Key Features Balun transmits video signals up to 5000 feet (1524 m). Balun also acts as a surge suppressor. Hubs support distances up to 4500 feet (1371.6 m). Select from two UTP/UTP or UTP/Coax hubs. Works with our passive baluns. Automatically adjusts the video signal based on actual cable conditions. 1 6/2/2005 #10157 se unshielded twisted-pair (UTP) cable instead of the more expensive coaxial cable to connect CCTV cameras, monitors, DVR, switches, multiplexors, and other CCTV equipment together. You’ll need an Active CCTV Receiver Balun (IC453A) or 16-Port Hub (IC454A, IC454AE, IC455A, or IC455AE) at one end of the connection and a passive CCTV balun (IC440A , IC444A, IC451A, or IC452A) at the camera end. Using the balun, CCTV video signals can be transmitted up to 5000 feet (1524 m) over Category 5 UTP cable. With the hub, video signals can travel up to 4500 feet (1371.6 m) via CAT5 cable. Picture brightness, sharpness, and contrast are all supported thanks to the balun or hub’s Automatic Gain Control (AGC) feature. The balun or hub automatically adjusts these video signal characteristics based on U actual cable conditions (cable grade, distance, and environmental effects on the cable). This reduces on-site service calls, since you can adjust the picture at the camera, monitor, multiplexor, or DVR end. For the balun, you’ll need a 24-volt, 2-watt AC or DC power supply (not included). The hub includes a 24-VAC, 40-VA power supply. The balun and hub also provide Ground Loop Blocking (GLB) to give you secure, reliable, and stable data transmission and images. The balun attaches directly to the CCTV receiver equipment. And a VELCRO pad is included for optional surface mounting. After it’s installed, the balun or hub operates unattended. The balun also provides screw terminals with built-in strain relief, surge protection, an automatically resetting fuse, and diagnostic LEDs. ® For larger installations, chose the 16-Port Active CCTV Receiver Hub (IC454A, IC454AE, IC455A, IC455AE). It lets you cable your system with Category 5 UTP from a central location. Installations include CCTV cameras, DVRs, monitors, switches, multiplexors, and other CCTV equipment. The IC454A has UTP screw terminals on both input and output ports, and it uses a 110-VAC power supply. The IC454AE is the same as the IC454A, except that it uses a 240-VAC power supply. The IC455A and IC455AE have UTP screw terminals on the input port and coax cable on the output port. One model (IC455A) uses a 110-VAC power supply and the other (IC455AE) uses a 240-VAC power supply The hub mounts in a rack or on a wall (using the attached mounting brackets), or on the desktop (via the included rubber feet). A typical application for the IC453A is shown in the diagram at right. Exceptional Value. Exceptional Tech Support. Period. Recognize any of these situations? • You wait more than 30 minutes to get through to a vendor’s tech support. • The so-called “tech” can’t help you or gives you the wrong answer. 3 • You don’t have a purchase order number and the tech refuses to help you. • It’s 9 p. m. and you need help, but your vendor’s tech support line is closed. According to a survey by Data Communications magazine, 90% of network managers surveyed say that getting the technical support they need is extremely important when choosing a vendor. But even though network managers pay anywhere from 10 to 20% of their overall purchase price for a basic service and support contract, the technical support and service they receive falls far short of their expectations—and certainly isn’t worth what they paid. At Black Box, we guarantee the best value and the best support. You can even consult our Technical Support Experts before you buy if you need help selecting just the right component for your application. Don’t waste time and money—call Black Box today.
