to test first? ACOM’s Total Satisfaction Guarantee allows you to return the printer within 30 days for full credit except for any opened toner cartridge and freight charges.
