Panel Descriptions 1.1 Back Panel: The back panel of the Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router contains ADSL, Ethernet Switches, Power Adaptor connection and 2.4GHz Dipole Antenna Connector and Reset button. ADSL Port for connecting to the ADSL/ADSL2/ADSL2+ Service Provider. Ports 1~4 Four 10/100Mbps Ethernet Ports for connecting to the network devices. Power Power adapter connector. Antenna 2.4GHz dipole Antenna Reset button Restore the 4-port 11g wireless ADSL 2/2+ Router to factory default setting. ! All the Ethernet ports of the Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router support auto-crossover capability. RESET Button: ! Reboot & Restore the Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router to factory default. To “Reset” the Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router to factory default: n Ensure that the device is powered on. n Press the Reset button for 10~15 seconds and release. Wait for 30 seconds after release of the Reset button. Do not power off the device during the reset process. n The default settings are now restored. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 3 1.2 Front Panel: The Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router’s LED indicators display information about the device’s status. PWR Lights up when the 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router is powered on. Lights up when the Wireless system is ready. WL/ACT Blinking when the 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router is sending or receiving data. 1 2 3 4 Blinking when Port 1 of the 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router is sending or receiving data. Blinking when Port 2 of the 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router is sending or receiving data. Blinking when Port 3 of the 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router is sending or receiving data. Blinking when Port 4 of the 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router is sending or receiving data. Lights up when a successful ADSL2/2+ connection is established. ADSL Blinking when the 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router is sending or receiving data. PPP Lights up when a PPP connection is established. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 4 2. Connecting the Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 2.1 Connection Mechanism: This section describes the hardware connection mechanism of your Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router. Before you can establish an Internet or Wireless connection through your Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router, make sure you have the following: 1. A Computer/Notebook with an installed Ethernet Adaptor and an Ethernet Cable, OR 2. A Computer/Notebook with a Wireless-b or Wireless-g Wireless adaptor installed (For Wireless Access). 3. An ADSL service account and configuration information provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). You should need only a Username and Password, but you can check with your ISP to see if you require any of the other following configuration parameters to connect your Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router to the Internet: a. ISP Username and Password b. VPI/VCI parameters c. Multiplexing Method d. Host and Domain Names e. ISP Domain Name Server ( DNS ) Address f. Fixed or Static IP Address. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 5 2.2 Connection Steps: The following are the steps to properly connect your Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router: 1. Turn off your computer. 2. If you do not have an ADSL faceplate installed by your service provider, you must ensure ADSL splitters (also called microfilters or filters) are fitted to all telephone sockets in use. 3. Connect the supplied ADSL RJ-11 cable from the splitter/filter of your chosen telephone socket (or ADSL faceplate if you have one) to the ADSL Port of your Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router. 4. Connect the Ethernet cable (RJ-45) from one of the Ethernet ports of your Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router to the Network Adaptor in your computer. 5. Connect the Power adaptor to the Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router and plug the other end into a Power outlet. Power up the unit. The Power light will come on after turning on the Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ! ADSL2/2+ Router. Auto and self-diagnostic process will turn the LED indicators ON and OFF during power up. Use the Power Adaptor exclusively in combination with the equipment ! supplied and do not use any other kind of power adaptor for the equipment. 6. Turn on your computer. 7. Refer to the next chapter to setup or configure your system’s Network Adaptor. 8. Refer to Chapter 4 to configure your Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router. All the configuration/setting procedures described in this Quick Start Guide ! are run through RJ-45 Ethernet connection. For Wireless setting, please refer to the user manual on the CD for details. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 6 3. Setting up the TCP/IP Windows Me / 98 Step 1: Click Start→Settings→Control Panel. Step 4: Go to IP Address icon and select Obtain an IP address. Step 2: Double-click the Network icon. Step 5: Go to Gateway icon and erase all previous setting. Step 3: Go to Configuration icon, select network adapter installed and click Properties. Step 6: Go to DNS Configuration icon, select Disable DNS and click OK. 1 1 2 2 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 7 Windows 2000 Step 1: Click Start→Settings→Control Panel. Step 4: Select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. 1 2 Step 2: Double-click the Network and Dial-up Connections. Step 5: Select Obtain an IP address automatically and DNS server address automatically. Then, click OK. Step 3: Right Click the Local Area Connection and 1 select Properties. 2 1 3 2 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 8 Windows XP Step 1: Click Start→Control Panel→Classic View. Step 4: Go to General icon, select Internet Protocol (TCP/IP) and click Properties. 1 2 Step 2: Double-click the Network Connections. Step 5: Go to General icon, select Obtain an IP address automatically and DNS server address automatically. Then, click OK. Step 3: Right Click on the Local Area Connection and select Properties. 1 2 1 3 2 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 9 4. Setting up the Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 1. Launch your web browser, and enter the Etec 4 Port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router’s IP Address: “192.168.1.1” in the address field then press the “Enter” key. 2. Enter the default Username: “Admin” and Password: “Admin”. Then press “Log In” to login. NB. Username and Password are case sensitive. ! Note that the Username and Password are case sensitive. *If the Username and Password login box does not appear make sure that any firewall or anti-virus software such as Zone Alarm or Norton is disabled and try again 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 10 3. Log in takes you to the system HOME page with all the device information. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 11 4. Click on “Setup Wizard” and the following screen will pop-up. The Setup Wizard is a presetting wizard which is designed to help you install the Etec 4 Port ADSL2/2+ Router quickly and easily. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 12 1. From the Country drop-down list select the UK. If your Service Provider is not on the ISP drop-down list, select BT* and click Next. Note the “Encapsulation” type as PPPoA VC-Mux and “VPI & VCI” settings as 0/38. 2. Click “Next” to continue. 1 2 *Almost all ISPs in the UK use BT network settings which are ! PPPoA VC-Mux, VPI 0 and VCI 38. If you are unsure you can contact your Service Provider to confirm their configuration parameters. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 13 3. Enter your “Username” and “Password” exactly as provided by your Internet Service Provider (ISP). 3 4 4. Then Click on the “Apply” button. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 14 5. Click the “Refresh” button. 6. Check the “System Information”. The “DSL Status” and “DSL Speed” under “System Information” shows you the ADSL connection status and connection speed (Upstream/Downstream) in Kbps. 5 6 7. Launch your Internet web browser, and enter the Google Website Address: “www.google.com” in the address field then press “Enter”. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 15 8. The following Google website index page will display on your screen. This shows your ADSL connection is correctly set and access to the Internet is now available. 9. Once you are connected your can configure the wireless connection of your Etec 4 port 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router. (Wireless settings are normally configured automatically by your wireless client, usually USB, PCI or PC Card. The set-up of the wireless connection will vary depending on the manufacturer of your wireless client. Please contact your wireless client vendor if you are experiencing difficulties. For advanced wireless configuration for the router, please consult the manual on the CD provided.) Telephone Support for Internet Access ONLY is available during office hours from Mon-Fri 10am –5pm on 08712-461234. If you are successfully connected to the Internet and have a support or firmware* query please email [email protected]. * No firmware upgrade should be attempted without first contacting Etec at the above email address. Any such firmware upgrade attempt without first contacting Etec will invalidate the warranty. NOTE: For more detailed information regarding settings and connections, refer to the “User Manual” on the CD provided. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 16 1. Authentication Failed If you see under Connection Status that the status displayed is ‘Not Connected’, then it will also display a ‘Disconnect Reason’. If the disconnect reason is ‘Authentication Failed’, this is usually caused by the user entering the wrong username or password. We suggest you factory reset the device before you attempt to re-enter the username and password. To factory reset please note there is a reset button situated in between the power and Ethernet ports on the back of the device. While the device is powered on press the button and hold it for 15 seconds, and then release the button. When the reset button is released the device will restart itself with the original factory settings. Wait 30 seconds. Login to the Router via http://192.168.1.1 (default) Then follow the set-up wizard. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 17 2. DSL Line is Disconnected If the disconnect reason is ‘DSL Line is Disconnected’ it may be due to: 1. The ADSL cable is disconnected. 2. An ADSL line problem. 3. Microfilters not fitted in all telephone sockets, or a faulty microfilter. Please check that all connections and filters are secure and try again. NOTE: For more detailed information regarding settings and connections, refer to the “User Manual” on the CD provided. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 18 3. Troubleshooting the Connection 1. Check that the ADSL light on the front of the router has turned solid. This can take up to 1 minute after switching on. (If the ADSL light continues to flash then the router is not detecting an ADSL signal and you should contact your Service Provider immediately) 2. Ensure your username and password are correct – your username should read [email protected] (or something similar). 3. Ensure you have a filter attached to the master socket. 4. Check there are no phones connected to any extensions that do not have a filter. If you still can’t get a connection after checking the above – disconnect all phones, sky boxes, fax machines etc., double–check that all cables are correctly connected and filters properly attached, restart the router, and try again. If this still fails then we suggest you contact your Service Provider for further advice. 4 Ports 11g Wireless ADSL2/2+ Router 19
