Adobe Acrobat Forms Plug-in Update Product Description Download the Acrobat Forms Plug-ins Acrobat Forms Brochure (PDF: 126 KB / 2 pages)
Q. What is Adobe Acrobat Forms Update? A. Adobe(R) Acrobat(R) 3.0 software currently has a forms feature. Adobe Acrobat Forms Update adds powerful new forms features to Portable Document Format (PDF) files. This makes it even faster and easier to exchange information either in familiar paper or electronic forms converted to PDF files with Acrobat 3.0, or as dynamic interactive database templates. Note that these plug-ins are not compatible with the Japanese version of Acrobat. Q. What are the plug-ins? A. Acrobat Forms Author and Acrobat Forms Fill-in. The Author plug-in allows Acrobat Exchange(R) users to create PDF forms that incorporate the new features. The Fill-in plug-in allows Acrobat Reader users to view and then print forms created by the Author plug-in.
Key Features The following is a brief highlight of Acrobat Forms Update features: JavaScript can be used for performing actions such as client-side field validation and calculations; it also allows greater format control and improved form intelligence. Export Forms allows users to save a form and its data to a local hard drive. This feature is only available in Acrobat 3.0 and Acrobat Exchange VPP software. Dynamic Page Templates allow the creator to specify a first, last, and any number of middle pages to support form applications such as database publishing and high-end printing of bills and other forms. Authoring Enhancements, such as the new layout grid, make it easier to align form fields. Other enhancements include support for multiple field selection and editing of field properties, which reduce creation and editing time.

Embedded PDF Graphics Support allows the user to embed PDF graphics within forms and then submit those graphics to a Web server. Send Acrobat Forms data to a database. Acrobat Forms work with Web servers via standard Web server CGI scripts. In fact, a PDF form can replace HTML forms with little or no change to existing scripts. If your Web server software can connect to your corporate database, you should be able to write CGI scripts that take form data and populate your database and vice versa. The Acrobat FDF Toolkit, which allows you to easily create and parse the Acrobat Forms Data Format (FDF), is available through Adobe Developer Relations on our Web site. It allows you to manipulate form information as a data tree, and extract and populate forms with graphical data. The FDF Toolkit comes as a C library with Perl and ActiveX(TM) wrappers on a variety of platforms.
Requirements Acrobat Forms Update requires Acrobat 3.01 or Acrobat Reader 3.01. Acrobat Reader 3.01 is available as a free download from Adobe's Web site. Registered Acrobat 3.0 users can receive a free upgrade to Acrobat 3.01 by calling 800-272-3623. Information on system requirements is also available.
Download the Update - It's Free! Both plug-ins are available for free download from Adobe's Web site. Make your forms follow function—in PDF Efficiently create and use PDF forms If you create and process forms—such as applications, order forms, or requests for information—Acrobat software can make your job much simpler. Use Acrobat software to gather information online by publishing forms in Adobe’s compact, cross-platform Portable Document Format (PDF). Anyone with the freely distributable Acrobat Reader software can fill out forms and submit them directly from the desktop. And now, the Acrobat Forms Plug-in Update makes it even faster and easier to exchange information: either in familiar paper forms converted to PDF or as dynamic, interactive database templates. Edit forms quickly and flexibly Once you’ve designed your forms and converted them to PDF with their original look and formatting intact (or scanned and converted paper documents using Acrobat Capture® software), the Acrobat Forms Author plug-in lets you enhance them with powerful new features. A layout grid helps you align fields. You can also select multiple form fields; edit their text size, color, and fonts; and cut and paste fields within and among documents. You can even embed PDF graphics within your forms, which is perfect for adding photographs to employee records or to insurance claims. Personalize publishing with dynamic form templates The Acrobat Forms Plug-in Update also acts as an interface to database systems, enabling you to create one-to-one marketing materials such
as direct-mail or database queries tailored just for your users. With new dynamic page templates, you can create forms that expand to accommodate variable amounts of input and deliver customized catalogs, brochures, and other publications generated on the fly directly to your users’ desktops. Make your forms more interactive The Acrobat Forms Plug-in Update makes it as easy and dynamic for users to complete your forms as it is for you to create them. The Update incorporates JavaScript,™ a powerful, lightweight scripting language for designing forms that instantly verify data, perform formatting, and make calculations as they are filled in. You can add features that detect users’ mouse activity to activate actions or display messages. Users can save complex forms such as tax documents and benefits applications to their hard drives to be completed, printed, or submitted later. Integrate PDF forms with your Web site and database systems Post your forms data in HTML or Acrobat Forms Data Format (FDF) on your intranet or Web site. The forms can be viewed with Netscape Navigator® and Microsoft® Internet Explorer. Because PDF forms work with existing standard Web server CGI scripts, you can easily substitute the HTML forms on your site with PDF forms. And with third-party database software and the FDF Toolkit (available through the Adobe Developers Association), you can link your PDF forms to your database systems.
Download the Update—it’s free! So if you need to collect HR forms data from co-workers over your intranet, allow your sales force to request and instantly access marketing materials, or let customers order products and access customized catalogs on the Web, get the Acrobat Forms Plug-in Update. You should have Acrobat 3.0 software to use with the Update
(refer to the Acrobat brochure or visit the Web address shown below for complete system requirements). The Update, the Forms Author plug-in for registered owners of Acrobat 3.0, and the Fill-in plug-in for users of Acrobat Reader are available for downloading from Adobe’s Web site at www.adobe.com/acrobat
