Do not remove warning label from bed. • Always use the recommended size mattress or mattress support, or both, to help prevent the likelihood of entrapment or falls. • Surface of mattress must be at least 5” (127 mm) below the upper edge of guardrails. • Do not allow children under 6 years of age to use the upper bunk. • Periodically check and ensure that the guardrail, ladder and other components are in their proper position, free from damage, and that all connectors are tight. • Do not allow horseplay on or under the bed and prohibit jumping on the bed. • Always use the ladder for entering and leaving the upper bunk. • Do not use substitute parts. Contact the manufacturer or dealer for replacement parts. • Use of a night light may provide added safety precaution for a child using the upper bunk. • Always use guardrails o n both long sides of the upper bunk. NOTE: Please follow the instructions carefully to insure a s a f e and sturdy bed. Do n o t f u l l y t i g h t e n t h e b o l t s u n t i l a l l r a i l s and guardrails are attached. 1. Unpack the unit and confirm that you have all hardware and parts required. 2. Insert two Barrel Nuts (part 7) into each end of the Mattress Side Rail (part C). Be sure that the long slot on the Barrel Nut is f acing out and that the long groove is parallel to the Rail towards the end of the Side Rail. 3. Bolt the Mattress Side Rail (part C) to the Upper Headboard (part BH); by inserting two 4 1/4” Red Bolts (part 1) through the bottom two hol es Please call for replacement part s or assistance: 1-866-942-5362 Whalen Furniture Mfg. Inc. Factory No. 43-11696 Page # 7 in the post of the Headboard and into the Barrel Nut (part 7) in the Mattress Side Rail (part C). Slat support must face in. as shown in detail # 1. Screw in only part way using the Al len Wrench provided. 4. S e e d e t a i l # 1 . 5. Repeat steps 2 through 4 to attach the Mattress Side Rail (part C) and 75” G u a r d R a i l s (part E) to the Upper Footboard (part BF). 6. Screw in each end of the slats using the 1” Wood Screw (part 9) through the pre-drilled holes in the slat. As shown in detail #2. Mount the Front Guard Rail Post (part I) to the front facing side of the Ladder Side Rail (part CL) with two 1 1/2" Yellow Bolts (part 3) through the front hole into the insert nuts on the Side Rail. Now attach two 57 3/4” Guard Rails (part J) from the Front Guard Rail Post (part I) to the Upper Headboard (part BH) using the 3 7/8” Blue Bolts (part 2) and Barrel Nuts (part 7). Attach the Futon Front and Back Rail (part D & D1) to the Lower Headboard and Footboard (parts AH & AF); Using the 4 1/4” Red Bolts (part 1) and Barrel Nuts (part 7). See detail #5. Repeat last step to attach the Futon Left Mechanism (part ML) to the Lower Footboard (part AF). Inc. Factory No. 43-11696 Page # 13 Mechanism into the thr eaded inserts on the side of Seat Frame. Now secure Futon Seat Frame to the Mechanism with two 3/ 4" Bolts, Lock Washers and Flat Washers (part 4, 5 & 6) from bottom of Right Mechanism. As shown in detail #7. 15. Repeat the procedure to the Futon Left Mechanism (part ML). Inc. Factory No. 43-11696 Page # 14 1 6 . In the same manner, attach the Futon Back Frame (part GB) to the other end of both Metal Mechanisms (part ML & MR). It can be easy assembled by rot ating Back Frame at sofa style position when you attach Back Frame to Mechanisms from bottom. As shown in detail #8. Inc. Factory No. 43-11696 Page # 15 CONNECTING BUNK BED 1 7 . Insert four Steel Connector Pins (part L) into holes of lower bunk posts; pins should extend 2" above post. With the help of a friend place top bunk over pins and onto lower bunk. See detail #9. Attach in the Ladder Hook (part 8) using two 3/4” Wood Screws (part 10) into the pr e-drilled holes on the top of each Ladder Support (part KL & KR). See detail #10. 19. Proceed to screw Ladder Steps (part KS) to the Left Ladder Support (part KL) using the 1 1/2” Yellow Bolts (part 3). As shown in detail #10A. 20. Repeat last step with Right Ladder Support (part KR). Hook the Ladder securely over the top of the Ladder Side Rail (part CL), between the Upper Guardrail Post (part I) and Upper Footboard (part BF) in the opening provided. 22. Proceed to screw the Hook to the Side Rail using two 3/4” Wood Screws (part 10) through the hole in t he ladder hook from inside. As shown in detail #11. ONLY USE LADDER IN THIS LOCATION AND SECURE WITH 2 SCREWS. PLEASE MAKE SURE YOU INSTALL THE LADDER AGAINTS THE GUARD RAIL POST. Be sure that you attach four Floor Protectors (part 11) onto each bottom of post of parts BH & BF when form the Twin Bed. Guard Rails are not necessary. 23. Attach the Mattress Side Rail (part C) and Ladder Side Rail (part CL) to the Upper H e a d b o a r d a n d F o o t b o a r d ( p a r t s B H & BF); using the 4 1/4” Red Bolts (part 1) and Barrel Nuts (part 7).
