ACX 700 Installation Guide
Setting Up the ACX 700 Controller and Infinet The ACX 700 is a building access controller that can control access to two doors. You can use it to control access through up to four doors by attaching two EMX 190 modules to the ACX 700. You may set up access through either Wiegand or ABA card readers, which read access cards, or security keypads, which accept access codes. You may also use both the card reader and the security keypad together, for extra tight security. This manual covers the following: • Site/System Setup Requirements • Installing the ACX 700 • Powering Up the ACX 700
Warranty Registration Your warranty is effective for 18 months starting on the date the system is shipped.

Site/System Setup Requirements Before you proceed to install the system, you should map out where you plan to install each controller, terminal/workstation, and modem. When planning the sites, be aware of any electrical interference that may occur. You also need to be aware of cabinet dimensions, power requirements, cable limitations, and environmental requirements.
Note This equipment has been tested and found to comply with the limits for a Class A digital device, pursuant to Part 15 of the FCC Rules. These limits are designed to provide reasonable protection against harmful interference when the equipment is operated in a commercial environment. This equipment generates, uses, and can radiate radio frequency energy and, if not installed and used in accordance with the instructions in this manual, may cause harmful interference to radio communications. Operation of this equipment in a residential area is likely to cause harmful interference in which case the user will be required to correct the interference at his own expense.
Note This digital apparatus does not exceed the Class A limits for radio noise emissions from digital apparatus set out in the Radio Interference Regulations of the Canadian Department of Communications.

Controller Dimensions and Weight Each ACX 700 is 19 × 15 × 4.56 in. (483 × 381 × 116) and weighs 17 lbs. (7.73 kg).
Power Requirements Caution The ACX 700 should receive power from its own independent, unswitched circuit. You can choose to connect AC power or a 12 VDC uninterrupted power supply (UPS), but not both. Instructions for how to connect the 12 VDC UPS are included later, with the installation instructions. To maintain the UL listing of your system, you should use a power supply listed by UL under APHV. If you choose AC power, you can select an AC power supply voltage of 24 V, 115 V, or 230 V. You receive it set to 115 V. Instructions for selecting the power supply you want are included later, with the installation instructions. AC voltages you can select are as follows (each uses a 3 A slow blow fuse): • 24 VAC 50/60 Hz • 115 VAC 50/60 Hz • 230 VAC 50/60 Hz The ACX 700 consumes 20 VA of power at 115/230 VAC and consumes 50 VA of power at 12 VDC/24 VAC.

Cable Limitations The maximum cable length for all buses is 4,000 ft. (1,200 m) at 19,200 baud (up to 32 Infinet controllers). You can extend buses beyond 4,000 ft. or put more than 32 Infinet controllers on less than 4,000 ft. by using the InfiLink 200 amplification module.
Note You must use shielded cables for Infinet to ensure compliance with the Class A FCC limits and to provide reliable communications. Cables that form Infinet are 24-gauge (0.25 mm), single-twisted-pair, tinned, shielded copper wire. Use the following cables1 or their equivalents: • Brand Rex # H 9002 (single-pair) • Anixter # 9J2401021 (single-pair plenum cable) The cable should have a nominal impedance of 100 Ohms and a nominal velocity of propagation of 78%. Capacitance of Infinet cable should be nominal, below 12.5 pF/ft (41 pF/m) between conductors and below 22 pF/ft (72 pF/m) between the conductor connected to ground and the next conductor.
Lightning Protection Lightning Arrestors are required at each point where an Infinet or other wiring (such as for a card reader) enters or exits a building. Use the following arrestor: Two pair combination gas tube/silicon avalanche arrestor, Andover Controls # 01-2100-299.

Building Ground Requirements Warning Be sure that all Infinity products from Andover Controls Corporation are grounded to true earth ground. This kind of ground protects the equipment from transients and other power surges in the area. We cannot guarantee that the controller system will operate as documented unless you properly ground all controllers.
Warning Grounding should be in accordance with article 240 of the National Electrical Code. Be sure to have your grounds inspected before you begin the installation process to be sure your municipality follows the National Electrical Code. Many municipalities do not and often have substandard electrical grounds. An example of a substandard ground is a galvanized steel cold water pipe. As the pipe corrodes, it does not act as a true ground. The corrosion acts as an insulator, raising the potential of the pipe with respect to the ground. When lightning strikes in the area of the installation, it drastically changes the potential of the earth. Since properly grounded Andover Controls units respond to changes in potential more rapidly than poorly grounded electrical systems, a poorly grounded building tries to reach ground through the Andover Controls system. The surge of current can destroy electronic components on the controller board. Surges of much lower potential than lightning also impact the reliability of Andover Controls equipment.

Inspecting the Ground You can check your ground as follows: 1. Check your ground by first inspecting the building power distribution panel for earth ground termination. If the ground termination is any of the following, it is not adequate and must be corrected: • Does not exist. • Is connected to a corroded or galvanized pipe. • Is connected using a small gauge wire thinner than 14 AWG (16 or 18 AWG, for example, or less than 2.5 mm2). 2. Be sure your Andover Controls cabinet is connected to the ground with a copper conductor that terminates at the distribution panel.
Environmental Requirements The ACX 700 operates in rooms with temperatures ranging from 32 to 120°F (0° to 49°C) and with humidity between 10 and 95%, noncondensing.
Enclosure Requirements If you did not purchase the Andover Controls cabinet, you purchased the open class controller. The open class controller must be in an Underwriters Laboratories listed enclosure that is a minimum of 12.75 × 30 × 2.75 in. (324 × 762 × 70 mm).
Special Wire for Card Reader Inputs We recommend a five-conductor, 22-gauge (0.35 mm2) shielded wire for wiring card reader inputs. Table 1 shows the various card brands and the maximum length for #18 gauge wire (1.0 mm2), then for #22 gauge (0.35 mm2) wire.

Special Wiring for Keypad Inputs We recommend eight-conductor, 18-gauge shielded wire for wiring keypad inputs except for the Essex unit, which requires two extra wires bringing its total to ten conductors. 8-conductor, shielded 10-conductor, shielded for Essex Touch Pads You can extend the length of this cable up to 500 ft.
Output Requirements Two of the outputs are door outputs that control a door through a card reader or keypad access. Each output is a Form C relay rated at 24 VAC, 5 A. You wire these outputs just as you would a digital/pulsed output. Resolution of the output is 0.1 sec. You may choose to manually override the output by setting the OVERRIDE switch to ON or OFF. Or you can set it to AUTO to have the card reader control access through the door. The OVERRIDE LED indicates at least one of the door outputs is on manual control; the DOOR OPEN LED indicates the door is open. The third output is an auxiliary output, also a Form C relay rated at 24 VAC, 5 A. You may want to use this output for a bell or other audio alarm indicator.

Input Requirements Caution Andover Controls inputs are designed to be used with the specified card readers, two-wire door switches, two-wire motion sensors, and other two-wire input devices; they do not provide sufficient power to operate sensors requiring an external power supply of 12 or 24 VAC/DC. Each ACX 700 controller has the following inputs: • Two card reader inputs that receive either the Wiegand format or the standard ABA format. You set the switch next to each reader to indicate Wiegand or ABA. You may also have additional card readers by attaching one or two EMX 190 modules to the ACX 700. The card reader may have an LED, but does not have to. (UL listed systems must use model 30387 Sensor Engineering card readers.) Maximum data rate for the card reader—1 ms between bits with a 50 µs bit width. Maximum power available to each card reader is 35 mA at 5 VDC. If the card reader requires 12 ± 2 or 24 ± 2 VCD, it requires an external power supply. • Eight supervisory inputs (1 through 8) that you can use for any of the following types of inputs: — Door switch that indicates the status of the door—open or closed. Must have a 10 KΩ resistor in series if normally closed or in parallel if normally open. The resistor allows the input to detect tampering. Refer to the Infinity CX Programmer’s Guide for details. Required. — An exit request input, usually a motion sensor that determines someone is approaching the door or a push button that you must press to leave the area. Must have a 10 KΩ resistor in series if

normally closed or in parallel if normally open. The resistor allows the input to detect tampering. Refer to the Infinity CX Programmer’s Guide for details. Optional. — Two keypads, each a single input (inputs 9 and 10), that you place near the door as an alternative to a card reader. The person punches in an access code that the controller recognizes before allowing the person access. You may have up to two keypads and/or two card readers. Each keypad has eight connections. • One built-in tamper switch that indicates when the cabinet door has been forced open. The switch is actually a button that reacts when someone opens the cabinet door. You may also wire another switch to the input if you install the unit in another cabinet. When the switch is open, the cabinet tamper is ON.
Laying Out the Site Setup You may want to draw a map of where you plan to put each controller and store it in a notebook. Find the tag attached to each controller that gives the number of the controller. Before you remove any tags, be sure the tag has all of the following information on it: • Location of the controller. • Serial number. • Model name and number. • Communications port the Infinet connects to on the ACX 700 controller. Then collect the tags. You will need to know where your controllers are located when you later assign a name to each controller and each input and output.

Mounting Caution You must keep the ACX 700 in the UL listed enclosure provided or insert it in a UL listed enclosure. 1. Before you begin, if you have the enclosed unit, open the front door of the ACX 700 cabinet. Figure 1 shows the dimensions of the UL listed cabinet provided by Andover Controls and the location of the mounting screw holes. Figure 2 shows the dimensions of the open class UL listed unit and the dimensions of the backplate for mounting.

Figure 3 shows the dimensions of the ACX 700 with an EMX 190. When you attach modules, they must be enclosed in the same UL listed enclosure as the controller. For additional modules, you require a larger cabinet. You can find the exact dimensions of each module in the installation instructions included with that module.

Figure 4 shows the location of various parts inside the ACX 700, labeled on the cover plate. Note the parts of the controller labeled here. You may want to refer to this figure to locate parts during the installation process.
Connecting the AC Power Warning Be sure the AC power cable is not connected to an electrical power source while you are wiring the controller, or you could receive an electrical shock that is life-threatening. If you choose to use a 12 VDC UPS power supply, skip these instructions and go to the section called Connecting the UPS Power Supply. The AC power connection is in the upper left corner of the controller. You must wire the AC cable to the three screws on the far left.
Caution Be sure to connect all three wires, HOT, NEUTRAL, and GROUND. Otherwise, the controller could malfunction. The three screws are labeled GND, NEU, HOT. 1. Place the ground wire under the metal plate behind the screw labeled GND. 2. Tighten the screw with a flathead screw driver. Figure 5 shows the position of the plate, where to place the wire, and how the screw fits on the plate. You can see how the screw holds the plate in place once you tighten it.

Selecting the AC Input Voltage The voltage is set to 115 V when shipped. To change the voltage, you must reset the jumpers to the right of the AC power cord connection. Table 2 shows jumper settings for the three voltages.

2. Disconnect the jumper end from E2 and move it to E3 so it jumpers E4 to E3. 3. Leave the other jumper as it is. To change the voltage from 115 V to 230 V, proceed as follows: 1. Disconnect the jumper from E6 to E5 and remove it. 2. Disconnect the jumper from E5 and connect it to E2, so it jumpers E4 to E2. 3. Disconnect the jumper from E1 and connect it to E2, so it jumpers P1 to E2.
Connecting the UPS Power Supply If you choose to connect the controller to a UPS power supply, you may not also connect it to AC power.
Note Be sure to size the power supply to provide 1.6 A for each ACX 700 controller. If the supply also provides power to motion sensors, card readers, or other auxiliary devices, be sure to size the power supply accordingly. Wire the UPS power supply to the terminal block connector below the AC input labeled +12VDC INPUT. The connector is immediately to the left of the power indicator light labeled PWR ON. You wire the power supply as follows: 1. Slip the hot wire under the screw labeled + and tighten the screw down on the wire. 2. Slip the ground wire under the screw labeled – and tighten the screw down on the wire. Once the power supply is connected, the PWR ON light should light up.

Connecting the Power Indicating LED Caution If you purchased the ACX 700 enclosed in the Andover Controls cabinet, skip this section and proceed with the next section, Wiring the Infinet to the ACX 700. If you purchased the ACX 700 without the cabinet (open class), included with it is an LED that you can wire to the printed circuit board and mount on the front of the UL listed enclosure. This LED lights up to indicate that the unit is receiving power.
Mounting the LED If you had the cabinet provided by Andover Controls, you would see the LED on the front door of the cabinet, approximately 1--4- -in. (6 mm) to the left of and below the logo/product name. Figure 6 shows where the LED would be located. You should position the LED in an approximately equivalent location.

To mount the LED on the front of the UL enclosure for the open class controller, proceed as follows: 1. If you have an open class controller, drill a 3--8- -in. (9.5 mm) hole in the front of the enclosure for it. Drill the hole approximately in front of where the controller is labeled EXTERNAL LED on the cover plate. 2. Find the LED included with the controller. It should have two wires on the back end. Figure 7 shows the LED with the three nuts and one washer on it.

Now, you are ready to wire the LED to the controller.
Wiring the Power Indicating LED You wire the LED to the screws labeled +/– POWER LED as follows: 1. Slip the red wire for the sensor under the screw labeled + next to POWER LED and tighten the screw down on it. 2. Slip the black wire under the screw labeled – next to POWER LED and tighten the screw down on it.
Wiring the Infinet to the ACX 700 Note You must use shielded cables for Infinet to ensure compliance with the Class A FCC limits and to ensure reliable communications. Figure 9 illustrates how to wire the Infinet cable to the removable terminal block connector in the lower left corner of the ACX 700.

1. Trim back the shield over the wires. 2. Take the first wire for the incoming Infinet and the first wire for the outgoing Infinet and slip both in the hole beneath the screw labeled with a plus sign. 3. 4. Slip the second (usually black) wire from each Infinet cable under the screw labeled with a minus sign and tighten the screw down on them. 5. Slip the shields from the incoming and outgoing Infinet cables under the screw labeled SHLD and tighten the screw down on them.
Wiring the Infinet to the Infinity CX 9000 or 9200 You connect the last piece of Infinet cabling to the Infinity CX 9000 or 9200, as described below (refer to the illustration): 1. Open the front of the Infinity CX 9000 controller cabinet. Notice that to the left are three ports labeled COMM1, COMM2, and COMM3. Two RS-485 ports, one above the three comm ports and one below, are in the same area. Notice that the end of the Infinet cable has two wires and a shield. You wire them to the terminal block connector on the RS-485 port. Figure 10 illustrates how to wire the Infinet cable to the Infinity CX 9000 or 9200.

2. Run the cable through the knockout on the left side of the controller. 3. Select the port to wire the cable to—on a 9000, either the RS-485 port just above the three RS-232 ports (COMM2) or the RS-485 port just below the three RS-232 ports (COMM1). Once you use either of

these ports for COMM1 or COMM2, the RS-232 port for COMM1 or COMM2 is disabled. On a 9200, you can also select COMM4. 4. Trim back the shield over the wires. 5. Slip the first wire through the hole under the screw labeled +IN and jumper it to the screw labeled +OUT. 6. Tighten both screws to hold the wire there. 7. Slip the ground wire through the hole under the screw labeled –IN and jumper it to the screw labeled –OUT. 8. Tighten both screws to hold the wire there. 9. Slip the shield in under the middle screw labeled SHLD and tighten the screw to hold it there.

Wiring Inputs Caution Do not remotely ground any part of the sensor wiring. Remote grounds connected to the ACX 700 return terminal could make the controller operate incorrectly or damage the equipment. The signal return is not true earth ground. It is an electronic reference point necessary to interpret the sensor properly. Do not externally ground sensor or switch terminals that return to the ACX 700.
Caution Card readers require shielded wiring. Although two-wire inputs usually function properly with unshielded sensor wire, you may need shielded wire if you run the wire as follows: • In the same conduit with other noise-generating conductors such as 60 Hz AC power. • In long runs close to large power-consuming or power-generating equipment that can produce 60 Hz noise. We recommend you run input wiring in a conduit separate from AC power or output wiring and avoid long wiring runs. The “supervisory” inputs are on the upper left side of the ACX 700, just below the 12VDC UPS power connector. Input wires should enter from the left side. Notice that the inputs are labeled IN1, RET1, IN2, RET2, IN3, RET3, IN4, RET4, and so on, for up to eight inputs. The first return terminal goes to the first input, the second to the next input, and so on.

Caution Follow the rules below when wiring inputs and outputs: • Never lay wires across the surface of the printed circuit board. You should bring input wires in from the left and output wires in from the right. • Bundle excess wires toward the back of the cabinet to avoid any contact with circuit boards. • Wires should never be within 1 in. (25 mm) of any component on the printed circuit board. • Keep cabinet free of foreign materials (extra power supplies, relays, and so on). • Be careful when stripping wire not to drop small pieces of wire inside the cabinet. If you violate any of these rules, the controller could malfunction.

Supervisory Input Circuits All 700/780 controller series inputs are supervisory inputs. The following drawings depict the six types of supervisory inputs that exist—three normally closed and three normally open types. After the drawings, there is an explanation of which types are recommended for access control installations. Figure 11 shows the three types of normally closed supervisory inputs.

Wiring Door Switches You may wire up to two of the eight supervisory inputs to door switches. The maximum length wire you may use is 500 ft of #18 gauge wire (152 m of 1.0 mm2) or 200 ft of #22 gauge wire (60 m of 0.35 mm2). You wire the door switch as follows (switches may be either normally open or normally closed): 1. Slip the appropriate wire under the IN screw and tighten the screw down on it. Figure 13 shows the wiring diagram for the input if the door switch is an ordinary switch. This switch can detect either the switch position, or tampering if the switch has an open fault. If the switch is shorted, it appears closed.

Figure 14 shows the wiring diagram for the input if the door switch has a built-in series resistor. This switch can detect either the switch position, or tampering where the switch is shorted or grounded. We recommend this switch for situations requiring the greatest security.

Each switch requires a single parallel resistor to provide extra security should an intruder attempt to break in through the door by closing the contact. 2. Slip the ground wire under the RET screw that corresponds to the IN number and tighten the screw down on it. 3. Be sure you wire the 10 KΩ resistor in parallel as shown in each diagram. Figure 15 shows the how the door switch works if it is an ordinary switch (normally open). The switch remains open while the door is in a normal state (closed or not tampered with). If the switch detects the door is open or has been tampered with, it appears closed.

Wiring Motion Sensors/Exit Push Buttons You may wire up to two of the first four supervisory inputs to motion sensors or exit buttons. You wire them the same way you wire DoorSwitch inputs, only the motion sensor requires an external power supply of 12± 2 VDC or 24 ±2 VDC (UL listed under APHV). The maximum length wire you may use is 500 ft of #18 gauge wire (152 m of 1.0 mm2) or 200 ft of #22 gauge wire (60 m of 0.35 mm2). Be sure that when you wire the motion detector, it is correctly set up, as illustrated in the next figure.

Wiring Other Two-Wire Inputs Follow these steps to wire two-wire inputs: 1. Slip the first wire for the sensor under the screw labeled IN5 and tighten the screw down on it. 2. Slip the ground wire under the RET5 screw and tighten the screw down on them. 3. Repeat the steps for each pair of inputs. Figure 17 shows a counter wired to an input point.

Wiring Card Reader Inputs Be sure you wire all card readers with shielded wiring. The maximum length of wire you may use depends on the card reader brand name and the type of wiring/cable you use. Caution The power supply for the Proximity card reader must have the following specifications: • Be nonswitching and fully regulated. • Ripple must be less than 2 mV. • Size the output for the amperage plus 25%. The PR-10 or PR-12 draws 150 mA, the PR-20 or PR-22 draws 250 mA. We recommend you use a UL listed power supply.

Wiring Keypad Inputs You wire the keypads to the keypad inputs on the right side of the controller, near the middle. The maximum length of wire to the keypad is 200 ft of #22 gauge wire (152 m of 1.0 mm2) and 500 ft of #18 gauge wire (60 m of 0.35 mm2). Wire the keypad inputs to the input terminals marked C1, C2, C3, R1, R2, R3, R4 and RET as follows: 1. Slip the wire marked COL1 on the keypad under the screw marked C1 and tighten the screw down on it. 2. Slip the wire marked COL2 on the keypad under the screw marked C2 and tighten the screw down on it. 3. Repeat the previous step for COL3, connecting them to C3. 4. Slip the wire marked ROW1 on the keypad under the screw marked R1 and tighten the screw down on it. 5. Slip the wire marked ROW2 on the keypad under the screw marked R2 and tighten the screw down on it. 6. Repeat the previous step for ROW3 and ROW4, connecting them to R3 and R4. 7. Slip the shield under the screw marked RET and tighten the screw down on it. 8. Repeat the entire process for the second keypad. The remaining two wires for the Essex Keypad are connected as follows: 1. Connect the wire labeled 5VDC POWER (red) to the appropriate +5V Reader terminal. 2. Connect the wire labeled LED (white) to the appropriate LED Reader terminal.

Wiring Outputs The outputs are on the lower right side of the ACX 700, labeled DOOR1, DOOR2, and AUX. All output wires should enter from the right.
Wiring Door Outputs Wire the door and auxiliary outputs as follows: You wire the door outputs like any other Form C output, as follows: 1. Slip the appropriate wire under the NC screw and tighten the screw down on it. 2. Slip the appropriate wire under the C screw and tighten the screw down on it. 3. Slip the appropriate wire under the NO screw and tighten the screw down on it. 4. We recommend you install a metal oxide varistor (Andover part # 01-2020-095, purchased separately) across the door strike or lock being switched.

Caution If you are wiring an ACX 700 rather than an ACX 710, disregard the Modules Configuration Guide included with the unit and follow the guidelines that follow. You can install multiple expansion modules, along with the EMX 190s, on the ACX 700, as long as you comply with the following: • Never attach more than two modules of the same model to the controller. • Do not exceed the maximum total number of inputs or outputs allowed on the controller. The maximum number of inputs/outputs allowed on the ACX 700 is as follows: Outputs • Maximum Base Outputs (already on controller)—3 • Maximum Expansion Module Outputs—4 • Maximum Total Outputs—7 Inputs • Maximum Base Supervisory Inputs (already on controller)—8 • Maximum Expansion Module Inputs—21 • Maximum Total Inputs—29 If the modules, however, consume a total greater than 166 mA, you must add an external power supply (more later).

Caution Do not attach an output module, an input module, then another output module, as this later causes confusion when assigning input and output numbers.
Attach Modules in Order You should first attach all output modules, then all input modules.
Expansion Outputs Allowed Of the output modules available, you can have up to 4 expansion outputs on an ACX 700 controller.
Expansion Inputs Allowed Before you add any input modules to the ACX 700, the first 4 inputs you define are the supervisory inputs on the EMX 190s. Of the input modules you can attach, you can always have a maximum of two EMX 160s and one EMX 170s for 17 more expansion inputs; the first 4 plus the 17 is a total of 21 expansion inputs.
EMX 190 Modules EMX 190s must always be the first two expansion output modules on the chain.
Other Output Modules After the EMX 190s, you can have one more and only one output module with up to two outputs—and it can be any of the following: • EMX 150 • EMX 151 • EMX 155 • EMX 140—If you attach an EMX 141 or 143, you must count the one output as two when numbering the outputs.

First Input Modules EMX 160s (or other digital/counter input modules with up to 16 inputs between them) must always be the first two expansion input modules on the chain.
Place EMX 170 at End of Chain If you have an EMX 170 or expect to add one in the future, the EMX 170 must always be the last module on the entire chain.
Setting Board Switches on Modules You must always set the first module of a particular model number to Board 1. So, we strongly advise that you attach the modules of the same model number one immediately after the other. You must set the first output module on the chain to Board 1, the second to Board 2, the third to Board 1, the fourth to Board 2, and so on—no matter which model number modules. When you start the input modules, start at again Board 1 and continue to alternate from 1 to 2.
Wiring Power Supply for Modules After you have installed the modules, if you require an external power supply, refer to the Modules Configuration Guide for details regarding how much external power each module you attach requires. You must wire the power supply to ensure that the modules receive power at the same time that the controller does.

Powering Up the ACX 700 Warning Before powering up the controller, be sure the board is jumpered for the correct input voltage. Before you proceed, be sure the following are correct: 1. Be sure you have jumpered the proper input voltage. 2. Be sure the battery is connected. 3. Be sure the AC power or UPS 12 VDC power source is wired properly. For AC power, check to be sure all three wires have been connected. 4. Be sure the controller has a true earth ground. 5. Be sure you have used the proper cables/wires and the correct lengths. 6. Be sure you have properly labeled the tag with the name of the controller before removing the tag. 7. Be sure the Infinet cable has been properly wired. 8. Be sure the Infinet cable shields are properly connected. If you have completed all previous sections in this manual, you are now ready to power up the controller. Turn on the AC power source (or close the power connection) and the controller starts automatically. The following occurs (also occurs when you press RESET): 1. If the controller has been off, relays remain off. If you have pressed RESET, relays deenergize. 2. The CPU light begins flashing and flashes every.1 sec if all is normal. If the controller fails a ROM test, the CPU light flashes every .2 sec. If the controller fails a RAM test, the CPU light flashes

every .025 sec. If the controller fails any other software test, it flashes every .05 seconds. 3. The POWER LED on the front of the cabinet turns on and remains on as long as the unit is receiving power. 4. The TD light may not flash at this time. Once you have set up the Infinet controller in the software and assigned the controller an ID, the TD light immediately starts flashing to show data is being transmitted. 5. The RD light begins flashing only if data is being received from other controllers on the network. This may not happen immediately. 6. If any of the three outputs is not set to AUTO, the OVERRIDE light remains steadily on. 7. The EXTERNAL +24V light turns on and remains steadily on. When the EXTERNAL +24V light goes out, it means no power is being supplied to the expansion port. You may have to replace the fuse. See the Andover Controls Infinet Controller Troubleshooting Guide.
Reset Button The RESET button is the red square button to the left of the vertical center of the board. You press it to restart the controller without erasing memory. The same events occur as described above.
Connecting the Battery When you have the controller mounted, find the AA battery. Remove the plastic tab below the clip on the battery to activate the battery. The battery is an 1.8 A 3.5 V primary lithium battery that runs the realtime clock and maintains RAM when AC power goes out.

Connecting the Andover Controls Service Tool The SERVICE PORT on the left side of the bottom of the controller is to connect the Andover Controls Service Tool to an ACX 700. The service tool accesses all ACX 700s and other Infinet controllers on the same network. The ACX 700 is listed by Underwriters Laboratories, Inc. for standard UL 294, Access Control System Units, as a stand-alone unit. A UL listed system must be set up in one of the following ways: • The ACX 700 enclosed class controller board residing in the ACX 700 enclosure. OR • The ACX 700 open class controller residing in a listed enclosure, with or without one or two EMX 190 modules. See the section called Installing the ACX 700. You must install the controller and accessories in accordance with the UL requirements stated in this manual to have a UL listed access control system. Failure to install the access control system in accordance with the UL requirements listed in this manual is a violation of the listing mark of Underwriters Laboratories. EMX 190 modules are UL listed for use with the ACX 700 in access control systems. These modules are designed for use with the open class ACX 700 for access control. Each ACX 700 is limited to two EMX 190 modules. UL has examined the ACX 700 controller with Sensor Engineering card reader model 30387. For other accessories (door switches, door locks, etc.) and specific two-wire inputs you should use in UL listed systems, consult the UL listings. The exit push button and its wiring must be installed inside the secured area. UL has not examined the operation of the door switch input, lightning arrestors, keypad input, or the Andover Controls metal oxide varistor with the ACX 700. (For varistors you should use in UL listed systems, consult the UL listings.) UL has not examined connection and operation with the Infinet. For UL listed systems, all wires connected to the panel should be in dedicated, grounded conduit.

Locating the Card Type Jumpers Located inside the ACX 700 cabinet to the right of the Card Type Switches are two sets of 0 Ω resistor jumpers. These jumpers are correctly set for ABA or Wiegand card types when shipped. If you choose to change the card type from ABA to Wiegand or from Wiegand to ABA you must reset the jumpers. Figure B-1 shows the location of the card type jumpers.
